Verna Mae Bailiff Nix
Verna Mae Bailiff Nix, age 91, of Stamps, Arkansas died Thursday, January 1, 2004 at the Magnolia Hospital. She was born August 11, 1912 in Jamestown, Louisiana.
Mrs. Nix was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Nix in 1977.
She is survived by: one son & daughter-in-law, Jimmy & Mary Nix of Gentry, AR; one daughter & son-in-law, Harvey & Ruth Taylor of Stamps; two granddaughters, Carala Castor of Gentry and Ginger & Robert Russell of Stamps; five great-grandsons, Rodney Castor of Mena, AR, Chad Castor of Gentry, Drew Russell, Garrett Russell and Aaron Russell, all of Stamps; several nieces and nephews; special friend and caregiver, Edna McDonald of Stamps.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Bro. W.D. Smith and Rev. William Willis officiating and burial in Lakeside Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Thomas Tolliver "Tollie" Taylor
Thomas Tolliver "Tollie" Taylor, age 88, of Rosston, Arkansas died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 in Kermit, Texas. He was born February 3, 1915 in Nevada County, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenn Richardson in September 1984, and by two sons, Horace Taylor & D.T. Taylor.
Survivors include: one daughter, Patsy Davis & husband Bobby of Kermit, TX; one son, Gary Taylor of Rosston; two sisters, Geneva Thompson of North Richland Hill, TX and Margie Smith of Arkansas; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2004 at The Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with the Rev. Johnnie Carlton officiating and burial in the Union Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps, AR.
Dorotha L. Galloway
Mrs. Dorotha L. Galloway, age 87, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2003 in a Hope, Arkansas hospital. Mrs. Galloway was born December 4, 1916 in Spokane, Washington to Henry A. and Mary Newell Miles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arliss Galloway. She was a retired Civil Service employee at the Tinker Air Force Base and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stamps, Arkansas.
Survivors include: one sister-in-law, Mildred Galloway of Hope; one brother-in-law, Doyle Galloway of Georgetown, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 am on Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Harmony Cemetery near Sutton with the Rev. Mike Turner officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Cremolia Turner
Mrs. Cremolia Turner, age 56, of Stamps, Arkansas died Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at her residence. She was born May 9, 1947 at Taylor, Arkansas. She was an employee of Homestead Manor Nursing Center and a member of St. Jonah Baptist Church.
She is survived by: one son, Terry D. Turner of Stamps; one daughter, Angela D. Turner of Stamps; one sister, Beatrice Scott of Bossier City, LA; two brothers, Andrew Warren of Taylor, AR and J.C. Warren of Stamps; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Smith Chapel in Stamps with Rev. Frankie Ward officiating and burial in Blackmon Cemetery in Taylor under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Bessie Mae Tarlton
Bessie Mae Tarlton, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana. She was born August 16, 1920 in Lewisville, Arkansas to Burba and Marry Ross redmon. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Stamps, Arkansas.
Survivors include: her husband, Dewitt Tarlton of Lewisville; one son, Paul and wife Jackie Tarlton of Magnolia, AR; two sisters, Emma Taylor of Texarkana, TX and Sarah Crowder of Camden, AR; three grandchildren, Ashlee Renne Tarlton, Jodi White, and Josh Watkins; one great grandson, Jordon Watkins.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at 2:00 pm at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Lewisville with the Rev. Mike Turner officiating and burial in the Wilson Cemetery in Lewisville.
Elizabeth Williams
Elizabeth Williams, age 80, of Texarkana, Texas died Friday, December 19, 2003 at a Texarkana nursing home. She was born August 24, 1923 in Idabel, Oklahoma to Jaohn & Ellen Williams.
Survivors include: one son, Charles Carnell, JR. of Texarkana, AR; three sisters, Mary Williams of Stamps, AR, Addie Smith & Annie Lynn, both of Bossier City, LA; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 with Rev. Milton Glover officiating and burial in the Union Hill Cemetery in Canfield, AR under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Jewel Dean Nolte
Jewel Dean Nolte, age 60, died Thursday, December 18, 2003 in a Shreveport, Louisiana hospital. Mrs. Nolte was born August 9, 1943 in Benton, Louisiana to C.E. and Callie Young. She was a homemaker and a member of the Forest Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her husband, Cecil Nolte of Taylor, AR; one daughter, Vickie Lynn Spruell of Bradley, AR; two brothers, Dan Young of Shreveport and Earl Young of Longview, TX; three sisters, Earlene young of Lafayette, LA, Cleo Merritt of Springhill, LA and Jackie Dillon of Sarepta, LA; ten grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and numerous family members.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the Forest Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jewell Duncan officiating and burial in the Forest Grove Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.

Velia Mae "Nanny" Castleman, age 71, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. She was born September 19, 1932 in Magnolia, Arkansas. Mrs. Castleman was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of North Lewisville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Clint Castleman.
Survivors include: four adopted daughters, Melinda Lester & Mary Richards, both of Lewisville, Glenda Nichols of Springhill, LA and Judy Goodner of Stamps, AR; three adopted sons, Milton Castleman of Lewisville, Bo Castleman of Texarkana, TX and Roy Burdine of McKinney, TX; twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.
