Johnny Edward Bailey
September 24, 1935 - May 1, 2014
Johnny Edward Bailey, age 78, of Mena, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born Tuesday, September 24, 1935 to Robert Dennis and Anna Mae Phillips Bailey in Mena, Arkansas.
Johnny was a kind caring, compassionate man who never met a stranger. He loved to visit with people and never got in a hurry. He enjoyed life and going fishing. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing sports like baseball and basketball. He worked many different kinds of jobs but for the last several years he was the grounds keeper for The RV Park in Mena. Johnny loved spending time with his family and friends. Johnny was a Christian. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Johnny is survived by his brother, Bob Bailey of Leakey, Texas; one sister, Joyce Ten-Bensel of Minden, Nevada; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
No service will be held at this time. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
Maria Cunningham
August 2, 1927 - May 12, 2014
Maria Cunningham, age 86, of Mena, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at her home at The Oaks in Mena. She was born Tuesday, August 2, 1927 to Karl and Anna Feierfeil Schwab in Muhlhofen, Czechoslovakia.
Maria was a woman of faith, where she was raised in the Catholic Church. She was a very hard worker and tried to provide for her children. She was so proud of being able to bring her children to the United States in 1965. She enjoyed cooking for them and some of her favorite dishes to make were rolanden and claze, potato dumplings, and a steak rolls. Maria enjoyed watching her daytime T.V. and going to Hot Springs to the Octoberfest. She played the accordion and listening to Polka music. Some of her hobbies included sewing, knitting and needlepoint. Maria was a loving mother, grandmother and friend will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Dieter Falk; one sister, Anna Schwab and one grandson, Steven Calhoun.
Maria is survived by her son and daughter in law, Karl and Becky Cunningham of Mena; three daughters, Cindy Cunningham of Dallas, Texas, Heidi Schwab of Missoula, Montana and Annemarie Schwab of Augsburg, Germany; two grandchildren, Tracy Floyd and husband, Rob of Fort Smith and Calvin Terry of Chicago, Illinois; one great grandchild, Malachi Floyd of Fort Smith; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Roger Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be general.

Leonard Stanley George I am a Veteran.

Leonard Stanley George, age 90, of Wickes, went to be with his Lord on Friday, April 25, 2014 at in Dallas, Texas. He was born Wednesday, December 19, 1923 to William Taylor and Caroline Stanley George in Weatherford Texas.
Stanley was a World War II Navy Veteran and served his country valiantly earning 3 Bronze Stars at the Normandy Invasion and another in the Murmansk Run. He was a proud member of the Mena DAV. Stanley was a linguist and taught German, Spanish and Russian at the Berlitz School of Languages in Fort Worth, Texas. He spoke 7 different languages and delighted in singing in Latin, Spanish and German. A devout Christian, he was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Mena. He loved to sing in the choir. Stanley had also sung in the Schola Cantorium Choir in Fort Worth, Texas and the Houston Saengerbun and the Panther Creek Christian Community Choir in Smithville, Oklahoma. His jovial, friendly and loving nature with a great sense of humor made him a joy to be around. He was greatly loved and will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry Taylor George and his son in law, Joel Max Hand.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Cadwalader George of the home; six children, Katheen George Bradbury of Fort Worth, Mairead George Hand of Cleburne, Texas, Edward Leonard George of Dallas, Texas, Seana George-Trujillo of Fort Worth, Kevin Frances George and wife, Berta of Fort Worth, Kurt Forrest George of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Angela Christina George of Washington, D.C. and Kevin Taylor George of Fort Worth; six great grand children; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Mass service will be held at a later date. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
Hershel H. Hopper
July 27, 1943 - March 31, 2014
Hershel H. Hopper, age 70, of Zafra, Oklahoma died Monday, March 31, 2014 at his home. He was born on Tuesday, July 27, 1943 to Linden and Ruthie Beatrice Romine Hopper in Smithville, Oklahoma.
Hershel graduated from Smithville High School in 1962. He was baptized at the Assembly of God at Boardcamp, Arkansas and attended church at the Zafra Church of Christ. He was known for being an outdoorsman. He was a logger for over 50 years and when he was not logging you could find him fishing on the lake or in the river. Then in the fall of the year he was ready for deer season. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, teaching them how to work the worm on the end of their fishing line and showing them how to track and hunt deer. Hershel loved his family and was very proud of each one of them. Hershel was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him
Hershel is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Susan Hopper; one brother and sister in law, Chuck and Janette Hopper.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Eva Hopper of Zafra; his two sons and daughters in law, Linden and Rachael Hopper of Mena and Michael and Kimberly Hopper of Mena; his daughter and son in law, Melinda and Tim Bodkin of Mena; two brothers and sisters in law, James and Sue Hopper of Potter and Danny and Joyce Hopper of Greenwood; two sisters and brothers in law, Triva and John Hilton of Potter and Revia and Henry Bruce of Zafra; six grandchildren Chelsey and Johnathan Bodkin, Lilly and Samuel Hopper and Ruby and Remington Hopper all of Mena; one great granddaughter Lacelynn Bodkin of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Zafra Church of Christ with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Interment will follow in the Smithville Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Friday, April 4, 2014 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Rose, Garland Owens, Clifford Johnston, Donnie Evans, Roy Morgan and Jim Elliot. Honorary Pallbearer will be Coy Fairless.
John Brian Sterner
October 20, 1956 - April 2, 2014
John Brian Sterner, age 57, of Mena, Arkansas died Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at home. He was born on Saturday, October 20, 1956 to Charles Russell and Wanda Eddlene Red Sterner in Mena, Arkansas.
Brian was a jokester and loved to find something to aggravate you about. He lived life to its fullest and had fun doing it. Brian could do anything, from helping someone work their cattle to playing the guitar. As a younger man, he was a rodeo clown and worked the rodeo circuits. Brian enjoyed hunting, fishing and for two years straight, he was the World Champion for Wolf Hunting. He was a member of the Baker Springs Hunting Club and a Boy Scout Cub Master for 8 years. He was proud of Scouting because he was able to spend quality time with his sons. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. Brian was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father and special aunt Mary Catherine Bowen.
Brian is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kellie Sterner of Mena, three sons and daughters in law, Billy and Jeanne Sterner of Mena, Ben and Montana Sterner of El Paso, Arkansas and John Harry of Denver Colorado; two daughters and Son in law, Brenda and Lance Thresher of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Becky Sterner of Mena; his brothers and sisters in law, Aubrey and Ginger Sterner of Mena, David and Vicki Sterner of Van, Texas and Peter Sterner of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Tyler Thresher of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Samantha Gorden and Gavin Gorden both of Mena and Tuck Sterner of El Paso, Arkansas; his mother in law, Joe Thorpe of Owasso, Oklahoma; sisters in law and brothers in law, Denise and Wayne Malaer of Collinsville, Oklahoma and Mac and Andi Thorpe of Moss Point, Mississippi ; special cousins, Sherry Ray of Kingman, Arizona and Susan Frizell of West Fork, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena with Brother Mark Lyle officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Mena under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 4-6 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
Pallbearers will be Billy Sterner, Ben Sterner, Aubrey Sterner, David Sterner, Lance Thresher and Kenny Steele.

Shari Ladell Breaux

Shari Ladell Breaux, age 58, of Mena, Arkansas died Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at her home. She was born on Sunday, November 3, 1961 to Billie Lynn and Julia Marie Smith Meador in Pasadena, Texas.
Shari believed in the Lord and was a good Christian woman. She spent her life taking care of her family and providing them with a warm and loving home. Shari cherished every moment spent with her children and grandchildren, and was very proud of them. She enjoyed going shopping, dancing, and sewing in her free time. Shari was a loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
Preceded in death by her father, Billie Meador.
Survivors include her sons and daughter in law, Buck Strother of Fort Smith and Dakota and Kala Strother of Mena; two daughters and sons in law, Raychel and David Hill of Mena and Sarah and Jonah Sarabia of Eunice, New Mexico; her mother, Julia Barnidge of Pasadena, Texas; step mother, Claudia Meador of Dayton, Texas; brother, Don Meador of Pasadena, Texas; sisters, Cindy Corder of Pasadena, Texas and LaQuitta Breaux of Pasadena, Texas; her soulmate, Shayne Breaux of Pasadena, Texas; twelve grandchildren, Faith Hill, Gracie Hill, Charish Hill, Kady Strother, Clara Strother, Jayden Kelley, Cooper Strother, Kasen Strother, Truitt Strother, Ace Sarabia, Gage Sarabia and Jayne Sarabia; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Mama Nell Family Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas with Brother Don Meador officiating. Burial arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.
