Linda Caldwell
Linda Sue Caldwell, 44, died Friday, January 15, at Baptist Medical
Center in Memphis.
She was a resident of Lee County and a crane engineer.
She is survived by three brothers, Charles Mask, Bobby Mask and Lonnie
Joe Mask; three daughters, Violet Renee Milton of Stuttgart, Dawn Milton
of Walls, MS, and Sandy Mask of Virginia; and two grandsons.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 19, at 2 p.m. at Hightower
and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. L.C. Mitchell officiating. Burial
followed at Marianna Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Bobby Mask. Charles Mask, Buddy Palmer, Dan Fesperman,
Casey Ball and Loyal Barnes.
Arrangements were handled by Hightower and Sons Funeral Home.
Horace Jones
Horace Frank Jones, 78, died Tuesday, January 5, at Baptist Memorial
Hospital in Forrest City.
He was a resident of Haynes and a farmer. He also was a veteran of World
War II, a member of the V.F.W. and a member of the Palestine Baptist
Church.
He is survived by one son, Mr. Buster Sanford of Marianna; one brother,
Mr. John Jones of Fouke, AR; and one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Trail of
Forrest City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Virginia Jones.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 7, at Stevens Funeral Home
Chapel at 10 a.m. Burial followed at Forrest Park Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Stevens Funeral Home in Forrest City.
Earnestine Jordan
Earnestine Jordan, 74, died Sunday, January 3, in Helena.
She was a resident of Lee County.
She is survived by her husband, Sim Jordan of Rondo; four daughters,
Linda Palmer of Moro, Dolores Willis of Aubrey, Rosie Staples of Detroit
and Emma Nelson of St. Louis; six sons, Alfred Jordan of Kansas City,
Curtis Jordan of Aubrey, Sherman Jordan of Memphis, Samuel Jordan of
Marianna, Michael Jordan of Little Rock and John Jordan of Virginia
Beach; three sisters, Thelma Brandon, Dorothy Woods and Gloria; one
uncle, Jessie Douglas of Gary, IN; 34 grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 9, at 2:30 p.m. at Paradise
#2 M.B. Church with Rev. Vassal officiating. Burial followed at Paradise
Cemetery in Marianna.
Arrangements were handled by J.E. Kennedy Funeral Home.
Frank Penigar
Elder Frank Penigar, 74, died Sunday, January 3, in Forrest City.
He was a resident of St. Francis County.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Penigar; four daughters, Bonnie
Penigar, Sandra Bishop and Marion Parker, all of Milwaukee and Debra
Davis of San Diego; three sons, Larry Penigar of Milwaukee, Frank
Penigar, Jr. of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Darryl Jackson of Forrest
City; and two sisters, Marie Cooksie of Flint, MI and Jessie McKnight of
Milwaukee.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 9, at 12 noon, at Taylor
Chapel in Forrest City. Burial followed at Casteel Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by J.E. Kennedy Funeral Home.
Charlie Jackson
Charlie Lee Jackson Sr., 81, died Friday, January 8, at Crestpark
Skilled Nursing Home in Forrest City.
He was a resident of St. Francis County and a member of Oak Hill Church
of God. He also was a retired equipment operator for St. Francis County.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille Hamby Jackson of Forrest City; six
sons, Wayne Jackson, Billy Jackson, Charlie Jackson, Ray Jackson and
Ricky Jackson, all of Forrest City and Jerry Jackson of Florida; five
daughters, Jackie Barnes, Linda Weddington and Joyce Moody, all of
Forrest City, Martha Atkins of Marion and Glenda Zambroni of Memphis;
one sister, Louise Sills of Spokane, Washington; several grandchildren
and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny Jackson and John M. Jackson
and one daughter, Dianne Jackson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 12, at Stevens Funeral Home
in Forrest City at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Spring Creek Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Stevens Funeral Home.
Thomas Smith
Thomas Benton (Tom B.) Smith, 50, died Wednesday, January 13, at Cross
County Hospital in Wynne.
He was a resident of Cross County and a Wynne attorney. He attended the
University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and received his Juris Doctorate
from the University of Arkansas School of Law. He entered the private
practice of law in 1974 in Wynne with his grandfather and his uncle. He
served as County Attorney for Cross County and Deputy Prosecuting
Attorney. He served as Municipal Judge for the City of Hickory Ridge. He
had served as Special Arkansas Supreme Court Associate Justice on two
occasions, in 1987 and in 1992. He was a member of the American and
Arkansas Bar Associations and was currently serving as President of the
Cross County Bar Association.
A staunch Democrat, he had been chairman of the Cross County Democratic
Central Committee since 1988, served as State Democratic Committee
Treasurer from 1976-86, a delegate to the Democratic National Convention
in 1976 and 1980 and a delegate to all Democratic State Conventions
since 1974. He also was Chairman of the Cross County Election
Commission.
He was a charter member and founding area chairman of the Shaver-Farmer
Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He served as State Chairman of Arkansas
Ducks Unlimited in 1984-85 and as a Zone Chairman and National Trustee.
He also was a member and deacon of Wynne Presbyterian Church, Wynne
Rotary Club, and the Wynne Chamber of Commerce. He was past president of
Wynne Fumble Club and was a past board member of the Arkansas Community
Foundation. He was founding president of the Board of Little Sheep
Daycare at Wynne Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Counts Felton Smith of Wynne; a son, Thomas
Benton Smith, Jr., 24, a student at the University of Arkansas School of
Law in Fayetteville; a daughter, Counts Louise Smith, 20, also a student
at the University of Arkansas; his mother, Winnie Bob Smith of Birdeye;
two brothers, James Harmon Smith, Jr., of Cherry Valley and William W.
Smith of Bellvue, Colorado; and two sisters, Carolyn Smith Raffety of
Wynne and Meredith Smith Schweighart of Birdeye.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 14, at the Wynne
Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. Burial followed at Cogbill Cemetery in
Wynne.

Robert L. Jones
Robert L. Jones, 53, died Wednesday, January 13, at the Regional Medical
Center in Memphis.
He was a 1963 graduate of Anna Strong High School. He later attended
Arkansas AM&N College in Pine Bluff. In 1967 he joined the armed
services and served for three years. He also was a faithful employee of
Sanyo Manufacturing Co. for 33 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Tiffeny L. Jones of Newport News,
Virginia; one brother, William Rufus Jones of San Francisco; his
godparents, Clemmie and Earnestine Taylor; four nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 16, at 12 p.m. at Mt.
Gillian Baptist Church at Holub Crossing with Rev. Spencer Brown
officiating. Burial followed at Gill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph L. Perry, Jr., Columbus Dukes, Jr., Waverly
Austin, Sr., Edgar Dukes, Jr., Larry Banks, Eugene Perry, Willie Lee
Conley and Clifton Collier.
Honorary pallbearers were Columbus Dukes, Sr., Curtis Walker, Edgar
Dukes, Sr., Arthur Perkins, Charles Nash, Isaac Green and Sullivan
Evans.
Arrangements were handled by Jackson and Highley Funeral Home in West
Helena.
