Calvin McMickle
Calvin Horton McMickle, 45, died Tuesday, November 9, in a vehicle
accident near Elaine.
McMickle was born November 22, 1953. He worked for Planters Service in
Elaine and was a member of the Aubrey Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Whitted McMickle of Elaine; a
daughter, Veronica Paige McMickle of Elaine; his parents, Donald and
Clarice McMickle of Aubrey; two brothers, Robert McMickle of Wynne and
Jim McMickle of Marianna; a sister, Elizabeth Thompson of Marianna.
Pallbearers were Ellis Whitted, Dale Whitted, Terry Wright, Steven
Stiles, Billy Buck, Frank Griffith and Junious Pruett.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 14, at Cypert
Cemetery with Rev. Steve Walter officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Bob Neal and Sons Brickell Funeral Home in
Marvell.
Lucille Johnson
Lucille Johnson, 79, of Marianna, died November 8, 1999.
Services were held Saturday, November 13, 1999, at Mt. Moriah M.B.
Church, with Rev. N. Gillespie officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Sigears, Roy Sigears, David Broadway, Gary
Broadway, Frederick McDaniels and Ricky McDaniels.
She is survived by a daughter, Ershlene Sparks of Los Angeles, CA; two
brothers, Daniel Sigears of Moro and Cleophus Sigears of Cleveland,
Ohio; tow sisters, Mary Simon of Cleveland Ohio and Dilland Butler of
Fayetteville, ; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Hightower and Sons Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Adolphis Jackson
Adolphis Jackson, 82, of Marianna, died November 8, 1999.
Jackson was a veteran of World War II and was retired from a railroad
company.
Services were held Saturday, November 13, 1999 at New Hope M.B. Church
in Moro. Rev. Spencer Brown officiated. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gregory Williams, Sr., Clinton Hansberry, Devin
McKnight, Sean Wilson, Jeffrey Swanigan and Rouma Smith.
He is survived by a sister, Bertha Roger of St. Louis, Missouri, and his
nephew and caretaker, Rouma Smith of Moro.
Hightower and Sons handled the arrangements.
Conner Grady
Conner Jerome Grady, 71, died Wednesday, November 10.
He was a resident of Marianna and a faithful member of the St. Luke
A.M.E. Church. He attended Marianna Public Schools, graduating from
Robert R. Moton. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial
Arts from Hampton Institute. He was active in R.O.T.C. and did futher
study at Arkansas State University and University of Arkansas.
He and his father owned and operated a masonry contracting business,
completing the exterior of many businesses and residential buildings in
the city, state and region. He was the first African American member of
the Lee County School Board.
In September 1973, Mr. Grady retired from the brick masonry business and
began a second career teaching. He was an active member and officer of
the Lee County Education Association.
He retired from teaching in 1991 and began working at Lee County City
Hall as the Building Inspector and Code Endorsement Officer. He enjoyed
traveling with his family and was an avid sports fan.
He was a member of the Nacerima Club, Moton Alumni Association, Inc.,
Lee County Retired Teachers Association and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Marianna; one daughter, Donna Creer
of Little Rock; one son, Connor Grady of Texas; one sister, Bethena Best
of Cheverly, Maryland; one grandson, Justin of Texas.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 15, at 11 a.m., at St. Luke
African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Pallbearers were James Banks, Ollie Brantley, Floyd Buford, Jessie
James, Claude Kennedy, Clyde Noel, Charles Robinson, Theodore Shempert,
Gene Thompson and Eoies Trice.
Honorary pallbearers were Ben Anthony, Harry Durham, John Eason, Fred
Heggs, James Hastor, Johnny Massey, the Nacerima Club and Omega Psi Phi.
Arrangements were handled by Kennedy Funeral Home.
Wendy Harris
Wendy Richardson Harris, 43, died Tuesday, November 9, at Baptist
Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
She was a resident of Moro and a housewife. She also was a member of
Moro Full Gospel Church of God.
She is survived by her mother, Marylene Camp Richardson of Moro; two
sons, Joshua Caleb Honeycutt and Billy "B.J." Harris, both of Moro; one
brother, Christopher Richardson of Moro; and two sisters, Wanda Watkins
of Gill and Kimberly Parson of Palestine.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Full Gospel Church of God in
Moro with Bro. Bobby Watkins officiating. Burial followed at Oak Grove
Cemetery in Moro.
Arrangements were handled by Morgan Funeral Home in Forrest City.
Charity Barrett
Charity Dawn Barrett, 26, died Friday, November 12.
She was a resident of Marianna and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny Hart of Marianna and two
daughters, Tabatha Hart and Brittany Hart, both of Marianna.
Graveside services were held Thursday, November 18, at Marianna Memorial
Park at 1 p.m.
Arrangements were handled by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Gladys Waters
Gladys Thomas Waters, 94, died Thursday, November 18, at Sharp Nursing
Home in Sidney, Arkansas.
She was a member of Marvell Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Custer Thomas of Marianna; one
granddaughter, Glenita Vanderford of Marianna; and two
great-grandchildren, Renee and Phil Vanderford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Parsons Thomas in 1947.
Graveside services were held Saturday, November 20, at 10 a.m., at
Marianna Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Walters officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Morgan Funeral Home in Forrest City.
James Walter
James Clyde Walter, 82, died Wednesday, November 17.
He was a resident of Marianna and a member of Mt. City M.B. Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Walter of Marianna; seven sons,
Johnny and Fredrick of Marianna, James, Don and Clifford, all of Little
Rock, Clarence of Lakeland, FL and Clyde of Irving, Texas; two
daughters, Mamie Walter of Marianna and Laura Steward of Forrest City;
21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 21, at 1 p.m., at Mt. City
M.B. Church with Rev. Larry Richmond, Sr. officiating. Burial followed
at Mt. City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Fredrick Walter, Donald Walter, Clarence Walter, Clyde
Walter, Johnny H. Walter, James C. Walter, Jr. and Clifford Garland.
Honorary pallbearers were Willie White, Henry Washington, Oliver
Burnett, Earnest Walter, Johnny C. Evans and Columbus Dukes, Jr.
