Almer Curtis Houck

Almer Curtis Houck, age 90, of Taylor, Arkansas died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Magnolia Hospital. He was born December 31, 1913 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. Mr. Houck was a retired farmer and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Lillia Martin Houck and by twelve brothers and sisters.

He is survived by: three sons, C.A. Houck & wife Linda of Monroe, LA, Wayne Houck & wife Jane of Ashdown, AR, and Eugene Houck & wife Donna of Lula, OK; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews, including "Special Niece" Sue Weems.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 27, 2004 at the Beacon Baptist Church at Bussey, Arkansas with Bro. Cleo Paul officiating and burial in the Sharman Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.

Mark Byrd

Mark Byrd, age 42, of Stephens, Arkansas, formerly of Stamps, Arkansas died early Wednesday morning, May 12, 2004 at his residence. He was born January 21, 1962 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Byrd was a member of The Church of Christ and was employed by PLS Associates of Magnolia, Arkansas.

He is survived by: his parents, Truman & Velta Byrd of Stamps; one son, Randy Byrd of Magnolia; two daughters, Kristen & David Reeves of Waldo, AR and Misty Byrd of Magnolia; sister & brother-in-law, Connie & Lacy Rogers of Stamps; one niece and one nephew; a host of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 16, 2004 at The Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Bro. Jay Launius and Bro. Leon Watson officiating and burial in Sardis Cemetery north of Stamps under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.

Martha Sexton

Martha Sexton, age 80, of Springhill, Louisiana died Friday, May 7, 2004 in Springhill. She was born March 31, 1924 in Fouke, Arkansas. Mrs. Sexton was a homemaker.

Survivors include: two sons & one daughter; a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 10, 2004 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with the Rev. D. Anders officiating and burial in the Snell Cemetery at Emmet, Arkansas under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.

Sarah Richardson

Sarah Richardson, age 87, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas formerly of Lewisville, Arkansas died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 in Pine Bluff. She was born May 4, 1917 in Septa, Mississippi. Mrs. Richardson was a retired school teacher, active in The United Methodist Church, member of The Eastern Star, member of The Home Demonstration Club and was named "Woman of the Year".

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Howell O. Richardson; son, William Perrin Richardson; sisters, Nellie, Lenora & Kate; brothers, Woodrow and Ralph. Mrs. Richardson will be missed and remembered by everyone whose life she has touched with her firm but loving hand.

She is survived by: two daughters & sons-in-law, Elizabeth & Jay Culpepper of Magnolia, AR and Kay Herrin & Robert Hester of Pine Bluff, AR; one son & daughter-in-law, Howell O. Richardson, II & wife Rebecca of Wake Village, TX; six adopted Hester children; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at The First United Methodist Church in Lewisville with the Rev. Russell Bailey and Rev. Dale Diffie officiating and burial in Wilson Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, AR.

Hester Owens

Hester Owens, age 85, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Sunday, May 2, 2004 at Christus St. Michaels Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. She was born January 26, 1919 in Waldo, Arkansas. She attended Waldo High School and was a member of the Bumpham Springs B.C. in Gin City where she served as an usher, Sunday School teacher and a pianist. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, and five sisters.

Survivors include: one daughter, Louise Turner of Canfield, Arkansas; one brother, Ollie Graham of Las Vegas, NV.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Bumpham Springs B.C. with Rev. Chester Grant officiating and burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Bradley, Arkansas.

John R. Hart

John R. Hart, age 70, of Sunset, Texas died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Bowie Memorial Hospital in Bowie, Texas. Mr. Hart was born March 14, 1934 in Stamps, Arkansas. He was a soft trim repairman for General Motors.

Survivers include: his wife, Betty Lewis Hart of Sunset; one daughter, Mary DoByns of Sunset; two sons, Terry Hart of Benbrook, TX and Frank Hart of Riolinda, CA.

Services were held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Fry Funeral Home Chapel in Bowie, TX with Rev. Larry Miller officiating.

Calvin Harper

Calvin Harper, age 59, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Friday, April 30, 2004 . He was born May 20, 1944 in Lewisville. Mr. Harper was a 1962 graduate of Foster High School in Lewisville, a 1966 graduate of Texas Christian College in Tyler, Texas with a 4.0 GPA & received a Bachelors of Art Degree in Social Studies, served in Vietnam in the US Army, and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Lewisville. He was a cattle farmer.

He is survived by: his mother, Ms. Sadie Harper of Lewisville; a brother, Roy Harper of Burkeville, TX.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Imond Washington officiating and burial with military honors.

Army Captain, Arthur "Bo" Felder
October 17, 1967 - April 24, 2004

Army Captain, Arthur "Bo" Felder of the 39th Support Brigade was killed in action Saturday April 24, 2004 in Iraq. Captain Felder served with the 1st Calvary Division 39th Combat Team from Hazen, AR and was deployed to Iraq on March 17, 2004.

Captain Felder was a 20-year member of the U.S. Army. He began his career during the summer of his junior year in high school. Prior to going to Iraq, he served with peacekeeping missions in Bosnia and Honduras. In 1995 he graduated 2nd highest in his class, Officers Candidate School at Camp Robinson, in North Little Rock, AR.

Captain Felder or Bo as he was known by all his family and friends grew up in Lewisville, AR. He was a 1985 graduate of Lewisville High School where he excelled academically and athletically. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science with a minor in Biology in 1989 from East Texas Baptist University, Marshall, TX. He was a proud member of the fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma, Inc. where he actively participated in various community service projects across the state. Captain Felder taught at Step One, an alternative school for juveniles in Little Rock, AR.

Captain Felder loved God, life and his family. He especially loved his two children son, Jaelun Felder and daughter, Amari Felder.

Captain Felder leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée Lisa Lewis, his two children Jaelun and Amari. His mother Dr. Cheryl Stuart, two brothers Robert Stuart and Littrelle Felder, and two sisters Gwendolyn Gingery and Kelana Greer.

Bo had a zeal for life and lived life to the fullest. He will be missed, but he will be most remembered for his laughter, his dedication to God and his country and his undying love for his family.

Services for Captain Arthur Felder were held 11am Monday, May 3 at St. Mark Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Interment was at the Arkansas Veteran's Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas. Memorial services were held 6pm Sunday, May 2 at Lewisville School Auditorium 711 Chestnut St. Lewisville, AR. Services entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc. of Hope, Arkansas.
