Adolphus Oxford Beasley
Adolphus Oxford Beasley, age 90, of Magnolia, Arkansas formerly of Stamps, Arkansas died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Magnolia Healthcare in Magnolia. She was born March 27, 1918 in Stamps to the late Bro. Paul and Linnie Oxford. Mrs. Beasley was an Arkansas retired school teacher of 39 years, a member of the Shiloh Union Baptist Church in Buckner, Arkansas where she served the Lord by being a Sunday School teacher for many years and was church clerk for about 10 years and was Secretary/Treasurer for the Shiloh Cemetery committee for a number of years. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Gilbert Beasley; brothers Glenn Beasley and J.L. Beasley; and sister, Margaret Burris.
She is survived by: a daughter & son-in-law, Rae Buchanan & husband Jay of Magnolia; sister, Marial Turley of Conway, AR; brothers, Jim Oxford and Tom Oxford of Flint, TX and Ed Oxford of Waco, TX; sisters-in-law, Charlene Oxford of Little Rock, AR and Beulah Oxford of Hot Springs, AR; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 am on Sunday, October 9, 2008 at Shiloh Union Baptist Church at Buckner, Arkansas with Bro. Charles Loyed officiating and burial in Shiloh Union Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Lois Blunt
Lois Blunt, age 95, of Gainesville, Florida formerly of Bradley, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Woodlands Care Center in Gainesville. She was born March 24, 1913 in Okolona, Arkansas. Mrs. Blunt was a retired hairdresser, 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she was active in Florida until her death, and a member of the Bradley Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyer Blunt of Bradley.
She is survived by: her daughter, Gloria Woods-Tobey of Gainesville; sistter, Vesta Spiros of Sarasota, FL; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Bradley under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
Virginia Burns
Virginia Burns, age 82, of Buckner, Arkansas died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at her residence. She was born November 18, 1925 in Fort Worth, Texas. Mrs. Burns was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had open arms to the entire community. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
She is survived by: two sons, Bobby Joe Burns, Jr. of Buckner, AR and Joe Burns & wife Stacy of Buckner; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous other family members and a host of friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at Sardis Cemetery north of Stamps with Rev. Charlie Warren officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps.
James Edward Matthews
James Edward Matthews, age 63, of Magnolia, Arkansas formerly of Stamps, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at his residence. He was born May 11, 1945 in Stamps to the late Leon and Helen Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a retired carpenter and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a 1963 graduate of Stamps High School.
He is survived by: a son, Chad Matthews; daughter, Julie Matthews; sister, Ann Roberts; and two grandchildren.
Cremtion was under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps. No services are to be held.
Merble Fish
Mrs. Merble Fish, age 88, of Taylor, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at Summit Health and Rehab in Taylor. She was born December 18, 1919 in the Oak Grove Community in Stamps, Arkansas to Possy Gold & Frances Elizabeth Bolton. Mrs. Fish was a retired librarian and member of Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Phoenix Jason Fish, her parents, one grandson Chris, four sisters and one brother.
She is survived by: two daughters, Bonnie Carraway & husband Horace of Taylor, and Linda White & husband Gerald of Benton, LA; four sisters, Idell Thompson, Hazel Howell, Bobbie Allen and Emma Poe, all of Taylor; one brother, Dewain Bolton of Bowling Green, KY; one granddaughter, Robin Simpson & husband Gene of Carthage, TX; one grandson, Russell White & wife Brandi of Springhill, LA; four great grandchildren, Kristen Berry & husband Brandon of Carthage, Mandy Simpson of Carthage, Hannah Nikole White of Springhill and Hayley Jo White of Springhill; two great-great grandchildren, Kaleb Simpson and Zachary Berry, both of Carthage.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Forest Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Walker Creek with Bro. Jerry Evans and Bro. Chet Johnson officiating and burial in Forest Grove Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Jesse Hadley
Jesse Hadley, age 69, of Taylor, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Arkansas Nursing & Rehab Center in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was born June 29, 1939 in Emerson, Arkansas. Mr. Hadley was a member of the Beacon Baptist Church at Bussey, Arkansas, a carpenter, and was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Glen Hadley.
He is survived by: a son, Jesse Hadley, Jr. of Porter, TX; brother, John Hadley of Springhill, LA; two nephews, Kelly and Chris Hadley of Springhill; friend & companion, Mavis Ione Higdon of Taylor; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Taylor with Rev. Kerry Easley officiating and burial in Stateline Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Stamps, AR.
Mike Newton
Michael Len Newton, age 53, of Lewisville, Arkansas formerly of Hope, Arkansas passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 in Medical Park Hospital in Hope. he was born on August 20, 1955 in Hope to Delbert Wayne and June Faris Newton. Mr. Newton was a forestry technician, a member of First Baptist Church of Hope, an Army veteran serving from 1972 to 1975 and was stationed in Germany. He was preceded in death by his father in 1995.
Survivors include: his wife of 28 years, Marla Smith Newton of Lewisville; two sons, Patrick Newton and Michael "Eli" Newton, both of Lewisville; one daughter, Jennifer Martinez & Mario of Lewisville; his mother, June Newton of Hope; two brothers, Christ Newton & Priscilla, and Kenny Newton & Donna, all of Springhill, AR; three grandchildren, Lorena Patterson of Fouke, AR, Mary Martinez and Melody Martinez, both of Lewisville; numerous family and friends.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 12, 2008 at First United Methodist Church, Lewisville with Rev. Donnie Holt officiating and burial in Wilson Cemetery in Lewisville.
Robin Lynn Camp
Mrs. Robin Camp, age 41, of Stamps, Arkansas passed away May 26, 2008 in Nashville, Arkansas. She was born June 4, 1966 in Magnolia, Arkansas to Tony and Dossie Davis. Mrs. Camp was the manager at the Family Dollar Store in Nashville, and was a Baptist.
She is survived by: her parents, Tony & Dossie Davis of McNeil, AR; husband, David Camp, Sr. of Stamps; two sons, Charles & wife Lacey Holt of McNeil and David Camp, Jr & wife Joyce of Stamps; three daughters, Brandy & Jason Cockrell of McNeil, Dee Dee Ogle of Stamps, and Janice Teague of Stamps; one brother, David Eley of Emerson, AR; one sister, JoAnn Eley of Jackson, MI; eight grandchildren, Chad Cockrell, Tanner Holt, Carlie Teague, Cara Teague, Casey Teague, Stephanie Thompson, Timothy Thompson and Cassi Roberts.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Stamps with Rev. Bubba Wells officiating and burial in the Sardis Cemetery.
