David Larnce Manes

David Larnce Manes, 82, of Mammoth Spring, Ark., was born Dec. 1, 1925 in Camp, Ark., and died Nov. 25, 2008 at his home.

He was united in marriage Jan. 18, 1947, to Mary Lee Jones.

David was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and Viet Nam, a member of Disabled American Veterans and a military retiree.

After retiring from the service he made his home in Mammoth Spring where he farmed and raised cattle.

He is survived by: his wife; two sons, David Manes Jr. of Mammoth Spring, Darryl Manes and wife Cathy of Conway, Ark.; two daughters, Phyllis Merritt and husband Bill of Parkville, Mo., Debra Fitzhugh and husband William of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two grandsons, Aaron Fitzhugh and wife Kelly, David Fitzhugh, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four granddaughters, Heather and Holly Fitzhugh of Colorado Springs, Michelle Buchanan and husband Douglas of Koshkonong, Mo., Lacey Lingenfelter and husband Justin of Mammoth Spring, Ark.; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Leo and Wretha Manes; one brother, Frank Manes; two sisters, Lillie Holloway and Grace Holloway; a daughter-in-law, Susan Kay Manes; and a great-granddaughter, Katy Maylee Lingenfelter.

Services were held Nov. 28 at the Clary Funeral Home in Mammoth Spring with Bro. Ken Royster officiating. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery.

Lillian M. Smith

Lillian M. Smith, 89, of Sturkie, Ark., daughter of the late John Newton and Ressie (Peterson) Emery, was born on March 27, 1919, in Moko, Ark. She died Nov. 29, 2008, at the Southfork River Therapy and Living Center in Salem.

Lillian was united in marriage to Shelby Elton Smith on Oct. 3, 1959, at Arcata, Calif. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by: a brother, Ray Emery of Sturkie; and many nieces; nephews; other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her husband; parents; four brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Dec. 2 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, Ark., with Bro. Hillard Story officiating. Interment followed in the Stateline Cemetery at Moko, under the direction of Barker Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Brad Schaufler, Ben Schaufler, James "Red" McLain, Phillip Story, Colt Emery and John Emery.

Memorials preferred to the Stateline Cemetery Association.

Mary Courtwright

Mary Kathryn Brewster Grider Courtwright, 77, of Ash Flat, Ark., daughter of the late Kenneth Merle and Helen Monica (Randolph) Brewster, was born on Dec. 16, 1930, in Borger, Texas. She died Nov. 27, 2008, at the Ozarks Medical Clinic in West Plains, Mo.

She married Allen L. Grider in 1948, and together raised seven children. She worked as a nurse in a nursing home in Portales, N.M.

Following the death of her husband in 1999, she renewed her relationship with her lifelong friend and companion, Charles Courtwright of Ash Flat, Ark., in October 2006.

She was a member of the Saddle Baptist Church.

She is survived by: her companion, Charles Courtwright of Ash Flat; six children, Jeannetta Boyden of Los Lunas, N.M., Kenneth Grider (Paula) of Rogers, Jo Knuth (Eric) of Bella Vista, Jim Grider (Suzanne) of Bentonville, Roy Grider of Centerton and Betty Nolte (Jeff) of Springdale; brother, Richard Brewster (Nancy); sister-in-law, Jean Brewster; brother-in-law, Vernal Mills; 10 grandchildren, John "Jay" Boyden, Kathryn Boyden, Emily Colston (Matt), Jennifer Johnson (David), Sarah Smith, Karen Phelps (Brian), Krystal Hophins (Jimmie), Daniel Boyden, Andrea Snitker (Jeremy), Chance Just; nine great-grandchildren; and many cousins; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her first husband; parents; brother, Charles Brewster; sister, Betty Ann Mills; step-son, Darrell Grider; and son-in-law, J. W. Sumner.

Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Saddle Baptist Church in Saddle, Ark., with Bro. Jackie Dockins officiating. Interment followed in the Hump-hries Cemetery at Glencoe, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Ark.

Pallbearers were family members.

Memorials preferred to the Saddle Baptist Church, 8689 Heart Road, Mammoth Spring, AR 72554.

Loretta Ida Dawson

Loretta Ida Dawson, 82, of Peculiar, Mo., died Monday, Nov, 24, 2008, at The Rehabilitation Center of Raymore in Raymore, Mo. Loretta was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Salem, Ark., the daughter of Robert and Roxie (Rosier) Foster.

She married Norman Dawson on Dec. 1, 1945, in Salem. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Peculiar, a homemaker and she had previously worked at Montgomery Ward.

She is survived by: her husband, Norman Dawson, of the home; one son, Duane Dawson of Stillwell, Kan.; one daughter, Sheila Hunt, of Raymore, Mo.; two brothers, David Foster of Hardy, Ark., and James Foster, of Belton, Mo.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held Nov. 26 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, officiated by Rev. John Roeder of United Methodist Church in Peculiar, Mo., and Rev. Jim Vest, of South Haven Baptist Church in Belton, Mo.

Burial followed in Peculiar Cemetery in Peculiar.

Pallbearers were Dan Jonas, Ryan Dawson, Ron Hunt, Bob Bozeman, Dick Harris and Jimmie Vannordstrand.

Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville.

Mildred M. Chase

Mildred M. Chase, 80 of Salem, Ark., died Nov. 22, 2008, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem.

She was born Dec. 23, 1927, in McPherson, Ark., to Clyde and Eva (Lonon) Chase.

She married Billy Joe Chase and worked many years at Baxter Lab. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Salem.

She is survived by: her daughter, Linda Sue Wilken of Salem; brothers, Kenneth, Robert and Billy Bryant; sisters, Iva M. Mildredson and Marget Skaat.

Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel of Mountain Home, Ark. Burial followed in Baxter Memorial Gardens.

Betty Miksch

Betty Miksch, 87, of Batesville, Ark., formerly of Cherokee Village, died Dec. 3, 2008, at Wood-Lawn Nursing Home. She was born in Lancaster, Ohio, on June 19, 1921, and was the daughter of Porter and Edna (Poling) Ingram.

Betty was a member of the Cherokee Village United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women; and the Lion's Club in Cherokee Village.

She is survived by: her husband of 68 years, Gail L. Miksch; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry D. Miksch and Marnie of Norton, Ohio; one daughter, Gayle J. Silberhorn of Batesville; four grandchildren: Melissa Hayes and her husband, Burt, Greg Bauders and his wife, Lesley, Scott Miksch and his wife, Jeannie, and Donald Miksch and his wife, Tanya; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, John Ted Ingram and his wife, Betty of Port Charlotte, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by: a brother, Lloyd Ingram; and a sister, Juanita Ingram.

Memorial services were held Dec. 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville with Rev. David Steele officiating.

Cremation arrangements are by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
