Timothy McCoy
Timothy Alan McCoy, 36, of Alma, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at a local hospital. He was an employee of Allen Canning Co. for 13 years and of the Assembly of God faith. He was born Sept. 13, 1996, in Van Buren.
Survivors include his wife, Lateshia McCoy; his mother, Geraldine McCoy of Fern; father, Buck McCoy of Mulberry; one sister, Connie Westbrook of Ratcliff; one brother, David McCoy of Van Buren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Feb. 28 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial was at Nichols Chapel Cemetery in Franklin County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Jackey Franklin, Garry Franklin, Bryan Nichols, Devin Fancler, Dalton Bundy and Dusty Franklin. Honorary pallbearers were Herman Walls, Bobby Walls, Joe Nichols and Bud Frees.
Minnie Brammer
Minnie Catherine “Rusty” Brammer, 75, of Van Buren, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a member of the 81 Freewill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, a retired machine operator for Dixie Cup, and a member of the local 5-0656 PACE International Union.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Meadors of Alma, Patricia Willis of Ridgedale, Mo., and Carol Webb of Franklin, N.C.; three sons, Richard Hicks of Alma, Jim Hicks of Bald Knob and Dennis Brammer of Van Buren; two brothers, Henry Stevenson of Dennison, Texas, and Thomas Stevenson of Lubbock, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service was held March 2 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. The body was cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
James King
James Richard “Ricky” King, 24, of Alma, died July 13, 1997. He was a member of the Graphic New Hope Baptist Church and a construction worker.
Survivors include one daughter, Kelly Carter of Mountainburg; mother and stepfather, Harold and Dianna Pointer of Alma; one sister, Becky Brown of Alma; and three brothers, Steve Weaver of Van Buren, Matthew Pointer and Jeff Pointer, both of Alma.
Funeral service was held March 4 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial was at Pope Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Virginia Mahan
Virginia “Blossom” Mahan, 86, of Alma, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was born Jan. 8, 1917, in Spadra. She was a 1935 graduate of Coal Hill High School, a member of Church of Christ, a Sunday school teacher and a volunteer at Sparks Regional Medical Center for several years.
Funeral service was held March 6 at Alma Church of Christ with burial at Hess Cemetery in Coal Hill under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
She is survived by her husband, Johnny; a daughter, Layne Downs of Fort Smith; two sons, Buddy Mahan of Muskogee and Butch Mahan of Alma; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Margaret Riordan
Margaret Ann Riordan, 61, passed away on the morning of March 9, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret, daughter of Robert Woodrow Amos and Hannah McCleary-Hutchison, was born March 6, 1942.
Margaret attended the Cambridge schools, graduating from high school in 1960. She graduated from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio, in 1964 with a B.A. degree in English. She received a scholarship to Colgate-Rochester Divinity School, Rochester, N.Y., and graduated with a master’s degree in religious education in 1966. Margaret was a religious education director in Rochester following her marriage Aug. 26, 1966. She later taught children with special needs in Atlanta and taught special education and first grade at Cedarville for a few years. The greater portion of her time was spent at home in Natural Dam taking care of her family.
She is survived by her parents; her husband, Michael E. Riordan; her children, Amos Riordan and wife Paula, John Michael Riordan and Hannah Margaret Riordan; and her granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Riordan. She also is survived by her sister, Sarah Elizabeth Amos Ball and husband, Steven; and her niece, Katherine Ann Ball of Columbus, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Cedarville with burial at Hall Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren. A family memorial service will be held in Cambridge, Ohio, at a later date.
Pallbearers were Amos Riordan, John Riordan, David Roberts, Mike Spencer, Ruben Miller and Frank Workman. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy Hager and Grady Glass.
Delmar Kerby
Delmar Kerby, 81, of Van Buren, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at a local nursing home. He was born in Saskatchewan Handley, Canada, and was a retired self-employed carpenter.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Baldwin of Redford, Mich., and Judy Kerby of Flint, Mich.; two sons, Jerry Kerby of St. Augustine, Fla., and Jeff Kerby of Camarillo, Calif.; two sisters, Donna Bowman of Detroit, Mich., and Norma Holiday of Texas; one brother, Nathan Kerby of Van Buren; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Bessie Gulley
Bessie Bell Gulley, 84, of Van Buren, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and the widow of Roy Gulley.
Funeral service was held Feb. 24 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Sarah Grove Cemetery in Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Eddy of Van Buren, Jo Thompson of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Francis Welch of Stockton, Calif.; a son, Roy Gulley of Fort Smith; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
