John Porter
John William Porter, 89, of Alma, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was born in Dyer, an Army veteran of World War II, a member of Dyer Methodist Church and Disabled American Veterans and a retired farmer.
He is survived by a sister, Hazel Brown of Alma; and a brother, Stewart Porter of Alma.
Funeral service was held Dec. 26 at Locke Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Bidville Cemetery in Crawford County under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Bill Molder, Joel Dyer, J.W. and Glen Porter, Mike Brown and Claude Hatley.

Lois Hudson
Miss Lois Gale Hudson, 55, of Alma, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2002, at a local nursing home. She had been the body shop manager for Jones Nissan in Little Rock and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Alma. Miss Hudson had also served briefly in the U.S. Army.
service was held Dec. 27 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Locke Cemetery in the Locke Community near Mountainburg.
She is survived by her mother, Altha Carlton of Alma; a sister, Billie Jean Harvey of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Alfred Dwayne Hudson of Alma; an aunt, Ruby Coulter of Dyer; and four nieces and nephews, Debbie Saunders of Waldron, Robert Harvey of Winslow, Becky Lynch of Fayetteville and Kathy Jamison of Van Buren.
Ray Hoover
Ray T. Hoover, 76, of Alma, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hoover; one daughter, Sandra Mitchell of Alma; three sons, Michael, David and Billy Hoover, all of Alma; one brother, Joe Bill Hoover of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Dec. 23 at Ocker Chapel of Alma. Cremation was under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
John Hughes
John Harvey Hughes, 76, of Van Buren, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at a local nursing home. He was retired from Sparks Hospital in the laundry department, was a resident of Van Buren for the past five years, and was formerly of Muldrow and Tulsa.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia; a daughter-in-law, JoAnna Turner of Van Buren; a son, Daniel Turner of Van Buren; a brother, Elvie Hughes of Cottage Grove, Ore.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside service was held Dec. 24 at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Ruby J. Fears
Ruby J. Fears, 69, of Uniontown, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home. She was a lifelong resident of Crawford County. She was born in Rena and retired from Dixie Cup.
Survivors include her husband, J.E. Fears; one daughter, Teresa Johnson of Van Buren; four sisters, Beatrice Moore and Lois Geels, both of Fort Smith, Nancy Williams of Van Buren and Earnestine Brasher of Cedarville; one brother, Charles Brown of Springdale; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Nov. 11 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Macedonia Cemetery near Uniontown under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Melvin Williams, Jay Geels, Jim McMurray, Wilburn Fears, Vestal Wood and Bradley Williams.
Jessie Faucette
Jessie Lee Sagely Faucette, 85, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001. She was formerly of Van Buren, retired civil service employee and a member of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Faucette Sr.
Survivors include two sons, George Faucette, John Faucette, both of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Sagely Faucette of Seattle, Wash., Justin Faucette, Jenny Faucette and Christy Faucette, all of Fayetteville; one brother, Hershal Sagely of Van Buren; one sister, Norma Ruth Bradley of Little Rock and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held Dec. 24 at Central United Methodist Church. Burial was held at Fairview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Moore’s Chapel.
Nora Ward
Nora L. Ward, 83, of Hendersonville, Tenn. died in Hendersonville. She was formerly of Van Buren.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen Coscia of Grand Prairie, Texas; three sons, C. Pat Ward of Alma, Mike Ward of Hendersonville, Tenn., Jerry Ward of Warren, Rhode Island; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held in Dallas, Texas.
Madison Ryder
Madison Dawn Ryder, infant daughter of Leisa and Ted Ryder of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at a local hospital.
Other survivors include a brother, Cody Ryder of the home; paternal grandparents, Pat and Bill Haggard of Van Buren and Ted and Nancy Ryder of Madison, Wis.; maternal grandmother, Barbara Newman of Alma.
Graveside service was held Dec. 28 under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were her brother and her cousins.
