Clarence Kidd Jr.
Clarence S. “Cap” Kidd Jr., 82, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002, in St. Louis, Mo. “Tuney” was a native of Van Buren and president of his senior class at Van Buren High School, where he played in the band and learned to play the bazooka from Van Buren’s favorite son, Bob Burns. After studying electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas, he joined the Allen-Bradley Co. in Milwaukee, commencing a 50-year career in electrical sales and distribution. He was the widower of Mary Lou Poindexter Kidd.
Survivors include one son, Bob Kidd of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughters, Susan Miller of Frontenac, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Kimberly and Laura Miller and Tiffany and Andy Kidd.
A memorial service was held Dec. 16 at Grace Episcopal Church in Kirkwood, Mo.

Bill Wise
Bill C. Wise, 58, of Alma, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in Alma. He was a retired supervisor for Southwest Rebuilders in Fort Smith and attended Freedom Freewill Baptist Church in Alma.
He is survived by two daughters, Micki Blount of Sallisaw and LaDonna Riley of Alma; four sisters, Wilma Neal of Alma, Margaret Gregory of Alma, Mary Hattabaugh of Pocola and Debbie Rogers of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Nov. 12 at Freedom Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Gregory Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Gerald Cook, David Dean, Frank Neal, Plez Godwin, Shane and Matt Tuck.
Donna Lewis
Donna Lewis, 85, of Van Buren, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a Sunday school teacher. She attended Trinity Baptist Church in Fort Smith and was the widow of Dick Lewis.
Graveside service was held Nov. 11 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Gayle Robertson of Van Buren; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Delmar Douglas
Delmar Douglas, 74, of Van Buren, formerly of Fort Smith, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was retired from Southwestern Bell after 30 years as a lineman. He was a member of the Access Road Church of Christ and the widower of Thula Douglas.
Graveside serivce was held No. 12 at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by two sons, Donald Douglas of Van Buren and Dwight Douglas of Mena; two brothers, Merle Douglas of Tulsa and Paul Douglas of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Velma Salyars
Velma Ruth Salyars, 96, of Alma, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home. She was a longtime resident of Alma, homemaker and widow of A.M. Salyars.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice Kuykendall of Alma and Doris Jo Stewart Robertson of Van Buren; one sister, Katie Parker of Oklahoma City; one grandson, Joe Stewart of Van Buren; and one great-grandson, Grayson Lee Stewart of Van Buren.
Graveside service was held Nov. 9 at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Sue Justice
Sue Justice, 65, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of City Heights Methodist Church in Van Buren, Daughters of American Revolution and Crawford County Genealogy Society.
Survivors include her husband, Bill; two daughters, Cindy of Lowell and Joanna of the home; two sons, Daryl of Fort Smith and Ken of Rogers; one brother, Ed Shepherd of Muskegon, Mich.; and five grandchildren, Adam, Jason, Chris, Shannon and Keslyn.
Funeral service was held Nov. 11 at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Cedarville.
Pallbearers were Cindy, Ken and Jason Justice, Daryl Justice, Ed Shepherd and Don Justice. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Talking Leaves Chapter of the Oklahoma DAR.
Peggy Scott
Peggy Lou Scott, 69, of Alma, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2002, at a local hospital. She attended Fair Christian Center in Alma, was a keypunch operator for Ruan Transport and a former resident of Mitchellville, Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Max Scott; one daughter, LaAnn Jean Richardson of Deer Park, Texas; two sisters, Laura Moeller and Norma VanGundy, both of Iowa; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery at Alma under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mark Richardson, Daniel Richardson, Vern Ostrander, Matthew Ostrander, Mark Ostrander, Luke Ostrander and Mark Cater. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Faith Christian Center.
Ruth Kelly
Ruth Kelly, 78, of Alma, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and attended the Full Gospel Church in Moffett.
She is survived by two sons, Dwain Kelly of Mountainburg and James Kelly of Muldrow; three sisters, Ruby McCain of Mulberry, Sue McDowlett of Oklahoma City and Margaret Shreck of Ellewood, Kan.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held Oct. 22 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
Pallbearers were Dennis Osman, Mark, Frank, John Ralph and Buddy Kelly and Eddie Watson.
