Rose Dees
Rose Marie Dees, 71, died Monday, March 15, in St. Louis.
She was a resident of St. Louis and a member of the St. Louis Martin
Paradise Temple.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Dees; 11 children, Carolyn Ray,
Patricia Hyshaw, Walter Dees, Jr., Cynthia Sandford, Janet Marie
Edwards, Velecia Dees, Ronald Dees, Michael Dees, Alvin Dees, Albert
Dees, Alfred Dees; one step daughter, Annie Mae Green; brothers and
sisters, La Frances Holmes, Juanita Rucker, John Rucker, Jr., Joseph
Rucker, Sr., Alvin Rucker, Delores Henderson, Rosalind Brinkley, and
Betty Jean Evans; 35 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 19, at 2:30 p.m. at Hightower
and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Surforney Young
Cemetery in Brickeys.
Pallbearers were John Deal, Walter Simms, Jr. , Michael Edwards, Jr.,
Walter Dees III, Ellis Sandford and Richard Davis, Jr.
Arrangements were handled by Hightower and Sons Funeral Home.
Ida Mae Hurn
Ida Mae Hurn, 64, died Thursday, March 11, at Baptist Memorial Hospital
in Forrest City.
She was a resident of Lee County and an active member of the Sequell
M.B. Church, where she was the church choir director. She also was the
Director of the Marianna area Senior Citizens Choir and a member of the
Union Choir.
She is survived by two daughters, Edith Mae Young of Memphis and Elouise
Matthews of Fort Washington, Maryland; two sons, Louis J. Brandy and
Calvin Tate Brandy, both of East St. Louis, IL; three sisters, Minnie
Mosley of St. Louis, Eadie Franklin of Marianna and Sadie Mosley of Cape
Girardeau, MO; three brothers, Johnnie Nicholson of Decatur, IL, Robert
Nicholson of South Bend, IN and Eddie L. Nicholson of East St. Louis; 11
grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at Sequell M.B. Church in
Rondo, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Booker L. Thomas officiating. Burial
followed at Sequell Cemetery in Rondo.
Pallbearers were Louis J. Brandy, Earl Nicholson, Marcellus Mosley,
Calvin T. Brandy, Edgar Mosley and Jessie Oliver.
Arrangements were handled by Hightower and Sons Funeral Home.
Marzie Anderson
Marzie Anderson, 81, died Friday, March 19.
She was a resident of Lee County.
She is survived by her stepmother, Louise Hicks of Aubrey; one sister,
Jettie Mae Daniels of Sexton, MO; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, at Antioch M.B. Church
in Aubrey with Rev. G.C. Vasser officiating. Burial will follow at
Antioch Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Antioch M.B. Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Marianna Funeral Home.
Willie McKnight
Willie Mae "Sister" McKnight, 74, died Saturday, March 20.
She was a resident of Lee County and retired from the Coco Cola Bottling
Co.
She is survived by two sisters, Danella Fogle of Atlanta and Georgia
McKeown of Marianna; one daughter, Lois McKnight of Marianna; two sons,
Curtis McKnight, Jr. of Memphis and Jerry McKnight of Kansas City; 25
grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Hollins, a brother, Johnny
B. Hollins, and a daughter, Flossie Mae Williams.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 27, at Mt. Calvary M.B.
Church with Minister Curtis McKnight officiating. Burial will follow at
Pilgrim Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Mt. Calvary M.B. Church.
Arrangements will be handled by Marianna Funeral Home.
Laveada Roberts
Laveada Fisher Roberts, 61, died Thursday, March 11, at Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Forrest City.
She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Mallard of Lexa, Paula
Wilkins of Fair Grove, MO and Terri Imus of North Little Rock; four
brothers, Norris Fisher of Bensalem, PA, Thomas Lavaghn Fisher of
LaFayette, LA, Jerald Fisher of West Helena and Neil Fisher of Marianna;
one sister, Freda Doepel of Brinkley; ten grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Fisher and Addie Mae Boggs
Fisher; one son, Roger Willhite, and one grandson, Marcus Holiday.
Graveside services were held Sunday, March 14, at Marianna Memorial Park
at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim McDaniel officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home in Brinkley.
Memorials may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation.
Paul New
Paul Sherrod New, 46, died Sunday, February 28, in New Orleans.
He was a resident of Memphis and chairman of the board of Share One,
Inc. He was a former senior systems developer with Ecom Systems and a
founding partner of Custom Computer Applications.
He attended the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas and
was a member of the University of Arkansas Alumni Association and the
Razorback Club. He also was a National Merit Scholar.
He is survived by his wife, Kathey P. New; a daughter, Kristine Sherrod
New of Memphis; a son, Richard Lee New, also of Memphis; his parents,
Ralph "Lucky" and Mary New of Moro; a sister, Marjorie Roberts of Little
Rock; a brother, Eldon E. New of Memphis; and a grandchild.
Robert Locke
Robert Lee Locke, 47, died Monday, March 15.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lottie Zell Locke; one brother; five
sisters; two daughters; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 20, at the Jackson and
Highley Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, at Jackson and Highley Funeral Home from
1-7 p.m.
Janie Blain
Janie Blain, 98, died Sunday, February 28.
She was a resident of Harrisburg and a former employee of Ralph Wimpy.
She left no survivors, but, funeral services were handled by friends,
Tom Wimpy and Jerry Wimpy.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 4, at Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C.
in Harrisburg at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Harrisburg City Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by J.E. Kennedy Funeral Home.
Annie Parr
Annie Mae Parr, 79, died Wednesday, March 3, at Wynwood Nursing Home in
Wynne.
She was a resident of Cross County where she was active at the Good
Shepherd Center prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Wynne
Baptist Church where she was active in the Keenager Class.
She is survived by a son, Virgil Taylor Parr of Aurora, Ill.; two
daughters, Linda Bright and Brenda Hill, both of Forrest City; one
brother, Milton Brown of Arkadia, TX; one sister, Thelma McElduff of
Texas City; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Neal Parr; her parents,
Taylor and Nona Brown; and two brothers, J.T. Brown and D.C. Brown.
Graveside services were held Saturday, March 6, at 10 a.m. at Cogbill
Cemetery in Wynne with Rev. James Tallant officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne.
