John L. McDuffie
John L. McDuffie, 64, of Alma, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, at his home. He was a member of Vine Prairie Baptist Church in Mulberry, Navy veteran and district manager of Kilpatrick’s Bread Co. for 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Tresa R. McDuffie; one son, Steve McDuffie of Shady Point; one sister, Patricia Spencer of Alma; one brother, Jim McDuffie of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vine Prairie Baptist Church. Burial will be at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers will be Bill Hail Jr., R. Joyce, Bill Morse, C.G. Turner, Kendall Moore and Ed Fuller.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home, 917 Highway 64 East, Alma.

Robert Fisher
Robert D. Fisher, 67, of Alma, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was a retired truck driver from the Dwayne Higgins Trucking Co.
Graveside service was held Oct. 29 at Dyer Cemetery in Dyer under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Fisher of Fort Smith; a son, Tommy Fisher of Altus, Okla.; and five grandchildren.
Doris Rice
Doris Jean Rice, 61, of Alma, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at a local hospital. He was retired from the revenue office and a member of Kibler United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Stewart and Robin Grimmett, both of Alma; a son, Shannon Riddle of Alma; a sister, Glenda Leathers of Quinlan, Texas; two brothers, Richard Gifford and Bruce Gentry, both of Van Buren; and four grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Oct. 28 at Kibler United Methodist Church with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Tyrell Riddle, Lance Stewart, Jeff Gifford, Stanley Grimmett, Roy Rogers and Leslie Van Matre.
Myrtle Jones
Myrtle Jones, 82, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of Crawford County. She was the widow of Albert Jones.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Jorgenson of Fort Smith; a stepdaughter, Mary Sue Scott of California; three sons, Paul Jones of Alma, James Lovett of Kibler and William Lovett of Kribs, Okla.; two stepsons, Franklin Jones of Oildale, Calif., and Hubert Jones of Witcherville; a sister, Ellen Kilmer of Oklahoma City; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held Oct. 30 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Justin Lovett, Ronnie Cox, Henry Cox and Darrell, Larry and Ronnie Lingo. Honorary pallbearers were B.J. Buerger and David Jones.
Vivian Stone
Vivian Stone, 72, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, in Alma. She was a retired retail clerk for Safeway Stores Inc.
He is survived by her husband, Bobby; a sister, Carol McGuire of Branson, Mo.; a brother, Denton Ingram of Nixa, Mo.; two nieces, Melissa McGuire of Chicago and Debbie Singleton of Springfield, Mo.; and one nephew, Jeff McClure of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Funeral service was held Dec. 6 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were M.L. “Buck” Summers, Jess, Heath and Eric Spence, Edward Turner, Eugene Cantrel and Ben Lairamore.

Imogene Leftwich
Imogene Leftwich, 76, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Van Buren. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ in Alma.
Survivors include her husband, Junior; four daughters, Carolyn Ann Brown of Spiro, Sandra Lee Riley and Deborah Joy Riley, both of Van Buren, and Vicki Lynn Allen of Fort Smith; one son, Anthony Wayne Leftwich of Conway; one sister, Veda Mae Wolf of Wheatland, Mo.; three brothers, Jim Walker of Alma, Kenneth Walker of St. Louis and Bill Walker of Pineville, La.; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 7 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial was at Alma Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were family members.

Gertie Gilpin
Gertie Gilpin, 97, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a charter member of the Kibler Road Church of God, a homemaker and widow of Edgar Gilpin. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Schulze; two sons, Vernon and Frankie Gilpin; and two grandsons, Michael Keeler and Steve Gilpin.
Survivors include four daughters, Alice Clayton of Lakeland, Fla., Dorothy Johnson of Van Buren, Bonnie Davis and her husband, Layton, of Van Buren, and Barbara Knapp of Plymouth, Minn.; two sons, Charles Gilpin of Aiea, Hawaii, and Glenn Gilpin and wife, Carolett, of Spring, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Gilpin of Van Buren; one sister, Frances Long of Missouri; one brother, Jim Robinett of Brumley, Mo.; 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 7 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Randy Davis, Layton Davis Jr., Stewart Sergeant, Michael Johnson, Clay Bennett and Matt Bennett. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Pratt, Wylie Asher, Jim Morland, Lane Hurst and Gene Morse.
