Virgil Goff
Virgil Goff, 83, of Van Buren, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a retired chief of police for the Van Buren Police Department and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two sons, James Goff of Springdale and Tommy Goff of Charleston; one sister, Elsie Reynolds of Fort Smith; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Chapel. Burial will be at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Glynda Peters
Glynda “Jim” Peters, 77, of Mountainburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at her home. She was a member of Mountainburg Presbyterian Church, former employee of Dixie Cup and native of the Fern Community.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Eugene Peters; one daughter, Donna Faehling of Mountainburg; one son, Phil Peters of Louisville, Ky.; five sisters, Hazel Balazic of Montana, Thelma Balazic of Alma, Ola Whitlock of Fort Smith, Mary Lou Satterfield of Winslow and Emma Rogers of Mountainburg; one brother, Zane Turner of Mountainburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Mountainburg Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Conley Cemetery at Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Dwayne and Kelly Rogers, Mike and Dale Balazic, John Satterfield, Roy Gene Cochran, Brett Peters and Todd Marshall. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult Sunday School Class of the Mountainburg Presbyterian Church.
Clyde Hoyle
Clyde “Pep” Hoyle, 84, of Mulberry, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at his home. He was born in Mulberry, an Army veteran of World War II, a former employee of DeSoto Furniture and a member of Mulberry First Assembly of God.
He is survived by his wife, Alma; two daughters, Mary Louise Millsap of Lawton, Okla., and Eva Millsap of Mulberry; a son, David Hoyle of Mulberry; three sisters, Phyllis Stotts of Arlington, Texas, Inez Allen of Alma and Mixine Conway of North Little Rock; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 18 at Mulberry First Assembly of God with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Pallbearers were Mike, Doug and Jeff Millsap, Wanda Teel, Dana Higdon, Greg and Chris Hoyle. Honorary pallbearers were James Hawkins, Butch Lorimore, Bill Davis, Kenneth Medlock, Travis Williams and Ronnie Millsap.
Howard Wilson
Howard “Sonny” Wilson, 52, of Van Buren, died Saturday, June 29, 2002. He was a disabled truck driver.
Survivors include two sisters, Joyce Landers of Van Buren and Dorothy Landgraff of Sacramento, Calif.; a niece, Lori Palafox of Fort Smith; two nephews, James Landers of Van Buren and Jody Landers of Dora; three great nieces and two great nephews.
Graveside service was held July 2 at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Birdie Estes
Birdie Lavelle Estes, 87, of Van Buren, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at her home. She was a member of Van Buren First Baptist Church and a retired school teacher, having taught at Oak Groove and No. 12 Schools for 33 years. She was the widow of Claude Estes.
She is survived by a daughter, Claudette Parks of Van Buren; a son, Andrew Estes of Russellville; a sister, Adell Hankins of Bartlesville, Okla.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Jan. 29 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Jackie, Bobby and Johnny Taylor, Odean Belt, Ronnie Coble and Perry Edwards.
Minnie Mize
Minnie M. Mize, 92, of Mulberry, died Saturday, May 4, 2002. She was a member of the Mulberry Assembly of God and a nurse.
Survivors include a sister, Elsie Ravenscraft of Mulberry; and nieces and nephews, Roy O’Bar, Norma Keeton and Wanda Cunningham, all of Mulberry, Lily McNutt of August, Kan., and James Scott of Van Buren.
Funeral service was held May 7 at the Mulberry Assembly of God. Burial was held at Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba, Calif., under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Gerald Davis Jr.
Gerald Todd Davis Jr., infant son of Sarah and Gerald Todd Davis Sr. of Mulberry, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at a local hospital.
Other survivors include his maternal grandparents, Max E. and Brenda Melton of Mulberry; paternal grandparents, Richard Davis of Waldron; maternal great-grandparents, Bill McCurry of Cameron, Okla., and Tessie McCurry of Fort Smith; a great aunt Karen Beard of Booneville.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Carolan Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Charles Winford
Charles Raymond Winford, 92, of Dyer, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at a local nursing home. He was a retired manager of Kinney Shoe Stores, a member of the First Baptist Church in Fort Smith and attended the Dyer Methodist Church. He was a resident of Dyer since 1972 and a former resident of Garden Grove, Calif. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and the widower of Reba Dyer Winford.
Survivors include a sister, Ellen Burton of Hartford, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held May 13 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial was at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Nelson, Roy Beebe, Lawrence Fitting, Roger McConnell, Chad Beebe and Jerry Winford. Honorary pallbearers were his nieces and nephews.
