Rodney Powell
Shelley Rodney Powell, age 75, of Stamps, Arkansas died Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at the Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. He was born March 28, 1928 in Texarkana, Arkansas.
Mr. Powell was retired from the Pipefitters' Local 597, Chicago, Illinois, a Master Mason, fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge #121, a fifty year member of The Scottish Rite and a fifty year member of The Shriners.
He is survived by: one sister, Norma Powell Lang of Mandeville, LA; brother-in-law, Pat Nation of Minden, LA; a host of nieces and nephews; very special friend, Allean Norris of Stamps, AR.
Masonic graveside services were held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 3, 2003 at the Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps with the Rev. Dana Casey officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Maxine W. Jones
Maxine W. Jones, age 82, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. She was born November 28, 1920 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker.
She is survived by: her husband, Casey Jones of Lewisville; one son, Russell Jones of Lewisville; one daughter, Pat Webb of El Dorado, AR; one brother, Marvin Wheelington of Oak Grove, LA; three grandchildren and numerous nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2003 at The Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with the Rev. Russell Bailey and Rev. Jesse Beene officiating and burial in the Wilson Cemetery at Lewisville under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Hugh Jefferson Stone
Hugh Jefferson Stone, age 93, of Shreveport, Louisiana died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at the Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport. He was born September 21, 1910 in Texas. Mr. Stone was a retired rancher from Caddo Parish, LA.
He is survived by: his wife, Winnie Stone of Shreveport, LA; two sisters, Naomi Stampsley of Shreveport and Bonnie Allen of Bradley, AR; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2003 at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley, Arkansas with the Rev. Burkhalter officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.
Hazel Marcum
Hazel Alene Marcum, 78, of Ola died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001.
She was born April 7, 1922, in Plainview, to B.A. and Ola Breashears Leach. She retired from teaching school after 42 years in the Ola, Plainview, and Birta school districts, where she taught fourth- grade. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teacher’s Association of Yell County and a member of the Ola First Baptist Church, where she was the pianist. She was the widow of J.W. Marcum.
Survivors include one daughter, Jan Barnes of Ola; three sisters, Imogene Bridges of Plainview and Ernestine Barry and Martha Jones, both of Morrilton, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Ola First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Balentine officiating. Burial was at Sandlin Ceme-tery in Ola.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ola First Baptist Church in memory of Hazel Marcum.
Arrangements were by Cornwell Funeral Home, Danville.
Gladys Owens
Gladys Marie McKinney Owens, 84, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001.
She was born Nov. 11, 1916, near Batesville, the daughter of William “Ed” McKinney and Mary Horick McKinney Myers.
She was a graduate of the Baptist State Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in Morrilton as a school nurse and as a registered nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She was a nursing supervisor at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, where she retired after 21 years of service.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Park Hill Christian Church. She was a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Shepard’s Center. She was a volunteer for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Central Arkansas, Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Brenner of Harrisonburg, Va., and Julia Kathryn Dennis, of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Kenneth W. McKinney of Moran, Texas; one grandson, two step granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and one great-step granddaughter.
Funeral services were Monday, 1 p.m., at the Park Hill Christian Church with the Rev. Miles Cook and Dr. James Farmer officiating. Interment followed at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Pallbearers included members of the men’s Sunday School class of Park Hill Christian Church, Richard Steed and Dwight Steed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Park Hill Christian Church in North Little Rock or to your favorite charity.
Addie Young
Addie Young, 90, of Plainview died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001.
A daughter of the late James Tillie and Emma French Morrow, she was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Cross County. She was the widow of Hugh Young and a member of the Church of Christ in Aplin.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Young of Plainview and Stanley Lee Young of Columbia, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday at Aplin Church of Christ with Bob Fallen officiating. Burial was in Nimrod Cemetery at Nimrod by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.
William Cook
William Wayne Cook, 82, of Morrilton died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001.
He was born on April 16, 1918, in Conway County, a son of Birdie L. and Ellen Brewer Cook. Mr. Cook was the widower of Georgia Jean Taylor Cook, a retired meat cutter and a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Rose City, North Little Rock.
Survivors include two sisters, Sybil Gilmore of Plumerville and Mary Taylor of Augusta.
Funeral services were Thursday at Rhodes and Son Chapel in Augusta, with Elder Bill Hall Sr. officiating. Burial was at Augusta Memorial Park by Rhodes and Son Funeral Home.
Margaret Long
Margaret Suzane Long, 68, of Little Rock died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001.
A member of the Church of Christ, Mrs. Long was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred C. Long Jr.; three sons, Keith Burris of Morrilton, and Floyd Burris and Lloyd Burris, both of Conway; two daughters, Karen Dunn of Russellville and Mary Jane Riddling; a sister, Mary Pratt of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Elmo and Eugene Pratt, both of Tulsa; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the chapel of Griffin, Leggett, Healey and Roth, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock. The Rev. Wayne E. Pratt will officiate, with burial following in Pinecrest Mausoleum.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
