J.C. "Kid" Turnage
J.C. "Kid" Turnage, age 72, of Magnolia, Arkansas died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at St. Michael's Hospital in Texarkana, Texas. He was born April 4, 1934 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Mr. Turnage was retired from Arkla Gas Company.
He is survived by: two sons, Neil Turnage and Jerry Turnage, both of Magnolia; a daughter, Patricia Cutchall of Texarkana, AR; two sisters, Ivy Edman and Gertrude Huggins, both of Magnolia; brother, Edward Turnage of Lake Charles, LA; three grandsons, Jarriad, Chris and Waylon Turnage.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps with burial in Shiloh Cemetery in Buckner under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Syble Ilene Peterson Cox
Syble Ilene Peterson Cox, age 83, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Thursday, October 5, 2006 at her residence. She was born September 11, 1923 in Columbia County, Arkansas to the late Arthur and Cora Peterson. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Cox and by two sisters; Dorothy House and Clelless Nall and by three brothers; Jim Peterson, Coy Peterson and Carl Peterson.
She is survived by: two daughters, Linda Toland and Mattie Burns, both of Lewisville; two sons, John Wayne Cox of Hope, AR and Randy Joe Cox of Lewisville; four sisters, Shirley Featherston of Lewisville, Helen McClure of Bradley, AR, Flo Moore of Hope, and Ruby McCoy of Stamps, AR; ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bobo and Harold Freeman officiating and burial in Mt. Nebo Cemetery at Patmos under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Wiley Bennett
Wiley Bennett, age 87, of Taylor, Arkansas died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Springhill Medical Center in Springhill, Louisiana. He was born August 19, 1919 in Jamestown, Louisiana. He was retired from International Paper Company and a retired farmer and was a member of the Springhill First Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Lillie Bennett of Springhill, LA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Janis & Wallace Foster of Taylor, and Cheryl Boullion of Taylor; brother, J.B. Jurls of Alabama; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Springhill, Louisiana with Rev. Ronald Morgan officiating and burial in the Walnut Hill Cemetery at Bradley, Arkansas under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Louise E. Franklin
Louise E. Franklin, age 95, of Stamps, Arkansas, died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at the Homestead Manor Nursing Home in Stamps. She was born in Stamps on April 13, 1911. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stamps where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years and a member of the W.M.A. Mrs. Franklin was preceded in death by her husband, Dixie Franklin, parents John and mary Lucy Mae Calhoun Everett, step-daughter, Janie Mai Franklin McMahen, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include: one sister, Era Bright of Lewisville, AR; one step-granddaughter, Barbara Jane McMahen Rushing and husband Troy of Shreveport, LA; one step-grandson, David McMahen and wife Becky of Dover, AR; three step-great grandchildren; a hose of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 2, 2006 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Turner officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill E. Newton. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Oliver "Bo" D. Sanders
Oliver "Bo" D. Sanders, age 68, of Stamps, Arkansas died Thursday, September 28, 2006 at his residence. He was born April 8, 1938 in Fouke, Arkansas. Mr. Sanders was a Baptist and a retired oilfield driller and a landscaper.
He is survived by: his wife, Christine Sanders of Stamps; two sons & daughters-in-law, Jeff & Shelly White of Stamps and Tommie & sherry Sanders of Haynesville, LA; three daughters & a son-in-law, Theresa & Darren Gardner of Minden, LA, Debbie Lee of Waldo, AR, and Stacy Sanders of Magnolia, AR; four brothers, Archie Sanders, Henry Sanders, Phil Sanders and Steve Sanders; four sisters, Nettie Jean Brent, Doris Creech, Dorothy Davidson and Susie Boyd; thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a special niece, Delisa Seal of Arkadelphia, AR.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Cameron and Rev. Oliver McKamie officiating and burial in Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Joy Lynn Salmon
Joy Lynn Salmon, age 78, of Bradley, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at the Springhill Medical Center in Springhill, Louisiana. She was born August 3, 1928 in Flora, Louisiana. Mrs. Salmon was a homemaker, faithful member at Canfield Baptist Church for 54 years and a member of the Phoenix Club, where she was Treasurer and Church Secretary. She worked at Clary Butane Company for eighteen years and retired from the State of Arkansas as a Social Worker with twenty-two years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents, George W. Parker and Birdie Parker; husband Johnny W. Salmon; brother, Charles parker; and by a daughter, Linda Ruth Salmon.
She is survived by: a son, Johnny Randall Salmon of Bradley; sister, Bernie McCann of Brazoria, TX; two grandchildren, Candice Salmon and Melinda Salmon, both of Bradley.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at the Canfield Baptist Church with Bro. Jerry Hutchins and Bro. Charles Bell officiating and burial at Sweet Home Cemetery in Nevada County, Arkansas on Monday, October 2, 2006 at 11:00 am.
Mary Moore
Mary Moore, 78, of Magnolia, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006 in the home. She was born Jan. 18, 1928 in Lafayette County to the late Jack Richard and Ruby Otellia Oxford Landes. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a switchboard operator for Radio Call. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bill Moore.
She is survived by one sister, Ellen Shinn of Magnolia; five grandchildren, Laura DeJong, Susan Molina, Tony Cole, Shay Hammond and Michael Carr, all of California; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Lindsey, Jakob, Brittany and Justin; two special friends, Mildred Langley and June Huston; and a number of loved pets.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Church with Bro. David Wood officiating.
Mazelle Lester
Mazelle Lester, age 101, of Stamps Arkansas died Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the Homestead Manor Nursing Home in Stamps. She was born May 22, 1905 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. Ms. Lester was a retired employee of the Alan White Company.
She is survived by a cousin, John Lester, III of Texarkana, AR.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm on Monday, September 18, 2006 at Mars Hill Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
