Leonard Ward
Leonard Ward, 73, died Tuesday, October 5, in his home.
He was a resident of Marianna and a member of the New Bethel M.B.
Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, at 11 a.m., at New
Bethel Church in Marianna. Burial will follow at Clay Hill Cemetery in
Haynes.
Arrangements are being handled by Marianna Funeral Home.
Iola Blocker
Iola King Blocker, 85, died Monday, October 4, at Baptist Central
Hospital in Memphis.
She was a resident of Marianna and a member Eagle Zion Church.
She is survived by seven daughters, Iola Blocker and Lelia M. Jones,
both of St. Louis, Florence Matthews, Olivia Peals, Elizabeth Whitaker
and Marilyn Diane Blocker Simpson, all of Marianna, Rosie A. Jackson of
Hanford and one daughter she raised, Florence Matthews; five sons,
Lonnie Blocker of Marianna, Archie Blocker, III, Earnest Blocker, Toney
Blocker, all of St. Louis, and two sons she raised, Terry Warren of
Marianna and Earnest Warren of Hanford, 61 grandchildren and 11
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Archie Blocker, Jr., three
children, Mamie Blocker, Darlene Blocker and George Blocker and two
grandsons, Theodis Blocker and Jason Fleony.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, at 2:30 p.m., at Lee
High School with Rev. Lester Webb officiating. Burial followed at
Pilgrim Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Masonic Brothers.
Honorary pallbearers were Lonnie Blocker, Archie Blocker, Earnest
Blocker, Tony Blocker, Terry Warren and Earnest Warren.
Arrangements were handled by Marianna Funeral Home.
Emily Porterfield
Emily Bullard Porterfield, 68, of Houston, died Saturday, October 9.
She was born on March 1, 1931 in Marianna, daughter of the late Davis
and Faye Bullard. She graduated from T.A. Futrall High School and
attended Henderson State College. She and her children made their home
in Marianna several times when her husband served overseas during his
army career. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jack B. Porterfield; four sons, Beck,
Davis, Lee and Clifford Porterfield; a daughter, Faye Porterfield; and
eight grandchildren, all of the Houston area; one sister, Willa Jo
Beuhler; one brother, George Davis Bullard; and one niece Betsy Bowman
of Marianna.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 13 in Houston, Texas.
Nelson Scott, Sr.
Nelson Scott, Sr., 62, died Friday, October 29, at his home.
He was a Lee County farmer for over 40 years. He was a faithful member
of the New Hope Baptist Church in Moro were he sang with the Six Kings
at Harmony, served as a deacon and was superintendent for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Neely Scott; six children, Doris
Clay of Little Rock, Frank Scott of Moro, Sharrie Lemon of Dolton, Ill,
Theressa Scott of Jonesboro, Georgia, Dennis Scott and Christopher Scott
of Dallas, Texas; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 6, at 2 p.m., at New
Hope Church with Rev. Spencer Brown officiating. Burial will follow at
New Hope Cemetery. Repass will be held at AFLDC, the old Moro School
Building.

Magnolia Coleman
Magnolia Coleman, 83, died Thursday, October 21, at Helena Regional
Medical Center.
She was a resident of Marianna.
She is survived by one daughter, Dazey Lurelean Joshua Thomas of
Marianna and one brother, Robert Hinton of St. Louis, MO.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester Hinton, Jessie Lee
Hinton, Joe Willie Hinton and Maceo Hinton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, at 2 p.m., at Mr.
Calvary M.B. Church in Marianna, with Rev. Cecil Thomas officiating.
Burial followed at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Brickeys.
Pallbearers were Garland Thomas, Gilford Thomas, Stanley Thomas, Jearld
Thomas, Johnny Thomas Hulum, Milfred Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, Daryl
Thomas and Dedrick Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers were Jason Thomas, Harland Coney, Adrian Thomas,
Shawn Bogan and Demetrious Fowler.
Arrangements were handled by Hightower and Sons Funeral Home.
Clarence Rucker, Sr.
Clarence Rucker, Sr., 67, died Tuesday, October 26, at Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Forrest City.
He was a resident of Forrest City and a member of United Christian
Church. He also was a 38 year employee of the Chicago Bridge Iron
Company of Memphis.
In 1955 he was united in marriage to Lucinda Rucker, who preceded him in
death.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Rucker; thee sons, Cleophis Rucker of
Grand Rapids, Michigan, Clarence Rucker, Jr. of West Memphis and Ronald
Rucker of Forrest City; four daughters, Barbara Rucker, Hattie Rucker
and Beverly Ursery, all of Forrest City and Phyllis Norris of Little
Rock; his mother, Mrs. Luzia Rucker; five brothers, Namon Rucker of
Chicago, Jospeh and David Rucker of Forrest City, Leroy Rucker of
Rochester, New York and Reuben Rucker of Jonesboro; four sisters, Carrie
Gadson, Earnestine Jackson and Bertha Rucker, all of New York and Hattie
Mae Wright of Forrest City; five step-sons and three step-daughters and
nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Rucker.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 31, at 2 p.m., at United
Christian M.B. Church in Forrest City, with Rev. J.W. Lockhart, Sr.
officiating. Burial followed at Forrest City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cleophis Rucker, Clarence Rucker, Jr., Otis Franklin,
Ronald Rucker, Alex Ursery and Odell Hill.
Honorary pallbearers were Milton Norris, Reuben Rucker, Jospeh Rucker,
David Rucker and Deacons of United Christian Church.
