Alice Lack
Alice M. Lack, 92, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Van Buren and a retired LPN for Sparks Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy.
Survivors include two daughters, Tommie Roberson of Downey, Calif., and Martha Beam of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Steinsiek and Aileen Monday, both of Van Buren, and Vashtie McCrary of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial of cremains will be at Gracelawn Cemetery.
Leoma Webb
Leoma May Webb, 88, of Alma, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Bogner of Clarkston, Mich.; two sons, Marvin and William Webb, both of Alma; a sister and brother, both of Indiana; four grandchildren, Cyndi McKnight, Cheryl Ferguson, Vernetta Lipka and Debbie Barker; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was held Aug. 23 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. The body was cremated.
George Moses
George A. Moses, 85, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002. He was retired from Wards Furniture Factory.
Survivors include two daughters, Maudie Gross of Rudy and Shirley Carter of Van Buren; two sons, Jay Moses of Muldrow and Roger Moses of Van Buren; a stepdaughter, Brenda Nye of Ratcliff; three stepsons, Stanley, Danny and Ricky Grimmett, all of Van Buren; four sisters, Bonnie Tipton of Alma, Mae Cook of Natural Dam, Geneva Bowen of Springdale and Arlene Mongold of Cedarville; a brother, Jeff Moses of Kibler; 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 23 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was held at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam.
Pallbearers were Stanley and Ricky Grimmett, Lance Bradford and Randy and Chris Jerrigan.
Virginia Hughes
Virginia Lee Hughes, 75, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Victory Temple Pentecostal Church in Van Buren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Turner of Van Buren; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside service was held Sept. 4 at Gracelawn Arbor in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Bill Love
Bill Love, 82, of Alma, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired furniture worker from Riverside Furniture and a member of Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Alma.
Survivors include his wife, Ila; two daughters, Linda Sill of Alma and Kathy Martin of Huntsville; four sons, Joey Love of Rock Island and Tim Love, Stevey Love and James Rackley, all of Alma; two sisters, Mae Cawthon of Van Buren and Lea Leftwich of Raymondville, Texas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sept. 3 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Love Cemetery in Alma.
Henry Crowley
Henry Crowley, 71, of Anthony, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at a Kansas hospital. He was a retired, self-employed contractor and a Lutheran.
Survivors include two sisters, Wanda Patucci of Baltimore and Janie Porter of Muldrow; and a brother, R.J. Crowley of Seattle.
Graveside service was held Sept. 4 at Oliver Springs Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Leda Likens
Leda Volene Likens, 77, of Van Buren, formerly of Scranton, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Scranton. She was a retired LPN, a member of City Heights Methodist Church in Van Buren, the Eastern Star, American Legion Post No. 31 and Disabled American Veterans.
Funeral service was held Aug. 27 at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith. Graveside service was held at Prairie View Cemetery in Prairie View.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Mahar and husband, Charles “Sonny” Mahar, Rachel Turman and husband, Robert “Danny” and Beverly Fisher, all of Van Buren; three sisters, Freda Goolsbee of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Sue Waldon and Betty Lowe, both of Scranton; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Pat and Chuck Mahar, Rick, David and Mark Turman and Brian Fisher.
Elizabeth Carlson
Elizabeth Ann Carlson, 65, of Alma, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired administrative assistant with Hughes Aircraft, member of New Heights Baptist Church in Alma and River Valley Master Gardeners and an associate member of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Teresa Washington of Mulberry; a son, James Kelley of Fort Smith; two stepdaughters, Jane Stephens and Katherine Carlson, both Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Catherine Harris of Keota; two brothers, Robert Merrick of Kansas City, Mo., and Clifford Harris of Cypress, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 26 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. Burial was at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Perkinson, Michael Gaither, Jeremy and Jordan Shores, Michael and Glen Tabor.
