Emma Posey
Emma Lee Posey, 85, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Van Buren, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001. She was a teacher and librarian for more than 25 years. She spent the last 15 years at Van Buren High School before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Posey and was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Van Buren.
Survivors include a son, Jerry B. Posey of Lubbock and two grandchildren, Tiffany Posey and Devin Posey, both of Lubbock.
Graveside service was held Dec. 27 at Seligman Cemetery in Seligman, Mo., under the direction of Franklin Bartley Funeral Home in Lubbock. The body was cremated.
Memorial contributions may be made to your local library.

Sylvia Courtright
Sylvia Elaine Courtright, 86, of Van Buren, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at a local nursing home. She was a former resident of Sutter, Calif. and attended the First Baptist Church in Alma.
Survivors include four daughters, Sheila Graham of Van Buren, Maye Hatcher and Carol Adams, both of Vacaville, Calif., Patricia Jones of Los Nolinos, Calif.; two step-daughters, Rosie Cates of Central Point, Ore. and Clara Jean Snapp of Aripeka, Fla.; one son, Gerald Adams of California; two sisters, Abegail Teeter of South Bend, Ind. and May Paul of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Marvin Welliver of Rodeo, New Mexico; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to: The Gideons International, Alma Camp or the American Red Cross of Fort Smith.

Brenda Dyer
Brenda Irene Dyer, 60, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Kenner Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Robert Dyer; two sons, Robert Dyer Jr. of Van Buren and Jonathan Eric Dyer of Moore, Okla.; two sisters, Patricia Hansen of La Mirada, Calif., and Sandy Mayes of Van Buren; a brother, Paul Harris of Van Buren; and five grandchildren, Cathryn Nicklas of Van Buren, Carson Jane Dyer and Morgan Lee Dyer, both of Greenwood, Jessica Dyer and Samantha Dyer, both of Moore, Okla.
Funeral service was held Dec. 27 at Zion Hope No. 2 Youth Camp near Rudy. Burial was held at Woody Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Dalton Williams, Kenneth Woodall, Marvin Smith, Richard Blackabee, David Marston and Henry Howard. Honorary pallbearers were deacons.

Don Moore
Don C. Moore, 67, of Alma, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002. He was the retired owner and operator of Alma Truck Service and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Meadors of Fort Smith and Debbie Moore of Miller, Mo.; two stepdaughters; two sons, Donald Moore of Alma and Allen Moore of Mountainburg; his mother, Dema Moore of Fort Smith; a sister, Sharon Brown of Fort Smith; three brothers, Kenneth of Lavaca, Lee Moore of Hot Springs and Mike Moore of Tulsa; and numerous grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 8 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Baxley Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Wayne Moore, Al Brown, Joey Shipp, Junior Shipp, Bill Holt and Ron Moore.

Beulah Parmenter
Beulah Parmenter, 88, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and attended Dora Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Parmenter.
Survivors include a sister, Myrtle Parmenter of Van Buren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Jan. 9 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Ray Parmenter, Sambo Parmenter, David Belcher, Dwight Selman, Billy Huff and Robert Lee Parmenter.

Thelma Smith
Thelma Whitson Smith, 86, of Van Buren, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002. She was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church. She held offices in the women circles where she received a “Life-Time” pin. She was a member of the choir. She also organized all the kitchen duties for the dinners at church, Lions Club and the Rotary Club. She was in charge of fair booths and quilting bees. Her hobbies were canning, cooking and doing arts and crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Uriah Smith.
Survivors include a sister, Mae Moran of Mena; two sons, Clarence Uriah Smith Sr. and Dennis Troy Smith of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Velma Mae Campbell of Largo, Fla., and Ulene Fay Dyer of Van Buren; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 7 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage United Methodist Church Youth Department.

Maudie Clark
Maudie Mae McCormick Clark, 75, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and member of the Block Holiness Church in Van Buren.
Survivors include three daughters, Elga Goff, Betty Hefley and Nora Clark, all of Van Buren; two sons, Charles McCormick of Van Buren and Edmond Jones of Alma; three sisters, Emma Mooney of Carthage, Miss., Florence Chandler of Dyer and Pat Brumley of Mountainburg; two brothers, Carl Edgar and Lonzo Edgar, both of Dyer; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 9 at Ocker Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Bill Hefley, Roger Chandler, Dale Worthey, Douglas Cook, Timothy McCormick, Joey McCormick, John Goff, Jason Cook and Scottie Cook.

Mary Smart
Mary Bracy Smart, 94, of Van Buren, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002. She was a retired writer.
Survivors include one son, David Smart of Van Buren.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Viewing will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour.
