Verna Keating
Verna D. Keating, 68, of Batesville died Tuesday, October 5, in a local
hospital.
She was a resident of Independence County.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Keating; one son, Sonny Keating of
Pleasant Plains; two daughters, Becky Jones and Elza Faye Keating, both
of Batesville; one brother, Neal Brogdon of Albuquerque, NM; four
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Flaza Brogden.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 7, at 10 a.m. at Batesville
Service Chapel with Rev. David Baxter officiating. Burial followed at
Oaklawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dickey Sisk, Randy Jones, Ronny Brogden, Lynos Ray
Bradley, John Mark Kelley, Vernon Younger and G.C. Brogdon.
Honorary pallbearers were Don McQuary and Glen Keating, Jr.
Arrangements were handled by Batesville Funeral Service.

Paul Coulter
Paul James Coulter, 60, died Wednesday, October 6, in Little Rock.
Formerly of Marianna, Mr. Coulter was a resident of Wynne. He was a
carpenter and a farmer.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Dee and Margrette Coulter
of Moro; three daughters, Rebecca Capps of Lynn, AR, Paula McGee of
Wynne and Paulette Evans of Star City, AR; three brothers, Carl Coulter
of West Memphis, Robert Coulter of Morrilton and Wayne Coulter of
Marianna; two sisters, Jean Woodruff of Fort Smith and Margie Harris of
Aubrey; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Ruth Pounds Coulter and
his wife, Naomi Coulter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, at 2 p.m., at Morgan
Chapel with Rev. Gaylen Hendrix officiating. Burial followed at Oak
Grove Cemetery in Moro.
Pallbearers were Kevin Wallin, Charles Harris, William Harris, Bill
Harris, Danny Gasperatto and Justin Brumley.
Honorary pallbearers were Scott McArthur and Gary Bradshaw.
Arrangements were handled by Morgan Funeral Home in Forrest City.
Larry Fowler
Larry Gene Fowler, 44, died Sunday, October 10, at Northwest Miss.
Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale, MS.
He was a resident of Phillips County and a grain operator at ADM Soybean
Co. in Helena, formerly Quincy. He also was a member of Pettys Chapel
Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Fowler of Lexa; father and mother,
Billy and Lucille Fowler of LaGrange; three sisters, Martha Oxner of
West Helena, Billie Jo Robertson of Flora, MS and Louise Braswell of
LaGrange; two brothers, Paul Fowler of LaGrange and Charles Fowler of
Conway; two grandmothers, Maggie Brown and Myrtle Fowler, both of
Marianna.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 12, at 2 p.m., at Lighthouse
Assembly of God Church in Helena with Rev. Mel George and Rev. Jeff
Russell officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park in West
Helena.
Pallbearers were Wayne Casteel, Jake Lumpkin, Jim Hobson, Jody Boyett,
Christopher Oxner and Paul Joseph Fowler.
Arrangements were handled by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Lavern Brown
Lavern Brown, 65, died Thursday, October 7.
He was the pastor of the Union Liberty M.B. Church in Brickeys and the
St. Mark M.B. Church in Vineyard.
He is survived by his wife, Annie M. Brown; one daughter, Charlette
Tasby of Texas; one God-daughter, Jerwanna Patlon of Marianna; five
sons, Tyrone Brown, Jerome Brown, Varn Brown, Kendall Brown and Paul
Brown, all of Texas; seven sisters, Queen Wilson, Doreatha Polite,
Eleonor Wagner, Renata Brookins and Marquita Crigle, all of St. Louis,
Merlene Gipson of Missouri and Mardene Gillespie of Moro; four brothers,
Carl Brown of Texas, Vincent Brown of St. Louis, Harold Brown of Florida
and Levi Loallace, Jr. of Chicago; 22 grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, at 12 noon, at the
Union Liberty M.B. Church in Brickeys with the Rev. Nathaniel Hull, Sr.
officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Moriah M.B. Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Hightower and Son Funeral Home.
Henry Coleman
Henry Coleman, 51, died Sunday, October 3.
He was a resident of Broax, New York, formerly of Haynes.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Coleman; four children, Tina, Katrina,
Anthony and Jeremy Coleman all of New York; parents, Albert and Essie B.
Coleman of Haynes; four brothers, Sammy Coleman of Boston, Roy Coleman
and Willie Coleman, both of Haynes and Richard Coleman of Forrest City;
five sisters, Alice Taylor, Willie Jean Coleman, both of Haynes, Dorothy
Sanders, Rosie Livingston and Eliza Granberry, all of Boston and
Charlene Coleman of Little Rock; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 11, at 1 p.m., at Spring
Grove Church in Haynes with Ossie Thomas officiating. Burial followed at
Casteel Cemetery in Forrest City.
Honorary pallbearers were relatives and friends.

Mary Vanpelt
Mary Frances Orange Vanpelt, 87, died Wednesday, September 29, at
Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
She was a resident of Marianna and a member of Mt. Gillian Church.
She is survived by six sons, Floyd Vanpelt, James Vanpelt, Edward
Vanpelt, Lewis Vanpelt, all of Marianna, Israel Vanpelt of Memphis and
Larry Vanpelt of Chicago; four daughters, Earnestine Davis of Columbus,
Ida Smith of Omaha, Linda Johnson of Chicago and Doris Allison of
Marianna; three sisters, Magnoli King of New York, Rosie Gaines of
Gillette and Mary Harland of Sherriville; one brother, Sam Orange of
Wynne; 43 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and six great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, at 11 a.m., at Mt.
Gillian Church with Rev. Ted Austin officiating. Burial followed at Gill
Cemetery.
