Alice Lack
Alice M. Lack, 92, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a lifelong member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Van Buren and a retired LPN for Sparks Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy.
Survivors include two daughters, Tommie Roberson of Downey, Calif., and Martha Beam of Fort Smith; three sisters, Mary Steinsiek and Aileen Monday, both of Van Buren, and Vashtie McCrary of Lubbock, Texas; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial of cremains will be at Gracelawn Cemetery.
Leoma Webb
Leoma May Webb, 88, of Alma, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Bogner of Clarkston, Mich.; two sons, Marvin and William Webb, both of Alma; a sister and brother, both of Indiana; four grandchildren, Cyndi McKnight, Cheryl Ferguson, Vernetta Lipka and Debbie Barker; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was held Aug. 23 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. The body was cremated.
George Moses
George A. Moses, 85, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, . He was retired from Wards Furniture Factory.
Survivors include two daughters, Maudie Gross of Rudy and Shirley Carter of Van Buren; two sons, Jay Moses of Muldrow and Roger Moses of Van Buren; a stepdaughter, Brenda Nye of Ratcliff; three stepsons, Stanley, Danny and Ricky Grimmett, all of Van Buren; four sisters, Bonnie Tipton of Alma, Mae Cook of Natural Dam, Geneva Bowen of Springdale and Arlene Mongold of Cedarville; a brother, Jeff Moses of Kibler; 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 23 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was held at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam.
Pallbearers were Stanley and Ricky Grimmett, Lance Bradford and Randy and Chris Jerrigan.
Cynthia Morse
Cynthia Haney Morse, 31, of Alma, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at her home. She was a former cosmetologist and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Shannon; a daughter, Shanna Morse of the home; her mother and stepfather, Sharon and Ron Scamardo Sr. of Fort Smith; a brother, Kevin Haney of Greenwood; and two stepbrothers, Ron Scamardo Jr. of Greenwood and John Scamardo of Fort Smith.
Funeral service was held July 13 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at Pope Cemetery near Mountainburg.
Pallbearers were James and Jay Baker, Harold and Alan Haney, Brian Redding and Ron Scamardo Jr.
Matthew Walker
Matthew Odell Walker, 80, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Boeing Aircraft in California and a member of Shibley Baptist Church in Van Buren.
Funeral service was held July 12 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark. Burial was at Cemetery Ridge Cemetery in Ozark.
Survivors include three sisters, Fannie Shaw and Melba Bonds, both of Ozark, and Luella Shaw of Ratcliff.
Pallbearers were Kello and Ricky Shaw, Mike, T.J. and Bobby Dale Walker and Jack and Earl Bonds.
Robert McClurg
Robert Gene McClurg, 56, of Van Buren, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a co-pastor of the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church and a machinist for Baldor Electric.
Survivors include his wife, Ona; two sons, Bobby McClurg of Oklahoma and Roger McClurg of Muldrow; a stepdaughter, Mary Barnett of Van Buren; a stepson, Lonnie Aikins of Mountainburg; his mother, Neva Ross of Gore; three sisters, Ann Hayes, Janet Duger and JoAnn Smith, all of Gore; seven brothers, Don, Dick, John, Jerry and Bud Ross, all of Oklahoma, Earl Ross of Louisiana and Steve McClurg of Oklahoma; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held July 20 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Locke Cemetery near Mountainburg.
Pallbearers were Chad Aikins, Lonnie Aikins Jr., John Ross, Bud Ross, Ricky Odom and Terry Sharp.
Gene Dooly
Gene Dooly, 65, of Alma, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a teacher for Fort Smith Christian School.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie; a daughter, Rene Brogdon of Dublin, Ga.; a son, Roy Dooly of Fort Smith; a brother, Karl Dooly of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Cole and Gabe Brogdon.
Funeral service was held July 20 at First Baptist Church in Alma. Burial was at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
William Fitzer
William Sam Fitzer, 47, of Van Buren, died Sunday, July 7, 2002. He was a member of Zion Baptist Church of Van Buren.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; two daughters, Angela and Shawna; his parents, William and Clarice Fitzer of Van Buren; a sister, Sonya Kay Goodwin of Van Buren; two brothers, Carl and Dale Fitzer, both of Van Buren.
Graveside service was held July 10 at Lona Valley Cemetery under the direction of Malory Funeral Home of Spiro. Pallbearers were Steve Greene, David Skaggs, Larry Wright, Larry Clinton Wright and Joe and James Fitzer.
