Virginia Lee Dillard Belford

Virginia Lee Dillard Belford, age 82 years, died Monday, October 03, 2005. She was born in Monticello, Arkansas, graduating from high school before attending Christian College in Columbia, Missouri. After her schooling she marriage John Belford, Jr. in the early 40's living in Columbus, Ohio, where John was the youngest Bureau Chief of United Press International. In 1953, they moved to Little Rock. Virginia not only raised three children, but also supported her husband’s position at The Arkansas Arts Center, graciously hosting many international dignitaries that would visit their home. She was also active with the Daughters of The American Revolution, the Arkansas Arts Center and her church, St. Michael Episcopal. Virginia was a gracious, benevolent lady that loved life and helped many others.

She is preceded in death by her husband John who died in 1986. She is survived by her two sons; Jack Belford and wife Judy of Little Rock, Jim Belford and wife Kathy of Lakeland, Florida, one daughter, Jayne Bozovsky and husband Ed of Little Rock, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial communion Friday, October 7th at 1pm at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, with the committal of ashes to follow at St. Mark’s Episcopal Garden. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th Street, Little Rock 72205.

George Hornor Jeffries

George Hornor Jeffries, age 53, of Little Rock, died Monday November 21, 2005. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado the son of the late Charles Cole Jeffries and his mother Edwynne Morris Hornor who lives in Little Rock. George was a graduate of Helena Central High School and attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was a manager for the Helena Marine Service and worked for the Arkansas River Company. He was also a great fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team.

George is survived by his mother mentioned above, 2 brothers; E. Curtis Jeffries wife Pat their 2 children Chase and Marly of Little Rock, and C. Cole Jeffries wife Michele their 3 children Courtney, Carolyn and Brian of Tampa, Florida.

There will be a memorial funeral service, today, Wednesday November 23rd, at 2pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church officiated by The Reverend Rocki Proffitt. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to St. Vincent Infirmary, Coronary Unit, Two St. Vincent Circle, Little Rock 72205.

Viola Curti Hawes

Viola Curti Hawes of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, was born on May 20, 1922, in Watertown, Massachusetts, and died on November 22, 2005, in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Olive Drewett Curti and her husband, Howard Haldane Hawes, Jr. She is survived by two sons: Howard Haldane Hawes III and his wife Barbara of Little Rock and Randall Kenneth Hawes and his partner Pamela Rankin of Grand Prairie, TX. Six sisters survive: Charlotte Denny of Lexington, KY; Nell DiPalma of Katonah, NY; Olivia Franze of Pine Knoll Shores, NC; Mary Gildersleeve of Bayport, L.I., NY; Erminia Holz and Harriette Perkins, both of Patchogue, L.I., NY; She is also survived by five grandchildren: Howard Monte Hawes of Memphis, Melinda Hawes of Little Rock, Melissa Williams and Randall Keith Hawes both of Mansfield, TX, and Rebecca Taylor of Burleson, TX. She also is survived by nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hawes was an avid fisherman and golfer and enjoyed creative cooking and decorating. She was the women’s golf champion of two different golf clubs in Texas. Her father was a nurseryman on Long Island and she inherited his love of and skill in growing flowers.

Visitation will be at Ruebel Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, from 5-7 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Grand Prairie, TX, on Saturday, November 26 at 2 p.m. Officiating will be Father Robert Young of St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Grand Prairie.

Funeral arrangements are by Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the girls’ golf program at The First Tee Arkansas, #1 The First Tee Way, Little Rock, AR 72204.

Daryl Karl Gillman

Daryl Karl Gillman, 66, of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Baptist Health in Little Rock.

He was born February 8, 1939 in Salina, Kansas to Karl W. and Barbara Ayres Gillman and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville and a former member of Westover Hills Presbyterian Church in Little Rock.

Daryl was preceded in death by his father, Karl W. Gillman, who died in 1967.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Beth Ayres Gillman of Jacksonville; sister, Dixie Buchanan and husband James “Buck” of Cabot; brother, David Gillman and wife Lisa of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews Barbara Buchanan of Oklahoma City, Okla., William Karl Buchanan and wife Cassandra of Spring, Texas, Bree Holbrook and husband Jordan of Memphis, Tenn, Chase Gillman of Orlando, Florida, and Kailey Gillman of Tulsa, Okla.; great niece and nephew, Kristin and Jacob Buchanan.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at Ruebel Funeral Home, Little Rock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville, officiated by Reverend David Dyer. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, should be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1208 W. Main St., Jacksonville, 72076

Madeline Bauer Gibson

Madeline Bauer Gibson, “Me Mommie Madeline”, age 81, of Little Rock, passed away November 18, 2005, after a long battle with Parkinson’s. She was born in Old Monroe, Missouri, the daughter of the late Paul and Apollonia Bauer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Madeline was a kind, gentle soul who filled the world with love, and laughter. She completed every task with such perfection. She was an accomplished seamstress, extraordinary cook and pastry chef. She will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her.

Madeline is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Harry Charles Gibson who died in 1993; three children, infant John Gibson, and sons, Jerome and Christopher Gibson; four brothers, Leander, Cornelius, Paul and Arthur Bauer; a sister Ester Bauer; and a grandson, Matthew Miller.

Survivors are five daughters, Janet Korenblat and husband Scott of Little Rock, Jennifer Honeycutt and husband Jeff of Little Rock, Deborah Bolinger and husband Bobby of Morristown, Tennessee, Kathy Lee of Little Rock, Mary Boyd and husband Jim of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two sons, Robert Gibson and wife Lisa of Little Rock, Michael Gibson and wife Sun of Abilene, Texas; a daughter-in-law Davina Bolinger of Morristown, Tennessee; four brothers, Edwin Bauer and wife Harriet, Sylvester Bauer and wife Gen, Victor Bauer and wife Bernadine, James Bauer and wife Ruth; a sister Sally Ohlms and husband Glennon; grandchildren, Brian and Amy Lowery, Lisa Miller, Joey, Rebecca and David Bolinger, Jesse Honeycutt, Liana, Kelly and Luke Gibson, Anna Gibson, Tyler and Adam Korenblat; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 21, 2005, at Christ the King Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Herbert Hebert. A reception will follow in the Church Social Hall. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m., also on Tuesday, at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Dr. Charles English

Dr. Charles Edward English, 59, of Little Rock, died on Thursday, November 3, 2005. He was born in Lebanon, IN, to Tony and Kathryn Clover English. Dr. English was a graduate of Butler University, receiving a B.S. in Zoology and a minor in chemistry. He entered Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1967. In 1971 he volunteered for the U. S. Army Dental Corps and was stationed at Valley Forge General Hospital, outside of Philadelphia. He then moved to Marblehead, MA as an associate in 1973 and was on staff at Tufts University. His desire for more education and specialty training led him to Bedford, MA where he joined the Department of Veterans Affairs. His career with the V.A. would later take him to Houston, TX, where he completed his residency in prosthodontics, and then to Tampa, FL and Augusta, GA. Dr. English began his lecturing career on prosthetics in 1985, continuing until October 2005. He took an early retirement from the V.A. in 1997, moving to Heber Springs, AR to work with Green Dental Laboratories as V.P. of Education. In 2001 he moved to Little Rock to return to private practice.

In December of 2000 he was diagnosed with lung cancer, but continued to lead an active life, enjoying every moment to its fullest. On April 6, 2003, he and Sandra Davis were married. Dr. English enjoyed collecting antiques and art, was a wonderful cook, and avid gardener and photographer.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, a daughter, Meredith English of Charleston, SC, two brothers, Tom English and his wife, Jean of Sheridan, IN and John English and his wife, Anita of Kendallville, IN, a sister, Georgia Ann Edie and her husband John of Plainfield, IN, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He is also survived by his former wife, Brooke English of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19 at Second Presbyterian Church by Rev. Jim Miller. A celebratory reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Rock Council of Garden Clubs, Attn: Gazebo Fund, 1501 Kavanaugh Blvd, Little Rock, AR, 72205.

Isabelle Perry Cooper

Mrs. Isabelle Brett Perry Cooper, age 77, of North Little Rock, and formerly of Windsor, North Carolina, died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Monday, November 28th, 2005. She went to be with the Lord joining her husband Turner Bond Cooper, Jr. and son Turner Bond Cooper, III. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Cooper Moore and husband Jim of Huntsville, Alabama, Monta Cooper Walker and husband David of North Little Rock, one son Dr. Edward Perry Cooper and wife Cheryl of Hot Springs, Arkansas, six grandchildren, Sarah Brett Walker Todd, Matthew and Turner Moore, E. P., Catie and Libby Cooper and one great-grandchild, Isabelle Todd.

Isabelle was a 50 year member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, a member of the Colonial Dames and once active with The Centers for Youth and Family, and the Arkansas Arts Center.

There will be a visitation today, Wednesday from 5 to 7pm at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service Thursday at 1pm at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

John W. Clayton, Capt. USNR, Ret.

John W. Clayton, Capt. USNR, Ret. died November 22, 2005. He was born in Edina, Missouri, to the late Ralph and Ruth Clayton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine and sisters Olive Hardke and Nina Miller. Capt. Clayton was a World War II veteran, a Pearl Harbor Survivor and a 1946 graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He served with distinction in many capacities as a Naval Officer, including Executive Officer on the USS Independence in the Mediterranean in 1966 and as President of the United States Naval Reserve Officers Association in 1980. He owned and operated Clayton Health Stores for number of years and was appointed to a term on the State Board of Health by then Governor Bill Clinton. Many will remember him as Director of the Junior City Baseball League in Little Rock from 1957-1964. He was a Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

He is survived by a son, John W. Clayton, Jr. and wife Regina of Richmond, Virginia, grandsons John W. Clayton, III, and Jason W. Clayton both of Atlanta, Georgia, and nephews Fred Hardke of Carlisle, Robert Miller of Lonoke and Bill Miller of Cabot.

Services will be held in the chapel of Ruebel Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2005, with visitation at 10:30 AM.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to Arkansas Hospice, Pulaski Academy Scholarship Fund or a charity of choice.
