Mae Jeanette Young
Mae Jeanette Young, 79, of Memphis, TN, died January 25, 2004 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
She was a retired sales person for C.E. Thompson Lumber Co. of Memphis, a member of Gracewood Baptist Church of Memphis, and she was married for 50 years to her husband, Shelby Young.
Survivors include her husband, Shelby M. Young of Memphis; one son, Mike Layman of Jonesboro; one daughter, Nanette Stanchak of Harrisburg; two sisters, Jimmye Brotbeck of Chattanooga, TN and Barbara Ann Whitmire of Hoxie; three brothers, John "Buddy" Barnett of Collierville, TN, Bill Barnett of Marked Tree, and Rev. Bobby Joe Barnett of Bradford, RI; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 28 at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel.
Rev. Bobby Joe Barnett will be officiating.
Burial will follow at the Marked Tree Cemetery under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home of Marked Tree.
Active pallbearers will be John Michael Layman, Christopher Layman, Bob Whitmire, Jim Brotbeck, Greg Barnett, and Mitchell Layman.

Carrie Lewis
Carrie Lewis, 101, of Luxora died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at her home.
Born at Lake Village, she was a retired factory worker and a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Burdette.
Survivors include one stepson, Leroy Moreland Sr. of Chicago, Illinois; one nephew, Ben Clark Jr. of Luxora.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan 24 at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Burdette, with the Rev. John Baker officiating.
Burial followed in Sandy Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola.
John Franklin Elrod Sr
John Franklin Elrod Sr., 71, of Marked Tree died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Osceola.
He was a chef and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Trenthem of Horn Lake, Miss.; three sons, John Elrod Jr. of Houston, Texas, and Ronnie Hillegas and John Hillegas, both of Bassett; one sister, Billie Arechiga of Dallas; three brothers, Hobson Elrod Jr. and David Elrod, both of Bassett, and Lindey Elrod of Dallas; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Feb 8 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola, with the Rev. Edwards L. James officiating.
Burial followed in Mississippi Memorial Gardens at Osceola.
Mitchell Cummins Busby
Mitchell Cummins Busby, 82, of Trumann, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 at Regional Medical Center of NEA.
Mr. Busby was born in Lepanto, AR and had lived in the Trumann and Marked Tree area most of his lifetime.
He was a grain elevator operator for E. Ritter & Company and of the Church of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ernestine Busby in 1987, one son, Larry Busby in 2000, one granddaughter, two brothers; one sister; and his parents, the late Lum and Rebecca Lynn Busby.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann with the Revs. Patrick Tucker and Don Simmons officiating.
Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery at Jonesboro.
Pallbearers were John Avery, Joe Catwell, Robert Erway, Bobby Ward, Harry Ward and Jimmy Ward.
Alton Darty Sr.
Alton Darty Sr., 67, of Osceola died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at his residence.
Born at Nauvoo, Ala., he was a retired farmer and a member of Etowah Pentecostal Church of God.
Survivors include four daughters, Cathy Moore of Gosnell, Barbara Yancy and Phillis Towery, both of Osceola, and Alva Lee Lang of Hardy; one son, Alton Darty Jr. of Osceola; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leola Banton.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan 15 at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola, with Huey Meherg officiating.
Burial followed in Garden Point Cemetery at Etowah.
Jerry Lane Darby Sr.
Jerry Lane Darby Sr., 59, of Osceola died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at Osceola Healthcare.
Born in Hope, Miss., he was a retired truck driver and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Kouch Darby; two daughters, Karen Simmerson of Marion and Sharon Darby of West Memphis; four sons, Jerry Darby Jr. of West Memphis, Patrick Darby of Marion, Wayne Darby of Des Moines, Iowa, and Thomas Darby of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Lillie Mae Daniels and Marty Anglin, both of Bryant, and Louise Thomas of Proctor; a brother, Willie David Darby of West Memphis; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola, with J.E. Elliott officiating.
Burial followed in Crittenden Memorial Park at Marion.
Odell Knighten Sr
Odell Knighten Sr., 67, of Osceola died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004 at St. Bernard's Medical Center.
A retired employee of Osceola Products, he was a member of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Beal Knighten; six sons, Odell Knighten Jr. of Caruthersville, Mo., and Curtis Knighten, Jessie Knighten, William Beal, Gregory Rose and John Beal, all of Osceola; six daughters, Sharon Garrett of Independence, Mo., Carissa Hitchyel of Kansas City, Mo., Carolyn Knighten of Muskogee, Mich., and Eloise McLaurin, Carolyn Tucker and Paulee Beal, all of Osceola; one brother, Charlie Knighten of Chicago; two sisters, Ophelia Anderson of Chicago and Essie Long of Osceola; a number of grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan 17 at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Osceola, with Willie Beal officiating.
Burial followed in Whiteside Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home of Osceola.
