Alene Jones
Alene Jones, 75, of Cedarville, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at her home. She was a retired employee of Simmons Food in Van Buren, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; a daughter, Bobbie Hale of Dallas; three sons, Richard Jones of Alma, Harry Douglas Jones of Muldrow and Robert Hank Jones of Rudy four sisters; one brother; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held Nov. 8 at Gracelawn Cemetery Arbor in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Billy Hunter, Mike Nowotny, Richard Johnson, James Richardson, Mike Taylor and Ed Kemp.
Isaac Alexander
Isaac Nelson Alexander, 74, of Alma, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired machine operator, Navy veteran of World War II and a Freewill Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Ann; one daughter, Kay Huffman of Richwood, Texas; two sons, Larry Alexander of Van Buren and Danny Alexander of Alma; three sisters, Nadine White of Van Buren, Francis Mueller of Sheboygan, Wis., and Joe T. Alexander of Van Buren; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 20 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Randy King, Joe Alexander, Michael Alexander, Tommy Wilson, Curtis Carney and Garry Bull. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth McCormick, Mack Woody and Frank Neal.
Hoyt James
Hoyt James, 90, of Alma, died Friday, March 15, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was a retired self-employed farmer and fruit trader, Army veteran of Word War II and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred.
Survivors include one sister, Marie Helmert of Altus; and one brother, Curtis James of Amarillo.
Graveside service was held March 18 at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
I.D. Burgett
I.D. Burgett, 73, of Cedarville, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a lifetime member of the National Rilfe Association, a member of Teamsters Local No. 959 and a retired truck driver for Yellow Freight Systems.
Graveside service was held Nov. 1 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita; two daughters, Jacque Clem of Mulvane, Kan., and Leisa Bennett of Balko, Okla.; a son, Michael Burgett of Van Buren; two sisters, Ila Love of Mountain Grove and Jo Boswell of Mulvane, Kan.; a brother, W.J. Burgett of Van Buren; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Francis Terry
Francis Jones Terry, 45, of Van Buren, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a secretary for Specialty Woodworks in Van Buren, member of the Bingo Club and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Terry; one daughter, Channing Henderson of Fort Smith; one son, Robert Lee Wofford of Fort Smith; one sister, Kathy Crossno of Fort Smith; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 20 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Cross Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Tim Terry, Brian Allred, Leonard Seheumack, Jason Henderson, Bob Wofford and Robert McDole.
Opal Self
Opal Marie Self, 76, of Van Buren, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a beautician and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Self.
Survivors include one son, Bob Merchant of Van Buren; one granddaughter, Kelly Metts of Rowlett, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Colby Tyler Roberson and Noah Merchant Hinkle; one sister, Mildred Faulkenberry of Poteau.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Owen Jones
Owen Jones, 56, of Mountainburg, died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a former employee of Action Rooter and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include one daughter, Edriss Tackett of Bokoshe, Okla.; one sister, Barbara Nepple of Jacksonville; one brother, Tommy Jones of Fort Smith; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cluck, Ricky Cluck, Ralph Bogner, David Shepherd and Jackie McMaster.
J.D. Rowland
J.D. “Jake” Rowland, 68, of Cedarville, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2002, near Natural Dam. He was of the Assembly of God faith and a farmer.
Survivors include four sisters, Jewell Gamble of Little Rock, Margie Curtis and Nellie Miller, both of Farmersville, Calif., and Shirley Ipox of Exeter, Calif.; and one brother, Darrell Rowland of Farmersville.
Graveside service was held Dec. 16 at Reed Cemetery near Story, Ark., under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Earl Swaim, T.J. Brown, Richard Emberton, Jamie Marion, James Parmenter, Keith Willett and Jeff Edwards.
