Edna Hill
Edna Mae Hill, 101, of Alma, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a retired lunchroom worker for Alma school district and a member of First Baptist Church of Alma.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Hill of Alma and Harold “PID” Hill of Van Buren; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 7 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial was at Peters Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Pallbearers were Merle Hill, Harold Hill, Doug Hill, Tom Hill, Don Hill and Ronnie Allen.
General Reeves
General G. Reeves, 93, of Alma, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was a retired maintenance man for Coffee Furniture Manufacturing in Fort Smith and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Pauline Phelps of Alma, Darlene Trimble of Van Buren and Theresa Roberts of Dyer; two sons, George Reeves of Van Buren and Gerald Reeves of Alma; 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Kibler Methodist Church. Burial will be held at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Linton McGhee Jr.
Linton Roy McGhee Jr., 79, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired machine operator for Allen Canning Company of Van Buren, a Baptist and a Disabled American Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi; a son, Paul McGhee of Porter, Texas; two sisters, Armitta Willson of Mulberry and Betty Brewer of Alma; two brothers, Buddy McGhee of Van Buren and Donald McGhee of Pomona, Calif.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held June 28 at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Elizabeth Sargent
Elizabeth Sargent, 93, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired bookkeeper for Dyke Brothers Lumber Company.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside service was held June 29 at Sarah Grove Cemetery in Figure Five Community under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Jim and Leon Sargent, Joel, Troy and Roy Jordan.
Lorena Kuykendall
Lorena Mae Kuykendall, 72, of Alma, died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, member of the First Baptist Church of Alma and past Worthy Matron for Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Jewel Don; two sons, Gary Don Kuykendall of McAllen, Texas, and Robin Kuykendall of Mountainburg; one sister, Laura and Don Watson of Stuttgart; two brothers, Don Spillman of Van Buren and Clifton Spillman of Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren, Shawn Kuykendall, Lindsey Dodds, Ashleigh Kuykendall and Blake Kuykendall; one great-grandchild Adrie Elizabeth Dodds; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held April 27 at First Baptist Church of Alma. Burial was at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were DeWayne Hanna, Ronnie Hanna, Tommy Leverette, Bill Leverette, James Adams, Don Adams, Jerry Osborne and Randy Deleat.

Fern Settle
Fern O. Settle, 86, of Van Buren, died Sunday, April 28, at a local hospital. She was a retired employee of Kay Chair Co., a member of New Hope Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William.
Survivors include five daughters, Sue Burkhalter and Delores Mikkelson, both of San Antonio, Texas, Patricia Faldon of Plano, Texas, and Gerry Rood and Ann Farrington, both of Lindale, Texas; a son, David Settle of Van Buren; a sister, Joyce Scales of Van Buren; 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 30 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.
James Bailey
James Doyle Bailey, 86, of Van Buren, died Friday, April 26, 2002. He was retired from U.S. Rubber Tire Company in East Los Angeles, Calif., after 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Bailey; two sons, Don Bailey of Cypress, Calif., and Jerry Bailey of Van Buren; one sister, Nina Forehand of Owasso, Okla.; five grandchildren, Cindi Schneider of Fullerton, Calif., Brian Bailey of Covina, Calif., Brent Bailey of Menton, Calif., Steve Bailey of Santa Maria, Calif., and Scott Bailey of Scotts Valley, Calif.
Funeral service was held May 1 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Darrell Bailey, Bill Rogers, Paul Brant, Brent Bailey, Brian Bailey and Jerry Hill.
Elma Guinn
Rev. Elma Allen Guinn, 85, of Van Buren, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at his home. He was a retired Baptist minister who pastored several churches in Arkansas and Texas, a World War II veteran and member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sisters, Cladie Nix and Vaundane Guinn, both of Lamesa, Texas; one brother, Dr. L. Chester Guinn of Van Buren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held May 1 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Kyle, Guinn, Nathan Guinn, John Furlow, David Furlow, Walter Fisher, Cecil Costner, Harold Griffin and Larry Guinn.
