LeRoy Harris
LeRoy Harris, 82, of Van Buren, died Sunday, May 26, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a member of Church of God (Seventh Day) and was a retired truck driver for Allen Canning Co. in Van Buren.
Survivors include his wife, Anna; a daughter, Peggy Harris of Van Buren; three sons, Dennis Harris of Van Buren, Gary Harris of Rogers and Larry Harris of Pocola; two sisters, Elsie Cone and Myrtle Carr, both of Merced, Calif.; two brothers, Ralph Johnson of Merced, Calif., and Bill Johnson of Mount Ida; six grandchildren, Eric Harris, Shelley Kolb, Daren Harris, Aaron Harris, Marla Harris and James Harris; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held May 28 at Gill Cemetery Pavilion under the direction of Edward Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Eric, Daren, Aaron and James Harris and James Kolb.
Althea Dorsey
Althea Dorsey, 88, of Alma, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Claude.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary LaRue of Alma and Kitty Dorsey of Georgetown, Texas; three sons, Claude Lyndon Dorsey of Concord, Calif., Wayne Alan Dorsey of Fort Smith and Glen Harris Dorsey Olatha, Kan.; one brother, Elroy E. Harris of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren, Hope Cook, Daniel, Jonathan and William Morris, Stephanie Dorsey-Grimm and Angela Dorsey; and three great-grandchildren, Maggie Dorsey-Grimm and Bethany and Isabella Cook.
Graveside service was held May 28, at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Daniel, Jonathan and William Morris, LeRoy Cook and Paul Lampack.
Doyle Lankford
Doyle Lankford, 82, of Van Buren, died Friday, May 24, 2002, at a local hospital. He was retired from the Union Pacific Railroad and was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
Survivors include his wife, Macie Jo; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Bill Lloyd Evans, Lonnie Evans, Jim Evans, Tommy McGrew, Anthony McGrew and Charles Edward Stockton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Campbell, Bill Vickery, Jimmy Don Gooch, Billy Ross Bryan, Otis Arnold and Earl Muck.
Charles Lewis
Charles Donald “Chuck" Lewis, 57, formerly of Van Buren, died Monday, June 3, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nev. A resident of Crawford County for most of his life, he was a retired Army dental specialist.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Lewis of Las Vegas; two sisters, Marcia Craig and Vickie McFadden, both of Van Buren, two brothers, Oscar Lewis Jr. of Van Buren and Rick Lewis of Fayetteville; his ex-wife and friend Lien Koettel of Las Vegas; three nieces and six nephews.
Private service was held in Las Vegas under the direction of Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society. A memorial service will be held in Van Buren at a later date with burial at the U. S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Stella Jones
Stella Mae Jones, 86, of Van Buren, died Monday, June 10, 2002. She was a homemaker, a cook supervisor for Van Buren Public Schools and a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren. She was the widow of Olen Jones.
Survivors include two sons, Gary and Jim Jones, both of Van Buren; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held June 12 at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Louise Bryan
Louise Bryan, 78, of Alma, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Samuel; two daughters, Joyce L. Smith of Van Buren and Shirley A. Hudson of Alma; a sister, Thelma Dutton of Butte LaRosa, La.; a brother, Edward Hobson of Kibler; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held June 10 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. Burial was held at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Steven Coppinger, Jay Brandes, Roger Jones, Tommy Stratton, Larry and Roger Hobson.
Margie Belt
Margie Belt, 75, of Van Buren, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at her home. She was a homemaker, of the Baptist faith and the widow of Idus Belt.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Belt and Neal Belt, both of Van Buren; a brother, Carl Rhodes of California; six grandchildren, Rodney Belt of Fort Smith, Craig Belt of Ozark, Chris Belt of Alma and Kimberly Belt, Angela Graham and Tiffany Armer, all of Van Buren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held June 10 with burial at National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Chris, Dennis and Darrell Belt, Gerald Graham, Michael Armer and Michael Klober.
