Danny Freeman

Danny Lee Freeman, 32, died Sunday, April 22 at Baptist Hospital in Forrest City.

He is survived by his mother, Merdene Freeman of Marianna; his grandmother, Neoma Woodson of Marianna; eight brothers, Willie, Andrew and Tommie Freeman, all of Little Rock, Fritz Turner of Chicago, Charles, Calvin and Darryl Freeman, all of Marianna and James Freeman of Conway; four sisters, Dorothy Bledsoe and Renee Walker of Little Rock and Shirley Jones and Gloria Massey of Marianna.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Lee High School with Bishop Michael Thomas officiating. Burial was in Marianna Memorial Park.

Marianna Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. E.R. Gaines

Rev. Earnest Robert Gaines, 95, died Thursday, April 19.

He is survived by one daughter, Ernesia Gaines Eggerson; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Walnut Grove M.B. Church with Rev. Lee E. Eggerson II officiating. Burial was in Sequell Cemetery.

Hightower and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Larry Anderson

Larry "Dickie" Anderson, 57, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

He was a farmer.

He is survived by a son, Michael Anderson of Marianna; his mother, Juanita Holland of Marianna; his father, Ralph Anderson of Orange, Calif.; two brothers, Jerry Anderson and Roger Anderson, both of Marianna; and two sisters, Linda Blair and Teresa Boswell, both of West Memphis.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4 at Roller Citizens Chapel in Marianna with The Rev. Joe Caples officiating. Burial was in Marianna Memorial Park.

Roller Citizens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Pentecost

Joyce Lynn 'BoBo' Bradley Pentecost, 39, of Forrest City, died Thursday, May 3, 2001.

She lived in Marianna most of her life.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie Wayne Pentecost; one son, Colten Bradley Pentecost of the home; one daughter, Jordan DeSha Pentecost of the home; her father and step-mother, Charles and Lois Bradley of Marianna; and one brother, Wendell Bradley of Forrest City.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at the First Baptist Church in Forrest City. Burial was in the Upper Cemetery in Brinkley.

Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Bossier, 2810 Texas St., Bossier City, La. 71111-3799, or to Calvary Christian School, 1611 N. Washington in Forrest City.

Marzella Rallings

Marzella Rallings, 84, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at Davis Life Care Center in Pine Bluff.

She is survived by two sons, Woody Rallings, Jr. and James Edward Rallings, both of Chicago; five daughters, Bernice McMillian, Erma Jean Smith, Irma Langston and Kathryn Jackson, all of Chicago; and Eunice Brooks of Pine Bluff; one brother, Curtis Haskins of Wilmot; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Rallings, Sr.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff with Rev. G. H. Hall officiating. Burial was in Peter's Chapel Cemetery in Council.

Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff was in charge of arrangements.

Martha Stewart

Martha Jean Stewart, 68, died Saturday, May 5, 2001 in West Memphis.

She is survived by four sons, David Stewart of Proctor, Curt Stewart of Oakland, Calif, James Stewart of Marianna, and Wilburn Stewart of Little Rock; seven sisters, Katie Harris of Florida, Susie Banks and Christine Vincent, both of Renton, Wash, Geardine Rucker of Modesto, Calif., Polly Moore of Newark, Calif., Hattie Little of Alton, Ill. and Marie Coleman of Birmingham, Ala.; two brothers, Tommy Harris and Bobby Harris, both of Marianna; and one grandchild.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 13 at Kingdom Hall. Burial was in Pilgrim Cemetery.

J.E. Kennedy Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Janie Jordan

Janie Gist Jordan, 97, died Sunday, April 29, 2001 in Chicago.

She was preceded in death by eight of her 12 children.

She is survived by three daughters, Bettye Griggs of St. Louis, Mo., Lois Tim and Clara Cox of Chicago; one son, Rev. W.H. Howard of Rondo; her granddaughter whom she raised as a daughter, Geraldine Vinson of Chicago; 42 grandchildren a host of great and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at Sequell M.B. Church in Rondo with Rev. S.L. George officiating. Burial was in Friendship M.B. Church.

Marianna Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Justin Diggs

Justin Bene' Diggs, 19, died Friday, April 27, 2001 at the Med in Memphis.

He is survived by his parents, Archie and Brenda Diggs; four brothers, Myron Everett of Columbus, Ohio, Ian Everett, Brandon Diggs and Ryan Diggs of Memphis; two sisters, Kenia and Keisha Diggs of Memphis; and his grandparents, Eddie and Lorie Roquemore of Columbus.

Services were held at 12 noon Saturday, May 5 at Greater Love Ministries in Southaven, Miss. with Rev. Sam E. Blount officiating. Burial was in New Park Cemetery in Memphis.

Marianna Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Brooks Jones

Brooks W. Jones, 82, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

He was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Marion "Sugar" Jones of Marianna; a son, Bobby Jones of Collierville, Tenn.; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Marianna Memorial Park with the Rev. Bennie Harmon officiating.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Katy Wilson

Annie Arcade "Katy" Wilson, 75, died Friday, May 11, 2001 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Wilson; a daughter, Mary Dean Dozier of Marianna; a son Spann Wilson of Fayetteville; two brothers, Dale Shumpert of Fulton, Miss. and Haskell Shumpert of Nettleton, Miss.; and two granddaughters.

She was preceeded in death by a brother, Neat Shumpert.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 at Marianna United Methodist Church with Rev. Bennie Harmon officiating. Burial was in Marianna Memorial Park.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Frisby

Elizabeth Lee "Morris" Frisby, 42, of Longbeach, Miss., formerly of Marianna, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans, La.

She is survived by her husband, C.C. Frisby; two daughters, Teresa Carnes and Olivia Frisby of Longbeach; two sons, Michael Carnes and Caleb Frisby of Longbeach; her mother, Betty Morris of Marianna; one sister, Amy Davis of Marianna; and two brothers, James Morris of El Campo, Texas and Robert Morris of Cabot.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lee Morris and her brother, Bert Morris.

Services were held Saturday, May 12 at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Gulfport, Miss.

Bessie Traylor

Bessie Estelle Traylor, 91, died Sturday, May 12, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

She is survived by five sons, Dr. M.M. Traylor of Helena, Wayne Traylor of Moro, Carlus Traylor and Clyde Traylor, both of Clarksville and Dwight Traylor of Moro; a daughter, Shirley Bickerstaff of Moro; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Traylor and a son, Robert "Bob" Traylor.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 14 at Moro Pentecostal Church with Rev. Rick Needham officiating. Burial was in Marianna Memorial Park.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Moro Pentecostal Church, 1803 Hwy. 261, Moro, AR 72368.

Bernice Harris

Bernice Harris, age 71, of Brickeys, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Harris and Ricky Harris, both of Brickeys; two daughters, Brenda Gray of Memphis and Nancy Davis of Forrest City; her mother, Myrtle Alldredge of Memphis; four sisters, Mary Carruth, Debbie Soloman and Barbara Ann Callaway, all of Little Rock, and Pat Fortune of Memphis.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Roller-Citizens Chapel with Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. Burial was in Marianna Memorial Park.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. David Neal

Rev. David Lee Neal, 52, died Saturday, May 12, 2001.

He was the pastor of Rising Son M.B. Church of Hughes and Summerville M.B. Church in Forrest City.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Neal; three sisters, Jessie Williams of Minneapolis, Minn., Wanda Neal of Pine Bluff, and Floral Henderson of Battle Creek, Mich.; and one brother, Herman Neal of Brinkley.

A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18 at Marianna Funeral Home. Services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, May 19 at the Hughes High School gymnasium with Rev. Terry Williams officiating. Burial will be at Pilgrim Cemetery.

Mamie Walter

Mamie Walter, 53, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.

She is survived by her Aunt Theressa Ramey who raised her; her step-mother, Lillian Walter of Marianna; two sisters, Laura Steward of Forrest City and Helen Dickey of Little Rock; seven brothers, Johnny and Frederick of Marianna; James, Don, and Clifford of Little Rock, Clarence of Lakeland Fla. and Clyde of Irving, Texas.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruthie and Naomia.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19 at Mt. City M.B. Church in Felton with Rev. Kenneth Perkins officiating. Burial was in Gill Cemetery.

Hightower and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrengements.

Mary Graves

Mary Jewel Walters Graves, 63, of Little Rock, died Monday, May 21, 2001.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at New Hope Baptist Church in Moro. Visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 25.

Arrangements are by Will Acklin of Little Rock.

Fleta Mae Hayes

Fleta Mae Hayes, 80, a former resident of Marianna, died Monday, July 2, 2001 in Fort Smith.

She is survived by a daughter, Janis Hayes Porterfield of Hope; a son, Cody Hayes of Fort Smith; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross A. Hayes.

Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 3 at Roebuck Chapel of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith. Burial was in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

Edwards Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th St., Fort Smith, AR 72901; Methodist Village, 7811 Euper Lane, Fort Smith, AR 72903; or Reynolds Cancer Support House, 3324 S. "M" St. in Fort Smith.

John Holloway

John Calvin Holloway, 76, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis.

He served his country during WWII as a U.S. Army sergeant. During his military service he received a Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, AP Theater Ribbon and Three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife, Phillis Veneal Wallace Holloway of Aubrey; four sons, John C. Holloway, Jr., and Sherman Holloway, both of Aubrey, Tommy Holloway of Eudora, Kansas and Geral Holloway of Booneville; two daughters, Vivian Atchison of Aubrey and Jan Taylor of Magazine; one brother, Edgar Holloway of West Memphis; four sisters, Hazel Cullum of LaGrange, Eloise Hollnad of Mountain Home, Christine Jolly of Cabot and Virginia Lawson of Wheatley; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchidren.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6 at Spring Creek Cemetery.

Bob Neal and Sons Brickell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William Ripper

William Thomas Ripper, 63, or North Little Rock, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001.

He was born in Marianna and was a retired Master Sergeant from the Arkansas Army National Guard with 30 years service.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Ripper of Senatobia, Miss.; his wife, Rose Ripper of North Little Rock; a son, Ricky Ripper of North Little Rock; four daughters, Daren Henrichs of Cabot, Donna Ripper of North Little Rock, Debbie Nichols of Harrah, Okla. and Pam Burden of Poteau, Okla.; two sisters, Rosemary Harper of Senatobia, Miss. and Fay Lyons of Judsonia; one brother, Lee Ripper of Kensett; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Corneth Cemetery in Sheridan.

North Little Rock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
