Buster Keifer
Buster Keifer, 92, of Van Buren, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church and a retired carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freida.
Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne Pfeifer of Tulsa, Okla.; one son, Harry Keifer of Van Buren; one brother, Jack Keifer of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Ashlee and Lindsey Pfeifer of Tulsa and Harry K. Keifer Jr. of Overland Park, Kan., and Michael Keifer of Van Buren; two great-grandchildren, Taylor of Overland Park, Kan., and Lorelei of Van Buren.
Graveside service was held July 22 at Dyer City Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Helen Hauser
Helen Hauser, 86, of Van Buren, formerly of Waterbury, Conn., died Friday, July 19, 2002. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Frank.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Feist of Phoenix and Margaret of Southbury, Conn.; one son, Kenneth F. Hauser of Van Buren; a sister, Dorothy Woodfield of Waterbury, Conn.; a brother, Sonny Houseknecht of Waterbury; and eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The body will be cremated with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Geneva J. Haywood
Geneva Haywood, 83, of Alma, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired nurse at Sequoyah Medical in Springville, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Haywood of Porterville, Calif., and Jim Haywood of Alma; five grandchildren, Archella Willhite, Connie Haywood and Karen Armstrong, all of Alma, Mark Haywood of Van Buren and William Haywood of Pragueczech Republic; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers will be Larry Nixon, Clinton Nixon, Bobby Nixon, Greg Neuhart, Jason Neuhart and Justin Neuhart.
Bobby Cruise
Bobby George Cruise, 57, of Alma, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired farmer, was with the National Guard for seven years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; six daughters, Sue Mahan of Roland, Bobbie Sills of Plano, Texas, Samantha Scarbrough of Barling, Donnita Paudue, Jean Blythe and Loretta Pardue, all of Alma; a son, Russell Drewery of Alma; two brothers, Tony Cruise of Van Buren and Tommy Cruise of Sacramento, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Aug. 12 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was held at Arbuckle Island Cemetery near Lavaca.
Pallbearers were Brandon Blythe, Steven Pardue, Shawn Hobson, Jerry Green, Rick Thompson, Tim Mahan, Roy Rogers and Jimmy Don Gooch.
Joe Moore
Joe E. Moore of Van Buren, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, in local hospital. He was born in Parnell, Mo., on Nov. 24, 1928. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a civilian with the Army as an employee development specialist. He had a master’s degree in education from Chapman College in Orange, Calif., and a master’s degree in Bible from Landmark Baptist College in Sacramento, Calif. Joe had many years of experience teaching Bible and also secular subjects.
The funeral was held Aug. 13 at First Baptist Church in Van Buren, where Joe was a member. The burial was held at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Joe is survived by his wife, Verna Marie; a son, Michael of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y.; four sisters, Nellie Engle of Story, Orva Davis of Murietta, Calif., Dorothy Coleman of Van Buren and Bonnie Moore of Arkoma; two brothers, Harold Collins of Saint Joseph, Mo. and Douglas Moore of Citrus Heights, Calif.
Pallbearers were members of Joe’s High School Graduating Class, Reeves Dillon, Conley O’Kelley, Rudolph Coleman, Howard Gentry, Odell Brown and John L. Brown.

George Scroggins
George Wilbern Scroggins, 90, of Van Buren, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, in his home. He was a farmer and a retired long distance truck driver for Allied Van and the Farmers Co-op. He also supervised German War Prisoners at Ogden, Utah, during World War II. Mr. Scroggins is the son of the late Ollie and Elsie Clark Scroggins.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at City Heights United Methodist Church with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Taylor Scroggins of the home; a daughter, Patricia Scroggins Ruden of Shorewood, Ill.; a son, James Scroggins of Van Buren; three sisters, Lovella Duhn of Cedar Springs, Mich., Lela Brents of Benton and Reatha Blaylock of Iuka, Miss.; four brothers, Clyde Scroggins of Hope, O.C., Henry and A.Z. Scroggins, all of Benton; five grandchildren, Eric, Greg Ruden, Jennifer Madson of Naperville, Ill., Dixie and Sandra Scroggins of Van Buren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Whittington, David Broadrick, Jack Khilling, Skip Kelley, James Gibbs, James Edwin Lloyd, Eric and Greg Ruden.
Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Thorman, Moda Harris, Bob Vandergriff, W.J. Rimmer, Everett Howard, Kenneth Pugh, Earl Hughes and Fred Thorman.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Macie Lankford
Macie Jo Lankford, 81, of Van Buren, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a life-long resident of Crawford County and a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle.
Survivors include one brother, Doyal Evans of Van Buren; three nieces, Jo Frances McGrew and Janice Evans, both of Van Buren and Jackie Evans of South Pasadena, Calif.; and three nephews, Billy Loyd Evans, Jim Evans and Lonnie Evans, all of Van Buren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial will be held at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Anthony McGrew, Bo Evans, Sean Evans, Jamey Evans, Michael Morrison and Jim Gooch Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Iris June Ramsey, Hilda Jean Watkins, Sharon Martindale, Velma Robinson, Mary Smith, Kathleen Barnes, Evora Bates, Hazel Moore, Betty Stockton and Ruth Marie Crawford.
