Carlton Coleman
Carlton Coleman, age 70, of Stamps, Arkansas died Monday, September 11, 2006 at his residence. He was born December 14, 1935 in El Dorado, Arkansas. Mr. Coleman was a Disabled Army Veteran having received the Purple Heart in the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in death by: his parents, B.H. Coleman and mary Letrus Barker Coleman; three brothers, James, Bill and Thomas Coleman; and by a sister, Mayme Millican.
He is survived by: a sister and brother-in-law, Maydell and Aubrey Nix of Stamps; a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 am on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Oak Grove Cemetery south of Stamps with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Jarrell Haskell Teague
Jarrell Haskell Teague, age 65, of Lake Oswego, Oregon, formerly of Stamps, Arkansas, died Monday, September 4, 2006 at his home. He was born July 20, 1941 in Stamps to the late James Haskell Teague and Myrene Oglesby Teague.
While in his teens, Jarrell was a member of a gospel quartet, "The Hilltoppers", and performed in several venues in southwest Arkansas, once appearing on the Louisiana Hayride. He taught gospel and shape-note singing at the Stamps School of Gospel Music in Dallas, Texas and was a cast member in musical productions at The Centenary Performing Arts Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Jarrell attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and was a member of Acacia Fraternity and Schola Cantorum. After graduating from Southern Arkansas University in 1965, he attended the University of Arkansas School of Medicine and received a Doctor of Medicine in 1969. Jarrell interned at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma and joined the United States Air Force in 1970. He was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and served as Flight Surgeon.
After military discharge, Dr. Teague took a residency in Radiology at the University of California School of Medicine in Davis, California, remaining for a number of years as Professor of Medicine. He concluded his medical career as a Diagnostic Radiologist at Northwest Permanente in Portland, Oregon.
An accomplished musician, Jarrell entertained residents of retirement centers in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oregon for the last five years by playing classical compositions and old standards on the piano. Jarrell dedicated his life to others as a physician and as a musician.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a daughter, Kimberley Redmon Teague.
He is survived by: his wife of forty-two years, Alice Faye Redmon Teague of Lake Oswego, OR; sister, Mona Jan Teague of Fayetteville, AR; nephew, Jackson Teague Villines of Fayetteville, AR; a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps, Arkansas with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery south of Stamps under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Conway Watson
Conway Watson, age 90, of Buckner, Arkansas died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at his residence. He was born June 8, 1916 in Lafayette County, Arkansas. Mr. Watson was retired from Bio State oil Company, member of The First Baptist Church in Stamps, member of the American Legion, a Mason, a fifty year member of The Chapter of York Rite and a member of The Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Robert Garner Watson; a sister, Nell Elledge; brother, J.T. "Jack" Watson; and by a nephew, Kenneth Wade Elledge.
He is survived by: a brother, Marvin E. Watson of Big Springs, TX; sister, Martiel Thomas of Buckner; two nieces, Joyce Robbins and Paulette Kerr; nephew, Marvin E. Watson, Jr.; a host of grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home in Stamps with burial in Sardis Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
Geneva B. McKamie
Geneva B. McKamie, age 87, of Stamps, Arkansas died Saturday, September 2, 2006 in the Vivian Health Care Center in Vivian, Louisiana. She was born September 6, 1918 in Lewisville, Arkansas. Mrs. McKamie was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Stamps where she taught The Mary Hart Sunday School Class for many years. She was also the co-owner of The Two Sisters Store in Stamps for many years and was preceded in death by her parents, Otho and Flossie Turner and by her husband, Herman McKamie.
She is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Frank Carroll of Vivian, LA; brother and sister-in-law, Lavern and Erlene Vines of Hope, AR; two sisters, Corrine Brockman of Magnolia, AR and Elvidean Madlock of Hope; special brother-in-law, Wayne McKamie and his wife Velna of Oklahoma City, OK; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Dickey and Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating and burial in Lakeside Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Stamps.
W.H. (Woody) Waters
W.H. (Woody) Waters, age 87, of Goliad, Texas, formerly of Beaumont, Texas and El Dorado, Arkansas passed away Friday, September 1, 2006. He was born December 18, 1918 in Rosston, Arkansas to the late Thomas Christopher and Rachel Camp Waters of Rosston. Mr. Waters retired from PPG Industries of Beaumont. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Stamps Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Russell Waters and sisters Marion Riddick, Pauline Martin and Lettie Martin.
Survivors include: one son, Larry Waters of Goliad; two daughters, mary A. McLauclin of Beaumont; Judith J. Sunderland of Osterville, MA; one brother, David Waters of Shreveport, LA; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 am on Monday, September 4, 2006 at the Columbia Cemetery in Waldo, Arkansas.
Rosie M. Stewart
Rosie M. Stewart, age 83, of Mountain Pine, Arkansas died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born September 9, 1922 in Shongaloo, Louisiana to Talton F. Webb and Candy Strong. She was a member of Immanuel Christian Fellowship Church and a retired nursing assistant from St. Joseph's Hospital and Ouachita Job Corp. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, L.J. Stewart; a daughter, Louvenia Williamson; a son, W.C. Ellis; a grandson, Richard Ellis; and one great grandson, Chris Sargent.
Survivors include: her children, Roy Ellis of Wytheville, VA, Steve Ellis of Hot Springs, AR, Jessie L. Stewart of Mtn. Pine, Luerene Burris, Cathleen Walker & Rose Blevins, all of Mtn. Pine; sisters, Ola Johnson of Buckner, AR, Annie L. Watson of Pine Bluff, AR, Christine Carter of Muskegon, MI, and Christell Anderson of Shreveport, LA; brothers, Floyd Webb of Waldo, AR and Sammy Webb of Hot Springs; twenty-four grandchildren, fifty six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Services were held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Immanuel Christian Fellowship Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Fred Nicholson officiating and burial at Buckner Community Cemetery in Buckner, Arkansas.
John Alfred Ross, Jr
John Alfred Ross, Jr., age 73, of Lewisville, Arkansas died Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at his residence. He was born April 8, 1933 in Forrest City, Arkansas. Mr. Ross was a Navy-Marines veteran, member of the American Legion Post #1000, member of First United Methodist Church of Lewisville, and a retired painting contractor. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Ross, Sr. and Bessie Huges Ross, and by a sister, Ann Hamilton.
He is survived by: his wife, Gloria Ross of Lewisville; his son, John A Ross, III of Orange, TX; three daughters, Kelly & husband Lester Bill of Cyprus, CA, Michelle McLaughlin of Lewisville, and Christine & husband David Franks of Lewisville; brother, Charles William Ross of West Helena, AR; sister, Christine Triplett of Lewisville; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Willie Eva Adams
Willie Eva Adams, age 94, of Bradley, Arkansas died Monday, August 28, 2006 at her residence. She was born June 7, 1912 in Columbia County, Arkansas to the late Robert and Martha Eva Adams. Ms. Adams was a farmer and dairy owner who loved her animals. She had a deep and abiding love for her church. She was preceded in death by: her parents; two sisters, Clara Sneed and Thelma Cheatham; and by four brothers, Sid Adams, R.T. Adams, Pierce Adams, and Carl Adams, Sr.
She is survived by: a number of nieces and nephews; very special friends: Roger Smith of Runnels, IA and Audrey Estes of Bradley; and a host of other friends.
Memorial services were held at The Bradley Methodist Church in Bradley at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 1, 2006 with Rev. Spencer Plumley officiating.
