Linda Cravens
Linda Cravens, 50, of Mulberry, died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at a Van Buren nursing home. She was an office clerical worker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Van Buren.
Survivors include her father, Ernest Smalley of Mulberry; three sisters, Terry Elem of Killen, Texas, Lorie Perry of Mommee, Ohio, and Tammy Gilbert of Mulberry; and a brother, Steve Smalley of Kansas.
Funeral service was held July 17 at Shaffer Funeral Home in Mulberry. Burial was at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
Pallbearers were Brad Morris, Eric Swearingen, Adam Workman, Bernie Harmon and Jeff Marvin.
Ray Sims
Ray Edmond Sims, 78, of Mountainburg, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include by his wife, Twyla; two daughters, Becky Balazic of Van Buren and Kim Kastl of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Debbie Seiter, Blake and Jacob Kastl; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held July 5 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Conley Cemetery in Mountainburg.
Pallbearers were Gerald Bailey, Blendon Berry, Bruce and Bill Coleman, Louie Hobbs, Gary Marshell, Jack Peters and Morris Teague.
Colleen Summerhill
Colleen Summerhill, 77, of Van Buren, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Fay Summerhill.
Survivors include two daughters, Wyona A. Thompson of Fort Smith and Darlene Johns of Van Buren; two sons, Dwaine and Ivan Summerhill, both of Fort Smith; two sisters, Lou Patterson and Blanche O’Roark, both of Van Buren; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held July 15 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Steve Syrock, Larry Hyde, Paul and Kenny Summerhill, James Hunter, Wylie Brewer, Quincy O’Kelley and Ronald Ray.
Chieko Plonski
Chieko Plonski, 70, of Mulberry, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas and Michael Plonski, both of Mulberry; her mother, Toyo Maida of Tokyo, Japan; a sister, Shizue Matsuda of Tokyo, Japan; and a grandchild, Justin Plonski of Mulberry.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Mary Bell
Mary Chastain Bell, 82, of Van Buren, died Sunday, July 7, 2002. She was a homemaker, retired from Dixie Cup after 30 years and a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. She was the widow of Gerald C. Bell.
Survivors include two sons Gary J. Bell of Nixa, Mo., and Jimmy G. Bell of Van Buren; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a caregiver, Ann Tyler of Cedarville.
Funeral service was held July 10 at Edwards-Van Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren. Interment was at Alma Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jim Bell, Lonnie Myers, Alan Morrison, Dr. Wendell Ross, Tom Fite, Jr. McMellon, Ronnie Matthews and Delmer Lewis.
The family will receive friends at the home of Jimmy and Sherri Bell at 4510 Pine Ridge Drive in Van Buren.

Joe Young
Joe Young, 58, of Rudy, died Monday, July 8, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a life-long resident of Crawford County, a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from the Fort Smith School District.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Young; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Michelle and Keith Jenkins of Van Buren; two sons, Stephen Joseph and John Nathaniel Young, both of Van Buren; three sisters, Norma Rogers and Wilma Mounce, both of Van Buren, and Erma Lamb of Lake, Miss.; four brothers, Ray Young of Tifton, Ga., and Olin, Arlis and Roy Young, all of Van Buren; four grandchildren, Joyce Nathaniel Wiley, Emalee Danielle and Hanna Elizabeth Jenkins and Christopher Paul Wiley.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Gamble, Milton Parker, Brud Hunter, Troy Sugg, Mike and Steve Pitchford.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Cody Moore
Cody Moore, 20, of Van Buren, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a graduate of Van Buren High School Class of 2000 and was a steel worker.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Monica and Fairon McDowell of Uniontown, his father and stepmother, Steve and Sandra Moore of Van Buren; a sister, Steva Danielle Moore of Van Buren; a brother, Cory Lee Moore of Van Buren; two stepsisters, Stephanie McDowell of Uniontown and Terri Highfill of Van Buren; a stepbrother, Devin Highfill of Van Buren; maternal grandparents, Gerri and Sherman “Butch” Smith of Cedarville; and paternal grandmother, Mary Moore of Van Buren.
Funeral service was held July 5 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was held at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Brian Boster, Ashley Zoza, Jacob Gramlich, Dustin and David Moore, Jimmy Sullivan and Robert Gregory.
