Darlene Viola Shockey
March 13, 1934 - June 24, 2015

Darlene Viola Shockey, age 81, of Mena, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at the Mena Regional Health System in Mena. She was born on Tuesday, March 13, 1934 to Elma and Leona Sellers Robbins in Flint, Michigan.

Darlene enjoyed going to church at the United Methodist Church in Mena and loved singing in the choir. She was a daughter of a preacher and enjoyed serving the Lord any way she could. Darlene enjoyed Cooking for her family and also knitting. After retiring to Mena, she worked at the hospital in the kitchen. Darlene was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Shockey; one son Kenneth Shouse, her daughter, Debbie Hoffman; her three brothers, Calvin and Alvin Robbins who were twins and Jimmy Robbins and her sister, Doris Kirby.

Darlene is survived by her son James Shockey of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at 2 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be held Friday, July 3, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Irvine, Kentucky under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Christopher Joe Williams
February 16, 1965 - July 11, 2015

Christopher Joe Williams, age 50, of Acorn, died Saturday, July 11, 2015 at his home. He was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1965 to Mallard Joe and Deloris Jean Clark Williams in Kitzingen, Germany.

Chris was a wonderful man who loved big, lived big and played big. He enjoyed spending time with his family, for they were so important to him in life. Chris was a mechanical and design genius that could restore and fabricate anything from cars, motorcycles, and many other things. He loved to restore classic cars and trucks, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and loved going to car shows. Chris was a loving husband, son, father, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Delores Williams.

Chris is survived by his wife, Janice Williams of Acorn; son and daughter in law, Bradley and Jordan Williams of Lees Summit, Missouri; his father and step mother, Millard and Nelda Williams of Lorena, Texas; one brother and sister in law, George and Vanessa Williams of Eddy, Texas; two sisters and brothers in law, Valerie and Jeff Green of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Nikky and Mark Odermann of Hewitt, Texas; one grandson, Izaak Pycior-Williams of Lee Summit, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Ronald "Fatman" Wayne Hoffman
April 2, 1963 - July 11, 2015

Ronald Wayne Hoffman or “Fatman” to family and friends, age 52, of Mena was born to Jerry and Walissa Shamlin Hoffman on April 2, 1963 in Granite City, Illinois. Ronald was set free to join his departed loved ones and friends July 11, 2015.

Ronald attended Acorn High School and enjoyed playing basketball with the Acorn Tigers on the Junior and Senior High levels. Ronald also played Optimist baseball, and has rooted for the Razorbacks better than anyone I know. Ronald was well loved and will be well missed by many.

Ronald is preceded in death by his loving parents, Jerry and Walissa Hoffman; his older sister, Tana Hoffman Gordon; his beautiful nephew, “Little Paul” Jeffreys; a precious great-niece, Mica Gordon; and uncles Wayne Hoffman and Ronald Hoffman.

Ronald enjoyed a very close bond to his surviving siblings, Russell Hoffman and wife, Liz of Mena, Arkansas and JoAnna Hoffman Taylor and husband, Leslie of Wichita, Kansas; his stepchildren, Steven Sanchez of Panama Beach, Florida and Andrea Sanchez Main of Longview, Texas; nephews, Jason Lyle and Dustin Gordon; and nieces, Ellen Hoffman, Brandi Hoffman and Dana Gordon, nine great nieces; three great-nephews; one great-great nephew and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with cremation services being entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

David Stanley Bates I am a Veteran.
December 20, 1949 - July 10, 2015

David Stanley Bates, age 65, of Potter, died Saturday, July 10, 2015 at the McClellan VA Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on December 20, 1949 to Martin Arthur and Mary Elizabeth Duncan Bates in Montrose, Colorado.

David served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged. After the military, David became a truck driver and drove for many years. David was a loving brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

David is survived by his three sisters, Sylvia Castle of Montrose, Colorado, Cheryl Smith of Ignacio, Colorado and Judy Crafton of St. Helen, Oregon; special friends, Gerald and Diane Riffey of Potter; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

No services are planned at this time. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Mary Evalyn Bogan
May 19, 1941 - August 3, 2015

Mary Evalyn Bogan, age 74, of Mena, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at her home in Mena. She was born on Monday, May 19, 1941 to Murriell Chester and Margaret Louise Harris Kemp in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

Evalyn as she was known, was a person that loved the Lord, her family and others. She attended First Baptist Church in Mena for many years, heading up fellowship meals and was active in her Sunday school class, Heritage. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Evalyn loved to travel and went on numerous trips on Frances Tours over the years and attending the Senior Center every day after retirement. She was an educator for 33 years, 13 years as English teacher and librarian at Acorn Public Schools. Evalyn was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Evalyn is survived by her son and daughter in law, Tim and Sherry Bogan of Springdale, Arkansas; brothers and sisters in law, Roy and Carol Kemp, Kansas City, Missouri, Les and Mary Ellen Kemp of El Paso, Texas and Wallace and Ella Kemp of Texas; two grandchildren; Katie Nichols and husband, Brian of Mena and Jessie Bogan of Hume, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Kaelyn, Gavin, Kamae and Jaxon; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 7, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Mena with Brother Steve Ellison officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena. Visitation will be Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Tritos Holmes Thurmond
July 14, 1947 - September 18, 2015

Tritos Holmes Thurmond, age 68, of Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi, died Friday, September 18, 2015 near Board Camp, Arkansas. He was born on Monday, July 14, 1947 to Holmes Adrian and Dorthea Jane Tyson Thurmond in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Tritos was a man of many attributes by which he lived his life. He was a man that enjoyed having a good time with family and friends. He enjoyed his family and spending time with them camping and riding 4-wheelers. He loved having fun and had a great outlook on life. Tritos was a glassworker by trade and loved making stain glass in his studio. He also enjoyed playing the fiddle and working with his hands. Tritos was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Holmes Adrian Thurmond.

Tritos is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Thurmond of Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi; his son, Sebastian Thurmond of Lafayette, Louisiana; his daughter Chelsea Thurmond of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; his mother, Dorthea Thurmond of Lafayette, Louisiana; two brothers, Butch Thurmond of Slidell, Louisiana and Chuck Thurmond of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; his sister, Mabel Mills of Sunset Louisiana; one granddaughter, Ava Thurmond of Baton Rouge, Louisiana several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lafayette, Louisiana with cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.
