Dan Trice
Dan Y. Trice, 89, of Roland, formerly of Van Buren, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired corporate office manager for the Hobart Company in Troy, Ohio, a Baptist and a Mason for more than 50 years. He was the preceded in death by his first wife, Senorah.
Survivors include his wife, Macie; two daughters, Jo Franklin and Benita Huddleston, both of Van Buren; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 21 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Judy Tallman
Judy Tallman, 59, of Alma, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a retired office manager for a chiropractic clinic.
Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Farra of Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; a son, Darrell Guynes of West Covina, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Theresa Kemp of Wildomar, Calif., Bretta DeMarco of Aurora, Ill., and Leslie Vanduesen of Mission Viejo, Calif.; her mother, Maggie Caggianesi of Alma; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. The body was cremated.
Marjorie Meyer
Marjorie M. Meyer, 83, of Van Buren, formerly of Mountainburg, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002. She was a member of the Mountainburg Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Paul.
Survivors include three daughters, Letha Wells, of Tyler, Texas, Lois Matsler of Charleston and Carl Meyer of Mountainburg; a sister, Gladys Woodworth; nine grandchildren and six great -grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Aug. 19 at Conley Cemetery in Mountainburg. Cremation was under the direction of Smith Mortuary in Charleston.
Renna Lewers
Renna Lee Lewers, 88, of Alma, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was the former co-owner and operator of Lewers Grocery and Hardware for more than 30 years, and she was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Alma.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Lewers; a son, Joe Lee Lewers of Alma; and two grandchildren, Deena Jo Winn and Lee Lewers, both of Alma, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Aug. 20 at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Joe Dan Byars, Jan Nordin, Guy Wilson, Tommy Wilson, Jim Ogilve and Billy Winn.
Susann Moses
Susann Linda Moses, 48, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002. She was a homemaker.
No services are scheduled. The body was cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Survivors include a daughter, Amy Duncan of Van Buren; two sisters, Dolores Chandler of Greenbriar and Tanya Coram of Van Buren; a brother, Norman Hopkins of Alma; a grandchild, Breanna Moses of Van Buren.
Floyd Shaw
Floyd Lavelle Shaw, 71, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was railroad clerk for Union Pacific Railroad for 31 years.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a daughter, Kim Carter of Van Buren; four sons, Keith and Kelly Shaw, both of Van Buren, Kyle Shaw of Fort Smith and Kurt Shaw of Chester; two stepsons, Kevin Mobley of McAlester and Brian Mobley of Charlotte, N.C.; three sisters, Marilyn Ivy of New Madrid, Mo., Faye Shaw of St. Louis and Eula Beck of Michigan; a brother, Gilbert Shaw of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Nov. 1 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Brian and Kevin Mobley, Nick and Don Carter and Kurt and Kyle Shaw.
John Newton
John Newton, 87, of Alma, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired truck driver for Twin City Auto Salvage and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Faulkner of Greenwood and Joyce Elliot of Alma; two sons, Jimmy Newton of Alma and Delmar Newton of Choctaw, Okla.; 11 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hall Cemetery Arbor under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Darryl Newton, Steve Faulkner, Kenneth Faulkner, Randy Elliot, Donald Elliot, Paul Newton and Johnny Newton.
Elizabeth Carlson
Elizabeth Ann Carlson, 65, of Alma, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired administrative assistant with Hughes Aircraft, member of New Heights Baptist Church in Alma and River Valley Master Gardeners and an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Teresa Washington of Mulberry; a son, James Kelley of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Jane Stephens and Katherine Carlson, both Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Catherine Harris of Keota; two brothers, Robert Merrick of Kansas City, Mo., and Clifford Harris of Cypress, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 26 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Perkinson, Michael Gaither, Jeremy and Jordan Shores, Michael and Glen Tabor.
