Harrold King
Harrold Ray King, 79, of Mulberry, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at his home. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Mulberry, worked 24 years for United Carbon Co. in Satanta, Kan., and Shamrock, Texas, and raised turkey and cattle for 27 years.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Delorise Martin of Hackett and Sharon Kay Dearmond of Harrah, Okla.; a son, Carroll King of Austin, Minn.; three sisters, Irene Bundell of Springdale, Louise Brawner of Fort Smith and Suzie Duncan of Ozark; four brothers, Jack King of Ozark, John King of Shamrock, Texas, Champ King of Mulberry and Jimmy King of Mountainburg; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Mulberry with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Ozark.
Pallbearers will be Ray Jackson, Leroy Kizer, Jim Hamilton, Jim Moore, Fred Moon and Larry Goodnoh.

Hazel Chitwood
Hazel Chitwood, 90, of Alma, formerly of Dyer, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, in Alma. She was a homemaker and widow of D.C. Chitwood.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Chitwood of Alma; one son, Scotty Chitwood of Ventura, Calif.; one sister, Ruth Mongold of Dyer; two brothers, Howard Kosier of Alma and Bob Kosier of San Antonio, Texas; one granddaughter, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial will be at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Keith and Jeremy Gregory, Joe Porter and Jimmy and Jerry Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Preston, James A. Arnold, Sam Ludington, Joe Wayne Harris and Fines Batchelor.
The family will meet with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Wayne Kennedy
Wayne E. Kennedy, 61, of Uniontown, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at a local hospital. He was owner of Kennedy Tile and Marble in Fort Smith for 36 years and was of the Nazarene faith.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Kennedy; one daughter, Gina Jeremiah of Fayetteville; one son, Terry Kennedy of Uniontown; four sisters, Lucille Caldwell of Fort Smith, Polly Coulston of Riverton, Wyoming, Peggy Putman and Beverly Todd of Kingman, Ariz.; four brothers, Tony Kennedy, Richard Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, all of Fort Smith and James Kennedy of Uniontown; and six grandchildren, Amy Jeremiah, Stephanie Jeremiah, Chris Jeremiah, Brett Kennedy, Michelle Kennedy and Kort Kennedy.
Funeral service was held Dec. 26 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at held at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Jessie Simco
Jessie Simco, 91, of Mountainburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a retired cafeteria worker for the Mountainburg School System, member of Mountainburg Presbyterian Church, lifelong resident of Crawford County and widow of Seaph Simco.
Survivors include one daughter, Patsy Goodner of Mountainburg; two sons, Jim Sico of Phoenix and Bill Simco of Memphis; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Conley Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Hayre, David Ross, Giles France, Jimmy Rogers, Gary Lee Marshall and Lanier France.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Lillard Berna
Lillard Berna, 83, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at a local nursing home. He attended Hamtown Baptist Church and was the widower of Georgia Berna.
Survivors include six daughters, Elizabeth Taylor, Barbara Price and Beverly Raper, all of Alma, Linda Pittser of Rudy, Judy Kirham of Mansfield and Teresa Wilson of Dyer; two sons, John Berna and Bobby Berna, both of Dyer; one brother, Ernest Berna of Lincoln, Neb.; 27 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Dec. 26 at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Max Ross
Max W. Ross, 97, of Van Buren, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was born in Danville, a former employee of Ward’s Furniture, a member of Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene and the widow of Leo Ross.
She is survived by three daughters, Juanita Spruill of Oklahoma City, Launita Certain of Elk City, Okla., and Virginia Sooter of Gentry; two sons, Clyde B. Ross of Alma and Earl Ross of Cookson, Okla.; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Dec. 27 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at New Berry Chapel Cemetery in Alma.
Pallbearers were Andy and Jon Ross, Jason and Joel Boen and Larry Spruill.
Gerald Campbell
Gerald Campbell, 63, of Mountainburg, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at his home. He was born in Bidville, was a cattleman and a Baptist.
He is survived by two daughters, Lee Ann Bowline and Kelly Campbell, both of Alma; three sisters, Geneva Shepherd of Sunset Community, Josephine Reed of Mountainburg and Lois Holt of Ringgold, Ga.; three brothers, Bill, Thurman and Denver Campbell, all of Locke.
Funeral service was held Dec. 26 at Locke Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Bidville Cemetery in Crawford County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Clyde and Ivan Moore, Dick Ray Douglas, Duke Campbell James Dollard, Larry Jackson and Randy Beller.
