Betty Scott
Betty Marie Scott, 73, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a member of the Oliver Springs Full Gospel Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, LeeVern B. Scott; one son, Gary Scott of Van Buren; two brothers, Elmer Crawley of Texas, and Earnest Crawley of Missouri; three grandchildren, Chris Scott of Greenwood, Amanda Scott of Van Buren and Jeremy Scott of Van Buren; and one great-grandchildren, Garon Scott of Greenwood.
Funeral service was held Jan. 16 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was held at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Scott, Dave Sanders, Kenny Sanders, Steve Gann, Pat Dugan and Barry Presson.
Florene Creekmore
Florene Creekmore, 85, of Las Vegas, Nev., died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002. She was a retired school teacher and former resident of Van Buren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Creekmore.
Survivors include one son, Don Creekmore of Las Vegas; two brothers, Truman Boatright and Billy Boatright, both of Alma; two grandchildren, Kristie and Kellie both of Las Vegas.
Funeral service was held Jan. 15 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial was at Pope cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Waymond Betterton, Bob Betterton, James Winborn, Paul Winborn, Johnny Holt and John Holt.
The family will visit with friends, Monday, Jan. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hazel Mae James
Hazel Mae James, 82, of Alma, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a former employee of OK Industries Inc., a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Phoebe Rogers of Van Buren and Betty Flurry of Bonanza; three sons, Bill Mitchell of Alma, Johnny Lee James of Van Buren, and Bobby Dougan of Dyer; one sister, Leota Loveall of Van Buren; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was Jan. 14 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at U.S. National cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Steven Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Jim Loveall, Mark Brown, Denny Brown and Danny Brown.
Carolyn Foster
Carolyn Ann Foster, 52, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in Sallisaw, Okla. She was of the Pentecostal Faith and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Hurd of Van Buren; one stepdaughter, Debbie Wood of Bakersfield, Calif.; three sons, Bobby Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of Van Buren, and Vendle Johnson of Gans, Okla.; two stepsons, Mike Foster of Muldrow, Okla. and Ronnie Foster of Bakersfield, Calif.; four sisters, Joyce Suggs of Alma, Wanda Jones and Margie Foster, both of Fort Smith and Ruth Yandell of Little Rock; four brothers, Donnie Barber of Uniontown, Donald Barber of Alma, Gary Barber and Bennie Barber, both of Van Buren; and 17 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 12 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Yoestown Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Jim Barber, James Allen Shelton, Anthony Shelton, Johnny Jones, Shawn Barber, Curley Jones, Harry Jones and Bubbie Jones.
Margaret Schmitz
Margaret Schmitz, 92, of Charleston, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004.
She was a homemaker, a member of Scared Heart Catholic Church of Charleston, and St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Schmitz and one son James Leo Schmitz.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 at Roller Funeral Home in Paris.
Funeral mass was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Scranton, with burial at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Scranton, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by one daughter, Rose Anna Dunn of Fort Smith; two sons, Wilfred George Schmitz of Charleston, and Robert Joseph Schmitz of Stroud, Okla.; three sisters, Lucille Pfeiffer of Paris, Geneva Lasiter of Fort Smith, and Dorothy Seville of Ballwin, Mo.; one brother, Johnny Spellins of Subiaco; nine grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Roger Whittington
Roger Doss Whittington, 58, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Van Buren, died Jan. 8, 2005, in Phoenix. He was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Fort Smith and was a member of the Van Buren High School graduating class of 1964. He was a Navy and Marine Corps veteran. He was preceded in death by his father, Rogers; sister, Gay; brother, Mark; and granddaughter, Cynthia Whittington.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Whittington of Los Angeles, Calif., and John Whittington of Russellville; his mother, Nocua of Van Buren; one sister, Paula Willis of Fayetteville; one brother, David Whittington of Greenwood; a grandson, Walker Whittington, and a granddaughter, Baylee Whittington, both of Colorado; a niece, Amy Koeningseder; and four nephews, Will Whittington, Heath Willis and Andy and Tim Lockhart.
The body was cremated. A private committal service will be held at a later date.
Jerry Allen
Jerry D. Allen, 55, of Rosettill, Kan., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001. He was the owner of Allen’s Drywall Co. He was a member of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association and had been a member of the Wichita Pigeon club for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Irene Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy; one daughter, Debbie Bergman of Derby, Kan.; brothers, Fred Allen of Cedarville, Kan.; Ted Allen of Van Buren; two sisters, Caron Pritchard and Mashelia Scott of Van Buren; Bonnetta Kurz of Wichita, Kan.; one grandson, Kevin Hutchison of Derby, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
