Julie Bryan
Julie Ann Bryan, 40, of Van Buren, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at a Little Rock hospital. She was an Whirlpool employee, a graduate of Mountainburg High School and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Bryan, Jr.; one daughter, Joanna Bryan; mother, Barbara Farrar of Van Buren; paternal grandmother, Mary Farrar of Barling; three sisters, Carrie Burchman and Adell Copeland, of Van Buren and Tammy Elkins of Fort Smith; three brothers, Gene Farrar of Fort Smith, Mike Farrar of California and Albert Farrar of Rudy; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mt. McCurry Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Charles Newman
Charles Wendel Newman, 71, of Van Buren, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002. He was self-employed in construction.
Survivors include one daughter, Connie Dorothy of Van Buren; two sisters, LaVonda Kay Mitchell of Bonaparte, Iowa, and Sheila Carr of Salem, Iowa; one brother Gary Newman of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Salem Friends Church. Burial will be held at Salem South Cemetery. Local arrangements will be under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Edna Jones
Edna Lee Jones, 88, of Van Buren, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at a local nursing home. She was a retired apartment manager and a Protestant.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Jean Taylor of Lemoore, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be held at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will nephews, David Hunter, Mike Hunter, Larry Alverson, Danny Nicely, Robbie Harman and Bryan Foster.
Lois Graves
Lois Jean Graves, 85, of Mountainburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at a local hospital. She was retired postmistress for the postal service, the forestry service, past grand mistress of the Clearcreek Eastern Star No. 332, grand warder and past deputy for her district and a member of Mount View Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Graves.
Survivors include a son, Charles Graves of Fayetteville; several grandchildren and one great-grandson; and her caregivers, Dorothy Hayre and Connie Seratt, both of Mountainburg.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at Vaught Cemetery in Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers will be Chris Nolen, Dustin Leakey, Wayne Leakey, Jim Moody, Andy Brown and Ronald Beliles.
John W. Carty
John W. Carty, 76, of Mulberry, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at a Fort Smith Hospital. He was a retired teacher and administrator at Chaffin and Darby Junior High schools in Fort Smith, Ozark, Mulberry and Rudy School districts and Fairbury, Ill. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and member of Mulberry United Methodist Church, Mulberry Lions Club, Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and Arkansas Farm Bureau.
Survivors include one son, Scott Carty of Fort Smith; three stepsons, Boyce Wofford and Tom Wofford, both of Alma, and Richard Wofford of Santiago, Chile; two sisters, Betty Eubanks of Little Rock and Mary Carty of Mulberry; one brother, Jim Carty of Collinsville, Okla.; two grandchildren and 10 step-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Mulberry United Methodist Church. A private burial will be held Thursday under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.

Michael Loney
Michael Lee Loney, 53, of Mulberry, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at his home. He was born in Flint, Mich, was a graduate of Michigan State University, a Navy veteran, an electronic technician and a member of Eagles.
Memorial service was held Jan. 23 at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Ozark; three daughters, Isrea Loney of Muskegon, Mich., Jennifer Bolf of Flushing, Mich., and Jackie Waits of Springdale; two sons, Michael Loney II of Murrieta, Calif., and Jeremiah Loney of Mulberry; four sisters, Shirley Nichols of Birch Run, Mich., Patricia Loney of Reese, Mich., Susan Loney of Flint, Mich., and Catheryn Szrainskia of Indian River, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren.
Bertha Jordan
Bertha Mae Jordan, 94, of Mulberry, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Springdale. She was retired from general merchandising retailing and a member of Main Street Missionary Baptist Church, the Civic Club, PTA and Pleasant View Friendly Neighbors Club, all of Mulberry.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Jordan of Richardson, Texas, and Jackie Holiman of Springdale; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Main Street Missionary Baptist Church in Mulberry with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
Pallbearers were Mike, Randy and Brett Holiman, Bobby Crocker, Al and Ronnie Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Pleasant View Friendly Neighbors Club.

Arthur Painter
Arthur Ray Painter, 72, of Mountainburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, in Springdale. He was a diesel mechanic for Red Deer Construction Co., an Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of Masonic Lodge in Moab, Utah No. 30 and a 32nd degree Shriner in Fort Smith
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; two daughters, Lori Sims of Mountainburg and Pat Smith of Fort Smith; a son, Larry Johnson of Seattle; a brother, Ronnie Painter of Wallings, Ky.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 25 at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Bassham-Sims Cemetery in Mountainburg.
Pallbearers were Kaare, Kelly, Michael and Bobby West, Time Wilkinson and Chad Peaks.
