Kenneth Stateler
Kenneth R. Stateler, 78, of Charleston, formerly of Ft. Smith, died on Thursday, June 17, 2004 in Van Buren. He was born on December 18, 1925 in Dallas, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Army. He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, was a lifetime member of the Ft. Smith VFW and was of the Baptist faith.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 21, 2004 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Smith Mortuary Inc. of Charleston.
He is survived by three daughters, Beverly Mason of Charleston, Cindy Andrews of Lavaca and Jennifer Clift of Ozark; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
John Corp
John L. Corp, 82, of Charleston, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Charleston. He was born on January 18, 1922 in Lavaca to Levi Corp and Alvie McAbee Corp. He was a retired self-employed truck driver.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Parks Cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary, Inc. of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Corp of the home; four daughters, Betty Blair and Barbara Dyer both of Charleston; LeAnna Russell of Roland, OK and Melody Claghorn of Ft. Smith; three sons, Jim Corp of Tacoma, Washington; Randy Russell of California and Michael Corp of Bakersfield, CA; one sister, Ruth Corp of South Carolina; two brothers, Paul Corp of Longview, TX and Ray Corp of Checotah, OK; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Marie McDonald
Marie M. McDonald, 87, of Charleston, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Ft. Smith, AR. She was born September 3, 1916, in Cove, AR. She was a homemaker and wife for 67 years and was the widow of the late David D. McDonald. She was a member of the Battiest Baptist Church in Oklahoma.
Funeral was held at the Battiest Baptist Church in Oklahoma at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2004 with burial at Battiest Cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Willard Holmes of Lavaca; a grandson, Wendell Holmes of Charleston; a granddaughter, Kim Burton of Ft. Smith; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brad Burton, Wendell Holmes, Kerry Adams, Rob Spradling, Kenneth McDonald and Steve McDonald.
Honorary pallbearers were A.C. "Sonny" Williams and Jerry McDonald.

Jackie Niven
Jackie Evalee Farr Niven, 82, of Charleston, died on Friday, March 26, 2004 in Charleston. She was born on December 16, 1921 in Hot Springs to Jack Farr and Molly Ralston Ware Farr. She was a member of the Methodist Church and was a homemaker.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Crestview Memorial Park in Hot Springs under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Godfrey of Charleston; one son, William A Niven of Texarkana; one sister, Margaret Stitt of Hot Springs; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Hazel Gentry
Hazel M. Gentry, 87, of Charleston, died on May 21, 2003 in the Paris hospital. She was born on January 8, 1916 in Paris to Cleve Davis and Emma Pearson Davis. She was a retired nurses aid at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at Smith Mortuary Chapel. The body was cremated under the direction of Smith Mortuary, Inc. of Charleston.
She is survived by one daughter, Billy Sue Davis of Memphis, TN.; one sister, Beatrice Caldwell of Mineral Wells, Texas; and two brothers, Otis Davis of Tarpon Springs, Florida and Richard Davis of Bella Vista.
The family will visit with friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at the Smith Mortuary.
Jerry Flaherty
Jerry Edward Flaherty, 52, of Ozark died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1951, in Spiro.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Flaherty of Ozark; 11 sisters, Brenda Phillips of Hunt, Gloria Bartsch of Subiaco, Linda O’Kula of Las Vegas, JoAnn McMasters of Blue Mountain, Kathy Jackson of Ozark, Mary Moore of Clarksville, Angela Predmore, Molly Brixie, Otta Ruston, and Polly Henslee, all of Alexander, and Doris Calhoun of California; five brothers, Lewis Flaherty of Lamar, Truman Flaherty of Coal Hill, Jackie Flaherty of Altus, Steven Flaherty of Lavaca and Thomas Flaherty of Scranton.
Graveside service was held March 5 at Peevyhouse Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Charles Bartsch, Harold Phillips, Doyle Bowman, Randy Henslee, Ricky Jackson and Phillip Brixie. Honorary pallbearers will be brothers and nephews.
Minnie Metcalf
Minnie Metcalf, 96, of Charleston, died on Sunday, October 19, 2003 in Booneville. She was born on July 21, 1907 in Charleston to Rett and Pearl Workman Hawkins. She was a member of the Branch First Free Will Baptist Church and lived most of her life in Charleston. She was the beloved matriarch of the Metcalf family and was the inspiration and strength of her children and was remembered by her grandchildren with hugs at the door, hot meals and gifts of beautiful handmade quilts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Con Metcalf, her parents, Rett and Pearl Hawkins, brother, B.J. Hawkins and sister, Ethel Waggoner.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at Smith Mortuary Chapel with burial held at the Potts Cemetery south of Charleston.
She is survived by three daughters, Maxine Terry of Charleston, Wayland Beard Beard of Charleston and Patsy Lairamore of Pocola, Oklahoma; one son, Ronald Metcalf of Ft. Smith; two brothers, Walt Hawkins of Booneville and Lealon Hawkins of Charleston; 14 grandchildren, Bruce, Randy, Dennis and Mark Terry, Suzanne Fruchtnicht, Loren and Jennifer Swearingen, Stephen Swearingen, Michael Lairamore, Melissa Timms, Sara and Clint Metcalf and Kevin and Scott Smreker; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandchildren.
