Jacob Potts
Jacob Warren Potts, 74, of Ozark, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at a local nursing home. He was retired from International Paper Co.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Looper and Karen Jenkins, both of Oklahoma City, and Dixie Phillips of Van Buren; three sons, Brian Rogers of Alma, Roger Rogers of Lamar and Jacob Potts II of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Jan. 15 at Sherrillville Cemetery in Johnson County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Lena Smith
Lena M. Smith, 92, of Ozark, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, in Ozark. She was born Sept. 8 1910, in Dover. She was a homemaker, former member of Extension Homemakers Club and charter member of Baker’s Creek Baptist Church where she served in several positions. She was the widow of Wheatley Smith.
She is survived by three daughters, Anna Womack and Freda Diffee, both of Ozark, and Beth Ones of Alma; two brothers, Jack Humphreys of El Sobrante, Calif., and Pat Humphreys of Russellville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 19 at Shinn Funeral Service Chapel in Russellville with burial at Old Baptist Cemetery near Russellville.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Baker’s Creek Baptist Church Missionary Fund, P.O. Box 1023, Russellville, AR 72811-1023.
Sharon Edgin
Sharon Kay Edgin, 52, of Ozark, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Ozark First Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, David; three daughters, Sonja Wickens, Brenda Warren and Tiffany Harris, all of Ozark; her parents, Iphis and Opal Banhart of Mulberry; a brother, Tom Banhart of Van Buren; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 17 at Ozark First Baptist Church with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers were Danny Harrington, Mac Bornmann, Johnny Barham, Larry Leding, Robert Jones and Jerry Umholtz.
Eula Bowles
Eula Dorthula Bowles, 86, of Ozark, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at a nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Jethro Pentecostal Church in Ozark.
Survivors include two daughters, Rachael Cooke and Betty Bowles, both of Ozark; three sons, Joe Bowles, Harlan Bowles and Robert Bowles, all of Ozark; one sister, Helen Rucker of Ozark; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 28 at Jethro Pentecostal Church. Burial was held at Oak Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were David Bowles Sr., Robert Cooke, James Bowles, Joey Bowles, Herman Murphy, Jerry Cowan and Jerry Howe.
Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Bowles, Coy Ellison, David Bowles Jr. and Fred Crofford, Jr.
Bonner Pendergrass
Bonner Pendergrass, 74, of Ozark, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired plant engineer for Garrison Furniture of Fort Smith and attended Calvary Baptist Church in Ozark. He was preceded in death by his wife, Della.
Survivors include a daughter, Tama Bean of Arkoma; four sons, Sam and John Pendergrass, both of Van Buren, Ron Pendergrass of Mulberry and Sean Pendergrass of Camden; one stepdaughter; four stepsons; two sisters, June Brook of Mesa, Ariz., and Jean Rogers of Springdale; a brother, Jim Pendergrass of Phoenix; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held June 21 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Lowes Creek Cemetery in Franklin County.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Roy Sloan Jr.
Roy Allen Sloan Jr., 44, of Branch, died on Thursday, July 25, 2002 in Booneville. He was a member of the Branch Church of Christ and was employed by Sparks Manufacturing Co., in Paris.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at the Branch Church of Christ with burial at Hampton Cemetery north of Branch. Cremation and arrangements were under the direction of Smith Mortuary Inc. of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sloan.
He is survived by his wife, Tammie Sloan of the home; two stepsons, Dakota and Dillon Quijada, both of Branch; his father, Roy Sloan of Branch; and one sister, Carolyn Phillips of Ratcliff.
Dorothy Wyatt
Dorothy Isabell Wyatt, 87, of Branch, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, at a Fort Smith hospital. She was born June 7, 1915, in Delaware, Ark. She was a homemaker, member of the Order of Eastern Star and Branch First Baptist Church and widow of John Wyatt Sr.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Cox of Little Rock, Barbara Lovell of Fort Smith and Alicia Wyatt of Branch; three sons, Jim Wyatt of Fort Smith, Bill Wyatt of Van Buren and Phillip Wyatt of Caulksville; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 1 at Branch First Baptist Church. Burial was at Hampton Cemetery, north of Branch, under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
Jimmy Don Brotherton
Jimmy Don Brotherton, 65, of Branch, died on Saturday, March 29, 2003 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born on January 17, 1938 in Branch to Haskell Brotherton and Ressie Bradley. He was a retired brick mason and timber buyer, a member of the National Lodge #411 in Ratcliff, and a member of the Branch First Baptist Church. He loved quail hunting, deer hunting, and fishing.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2003 at the Branch First Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Hobbs and Rev. Roger Haney officiating. Burial was held at the Garden of Memories in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; one daughter, Becky Brotherton of Branch; two sons, Monte Brotherton and daughter-in-law, Mary, of Charleston and Matt Brotherton of Charleston; two sisters, Regina Kirkpatrick of DeQueen and Gloria Dunn of Charleston; and three granddaughters, Macie, Mollie and Meredith Brotherton.
Pallbearers were Jim Wyatt, Jack Oehlschlager, Rex Shumate, Joe Cloven, Jerald Hattabaugh, James Hammond, Billy Fonseca and Bob Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers were the First Baptist Church Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
