Biographical And Historical Memoirs of Pulaski, Jefferson, Lonoke, Faulkner, Grant, Saline, Perry, Garland And Hot Spring Counties, Arkansas

E.L. Standridge

Mr. E.L. "Pete" Standridge, 61, died Monday, July 19, at Norman Regional

Hospital in Oklahoma.

He was a resident of Moore, Oklahoma and a truck driver. He also was a

Veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Allison; two sons, David Standridge of

Moore, Oklahoma and Donnie Standridge of Noble, Oklahoma; one daughter,

Roxsanna Standridge of Dell City, Oklahoma; two brothers, six sisters,

and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 22, at the Twin Assembly of

God Church in Palestine with Rev. Fred Dover officiating and Rev. Wayne

Gore assisting. Burial followed at Marrs Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Stevens Funeral Home.

Barney Oswalt

COL (Ret.) Barney L. Oswalt, 74, died Wednesday, July 21.

He was a resident of North Little Rock and a combat veteran of WWII as a

member of the 8th Air Force in bombing missions over Germany. He retired

in 1980 from the Arkansas Army National Guard with the rank of Colonel

for a total combined service of 34 years. He also was a member of

Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, Big Rock Masonic

Lodge, Scottish Rite and Scimitar Shrine of Little Rock and National

Sojourners Chapter 166.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy Hackler Oswalt; a daughter, Anne O.

Walker of North Little Rock; a son, Edward G. Oswalt of Sherwood; two

stepdaughters, Kathy Horton of Fayetteville and Anne Langley of Benton;

two brothers, W.E. "Tiny" Oswalt and William G. Oswalt, both of Forrest

City; and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Anne Conner Oswalt, wife for 43 years and a

son, Barney L. Oswalt, Jr.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 23, at Lakewood United Methodist

Church. Burial followed at Rest Hills Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Arkansas Children's Hospital or Lakewood United

Methodist Church.

Arrangements were handled by Roller-Owens Funeral Home.

Henry Burnett

Ms. Henry Burnett, 72, died, Sunday, July 18, in Waukegan, ILL.

She was a resident of Waukegan, formerly of Marianna. She also was a

member of St. John M.B. Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Burnett of Waukegan, ILL and

Jerelene Bianchi of Ridgewood, New Jersey; two sisters, Lilian Burnett

of Marianna and Mable King of Waukegan; four grandchildren and one great

grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, at St. John M.B. Church in

Felton at 11 a.m. with Rev. Spencer Brown officiating. Burial followed

at St. John Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dock Robinson, James King, Judge J. Burnett, Henry

Burnett, Roy Johnson, and Richard Burnett.

Honorary pallbearers were Raymond Gilmore, Waymon Sisk, Pitson Brady and

Grady Bledsoe.

Arrangements were handled by Marianna Funeral Home.

Lelia Peals

Lelia Mae Peals, 73, died Tuesday, July 13, at Baptist Memorial Hospital

in Forrest City.

She was a resident of Lee County and a member of Peters Chapel Church.

She is survived by eleven children, Robert Lee Peals, Rev. Elijah Peals,

Jr., Solomon Peals, all of Laporte, IN, Cecelia Venson of Little Rock,

Rev. Ray Peals, Sr., Jerry Peals, Earnest Lee Peals, Rickey Peals, David

Lee Peals, all of Marianna, Curtis Lee Peals of San Diego, CA and Lurona

Lenear of Jonesboro; four brothers, two sisters, 34 grandchildren and 27

great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, at Union Liberty M.B. Church

in Brickeys at 3 p.m. Burial followed at Peter's Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Deacons of Peter's Chapel M.B. Church.

Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Ray Peals, Jr., Terrance Peals, Andy

Anderson Coleman, Solomon Peals, Jr., Jeffery a. Miller, Jay Dee Miller

and Jessica Miller.

Arrangements were handled by Marianna Funeral Home.

Glenda Scott

Glenda J. Scott, 48, died Tuesday, July 14, in her home.

She was a resident of Marianna and a member of Paradise No.1 M.B.

Church. She also was a member of numerous organizations and clubs and a

member of the Marianna Area Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta

Sorority, Inc.

She is survived by her husband, Rev. Thomas (T.J.) Scott, Jr. of

Marianna; two sons, Rev. Thomas (T.J.) Scott, III and Quincy Terrell

Scott, both of Marianna; her mother, Mrs. Johnnie Bea McDonald of Pine

Bluff; and one brother, Jimmy McDonald of Pine Bluff.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, at Spring Grove M.B. Church

in Haynes at 11 a.m. with Rev. Marvin Wiley officiating. Burial followed

at Baines Cemetery in Monroe.

Pallbearers were the Ministers.

Honorary pallbearers were First Baptist Deacons of Helena, First Baptist

Deacons of Wheatley and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

Arrangements were handled by Marianna Funeral Home.

Milburn Hornbeak

Milburn Eugene Hornbeak, 82, died Monday, August 2, at Methodist North

Hospital in Memphis.

He was a resident of Marianna and a retired Stock Yard/Agriculture.

He is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Lamb of Marianna and Peggy

Zarlingo of Messa, Arizona; two sons, Jesse James Hornbeak of Marianna

and Tommy Hornbeak of Von Terre, AR; one sister, Vivian Hancock of West

Helena; one brother, Wallace Hornbeak of Hughes; ten grandchildren, 15

great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Hornbeak.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 5, at 2 p.m. at

Roller-Citizens Chapel in Marianna with Rev. Rodger Hooker officiating.

Burial followed at Marianna Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were David Johnson, Richard Chism, Joseph Parson, Albert

Acock, Holly Hickman and Jeff Hickman.

Arrangements were handled by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Sherwood Martin

Sherwood Martin, 43, died Sunday, August 1.

He was a resident of Temple, TX, formerly of Moro.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Martin of Temple, TX; one daughter,

Youlanda Martin of Little Rock; two sons, Sherdick Martin of Little Rock

and Michael Martin of Rantoul, ILL; mother, Alberta Perry Martin of

Moro; and nine sisters and one brother, Mozella Thurston of Chicago,

Lena Broadway, Qunnietta Stuart, Mattie Lewis, Elriorce Johnson and

Shellat Lockhart, all of Little Rock, Venice Ali of Memphis, Alberta

Seals and Willie Martin, all of Moro and Gilbert Martin of Champaign,

ILL.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 7, at 1 p.m. at Springfield

Church in Moro with Rev. A.J. Franks, Jr. officiating. Burial followed

at Springfield Church Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Marianna Funeral Home.

Veachel Conner

Veachel Conner, 87, died Thursday, August 5, in her home.

She was a resident of Little Rock and a homemaker.

She is survived by three daughters, Learline Johnson of Forrest City,

Dana Boehm of Little Rock and Peggy Shank, all of Little Rock; four

sons, George Conner of El Dorado, Bennie E. Conner of Barling, Noel

Conner of Marianna and Glen Conner of Durant, OK; one brother, Audrey

Vann of Florida; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 15 great-

great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 9, at 10 a.m., at the Church

of God in Marianna with Rev. J.K. Wall s officiating. Burial followed at

Marianna Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Terry Swiney, Lee Clemons, Curtis Ables, Ken Prentice,

James Guynes, Floyd Guynes and Curtis Conner.

Arrangements were handled by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Memorials may be sent to Arkansas State Hospice.
