Fines Allen
Fines E. Allen, 79, of Cedarville, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at his home. He was a retired shipping/receiving supervisor for Gerber Co. He also had worked for the Forestry Service and the Civil Conservation Corps. He was a member of the Shamrock Community Church and attended the Cedarville Senior Citizens Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene; two daughters, Dena Gray of Portland, Ore., and Linda Jones of Fort Smith; a stepdaughter, Pat Edwards of Chester; three sons, Jerry Allen of Van Buren, Emery Allen of Kibler and Nathan Allen of Fort Smith; five stepsons, Jeff Edwards of Chester, Johnny Edwards of Uniontown and Gary Edwards of Fort Smith and Tommy and Roger Edwards, both of Van Buren; a brother, Glen Allen of Grants Pass, Ore.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Oct. 29 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam.
Pallbearers were Chris Marion, Tommy Wells, Paul Seratt, Bobby Evans, Jerry Don Atwell and Eulis Pridgeon. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons.
Georgia Riddle
Georgia J. Riddle, 87, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired employee of Hayes & King, member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren and a supporter of City Heights United Methodist Church in Van Buren. She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1934, her daughter Joe Ellen graduated from Van Buren High School in 1954, granddaughter Becky Miller graduated from Van Buren High School in 1974 and her great-grandson Aaron Miller graduated from Van Buren High School in 1994. She is preceded in death by her husband, Orvie A. Riddle, who died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Joe Ellen and her husband, Ray Jones of Van Buren; two sisters, Almeda Tudor of Bakersfield, Calif., and Jane Warren of Collinsville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Becky and her husband, Randy Miller of Van Buren and Joe Ray and his wife, Becky Jones of Grayson, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Anna Miller, Aaron and his wife, Sherry Miller and Brandon Jones and two great-great-grandchildren, Ray and Andru Miller.
Funeral service was held March 15 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was held at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.

Roger Curry
Roger Keith Curry, 15, of Van Buren, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, in Van Buren. Roger was a student at Coleman Junior High in Van Buren where he loved to act, often joining the School’s Drama Club and performing skits at church. Basketball was one of his many loves, and Michael Jordan was his favorite player. Roger also won a three-point shooting contest at his school. He had a passion for writing and wrote numerous short stories and poems, and often edited the school papers. At age 12, Young Americans, published one of his works in the 2000 edition of the “Anthology of Poetry.”
Roger resided with and is survived by his aunt and uncle, Jay and Tammy Douglas of Van Buren; he is also survived by his mother, Cheryl L. Curry of Fayetteville; three sisters, Brittany Curry, Nicole Curry and Karyssa Curry of Fayetteville, his cousins, David Douglas, Michael Douglas, Nicholas Douglas and Tiffany Douglas, all of Van Buren; his maternal grandparents, Nancy and Gerald Lewis of Fort Smith; paternal grandparents, David and Ollie Birkett of Mukilteo, Wash., and Joe McVey of Fort Smith; uncles, Bobby Ackerman of San Diego, Calif., Dewayne Ackerman of Van Buren, Jim Curry of Arlington, Wash., and Dave Curry of Glendora, Calif. He was preceded in death by his father Roger Keith Curry, Sr., and his aunt, Summer McVey.
The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Nellie Shelly
Nellie Shelly, 75, of Rudy, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a retired lineworker for O.K. Foods, a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy Perryman, Janis Martin, Norma Chanmanivong, all of Rudy, and Cathy Mullis of Alma; three sons, John Shelly, Andy Shelly and David Shelly, all of Van Buren; one brother, Charley McKenzie of Hermiston, Ore., 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held March 14 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial was held at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Bobby Zimmerle, Ronald Westphal, Barney McNatt, Raymond Loyd, David Jarrard and Kenneth Westphal.
James Franklin
Rev. James Franklin, 84, of Van Buren, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002. He was formerly of Maple Plain, Minn. He was an electrician and attended St. Paul Bible Institutes. He was a minister in Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches for more than 50 years. He served in Wright, and Maple Plain, and Marshfield and Oconto, Wis., and Van Buren. He served on various Northwestern District committees and worked at Lake Lundgren, Big Sandy and Pinecrest Bible Camps. He assisted in beginning the chaplains program for the Greater Minneapolis Association of Evangelicals for several years. He presented seminars for Christian Financial Concepts and was instrumental in founding Compassionate Ministries in Van Buren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 17 at Maple Plain Community. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 Sunday, March 17, at Parkview Alliance Church. Burial was held at Lewis Cemetery in Maple Plain under the direction of Rettinger Funeral Home of Long Lake, Minn.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Jeanean Vineyard of Van Buren; two sons, James Franklin of Maple Plain, and the Rev. Thomas Franklin of Northfield, Minn.; six grandchildren, Todd, Jennifer, Tim, Jim III, Jonathan and Richard; and five great-grandchildren.
Terry Curtis
Terry Lynn Curtis, 44, of Alma, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002. He was a heavy equipment operator for Washington County and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include one daughter, Tanika Lavern Curtis; one son, Levi Wade Curtis; his parents, Dorece and James Curtis of Alma; two brothers, Gerald Wayne Curtis of Las Vegas, Nev., and James Edward Curtis of Alma.
Funeral service was held March 15 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was held at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were James E. Curtis, Wayne Curtis, Aaron Tash, Rex Robbins, Mike Wooldridge, Paul Matthews and Levi Curtis.
William "Bill" Sugg
William "Bill" Sugg, 80, of Cedarville, died Monday, February 14, 2005 in a local hospital. He was a retired owner/operator of ATEM, he served in WWII under the U.S. Army Air Corp, he was an avid fisherman, and a lake ranger in Bella Vista after his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Sugg; his parents, Gladys and Bill Sugg; and a grandson, Keith McHenry.
Memorial Service will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Mr. Sugg will be cremated and there will be no public viewing.
He is survived by three daughters, Kay Best of Shawnee, OK, Rev. Claudia Avery of Wichita, KS, and Linda McHenry of Cedarville, AR; one son, Mike Sugg of Norman, OK; one brother, Allen Sugg of Derby, KS; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
David Shields
David Shields, 46, of Van Buren, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a fork lift driver for Baldor Electric in Fort Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Melinda; one daughter, Melissa McCowan; one son, Drew Shields; his mother, Lois Shields of Huntington; one brother, Randy Shields of Humble, Texas; two grandchildren, Justice Arter and Dylan McCowan, both of Van Buren.
Funeral service was held March 15 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home. The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
