Sherry Johnson
Sherry Alene Johnson, loving wife of Paul, passed away in Yuma, Arizona, on July 26, 2002 after a long illness. She was born on August 1, 1945, in Paris.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She graduated from high school in Lavaca, and owned her own business in Fort Smith before marrying Paul and moving to Yuma. Sherry was an active member of Morningside Baptist Church in Yuma for the past 20 years. Until her illness, Sherry gave many hours of her time to the Assistance League of Yuma.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2002 at Smith Mortuary in Charleston. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2002 in Oakwood Cemetery in Paris.
She is survived by her husband Paul Brendan Johnson of the home; daughters, Susan Ballance Moore of Lavaca; Lisa Ballance Randall and her husband James H. Randall of Las Vegas; sons, Brendan Brian and his wife Amy of Birmingham, Alabama, and Kevin Joseph and his wife Mary of Washington D.C., and six grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister Mary Hobbs and Mary’s husband Joe Hobbs of Lavaca. Sherry’s father, Arthul Carlton "A.C." Carpenter, and her mother, Annabell Lowrey Carpenter, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be grandson Matthew Lindsey, nephews Brian, Chris and Bradley Hobbs, cousin John Farnham and Mark Rouse. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Young, Gene Robles, Kenneth Carpenter and Brian Johnson.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations may be made to the UCSD Cancer Center Foundation in LaJolla, California.

Keith Quick
Keith Quick of Austin, Texas, died on Monday, July 22, 2002, after a brave battle with cancer. He was born in Germany on August 15, 1958 and was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend. He graduated from Lanier High School in 1976 and attended the University of Texas School of Architecture. He had been a real estate agent, a mortgage loan officer and was currently a self-employed remodeling contractor in Austin. Mr. Quick loved the Lord and was very active in his church in areas of children’s ministries and most recently with the media ministry.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emogene Hill Quick. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann and sons 10 year old Hayden and 6 year old Baylis of Austin. He loved his sons and considered them a gift from the Lord. He desired to bless his boys with the gift of joy and laughter. Even while ill, he spent time with his family on road trips. Other survivors include his father, James R. Quick and his wife, Mary Beth of Burnet, Texas; sisters Betty Dusek of Houston and Addie Wilkens of Escondido, CA; and a brother, J.K. Williamson of Austin; as well as nieces, nephews and their children. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Everett and Peggy Buckner of Charleston; Mary Ann’s sisters and their husbands, Melinda and Edward Pillstrom of Sonoma, Calif, Melissa and Tom Wattinger of Austin, Manda and Mark Holt of Pflugerville, Martha and Ray Hudy of Austin and her brother William Buckner of Charleston; and nieces, nephews and a great-nephew. He is survived also by dear friends Richard and Sharon Gibbons and their daughter, Michelle and Stephen F. Cole of Austin.
A memorial celebration of his life was held on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at Great Hills Baptist Church in Austin, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Quick Children’s Fund Account #8033759245 at Colonial Bank, 12007 Technology Blvd, Austin, TX, 78727. Contributions may also be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs Road, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78759 and the Meida Ministry at Great Hills Baptist Church.

Ethel Blair
Ethel Lee Ratliff Blair, 107, of Charleston, died on Sunday, October 6, 2002 in Charleston. She was born on September 23, 1895 in the Hickory Ridge Community in Franklin County to Joe and Feeley Sweeney Ratliff. She was a cook for Coney Island and at the Arlington Hotel. She was also employed at Ward’s Furniture Co. in Fort Smith and she was a Baptist.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2002 at Tate Cemetery northwest of Charleston with Bro. Herman Stubblefield officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Smith Mortuary Inc. of Charleston.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Letha Love
Letha Fern Thomas Love, 73, of El Dorado, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002. She was a member of Parkers Chapel United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women’s Gideon Auxiliary and a 1946 graduate of Parker's Chapel High School.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; two sons, David Love and Ricky Love, both of El Dorado; a daughter, Denise L. Phillips of El Dorado; two brothers, James Earl Thomas of El Dorado, and William “Bill” Thomas of Van Buren; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Feb. 9 at Parker's Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial was at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Rumph Owers Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Parkers Chapel United Methodist Church, 3134 Haynesville Highway, El Dorado, AR 71730, or to Gideons International.

Melissa Powers
Melissa Jane Powers, 42, of Lawton, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, in Lawton. She was raised in Texas and Oklahoma where she attended school. She recently worked for the Veteran’s Administration Retirement Home and volunteered at her children’s schools.
Survivors include two sons, Joshua Sean Powers and Jimmy Scott Powers, both of Lawton; six sisters, Connie Pruitt of Lawton, Doris Raborn of Abilene, Texas, Nesa Sparks of Maybank, Texas, Ann Stout of Jacksboro, Texas, Barbara Wilbourn of Rudy, Althea Gay of Van Buren, Diane Bean of Arizona City, Ariz., Elizabeth Fields of Vallejo, Calif., and Jean Pruitt of Temple, Texas; and four brothers, Mickey Pruitt of Lawton, William Pruitt of Abilene, Texas, George Hunt of San Angelo, Texas, and Lovel Kingery of Cross Plains, Texas.
Memorial service was held Feb. 1 at Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Lawton.

Mattie Davis
Mattie Louvenia Martin Davis, 86, of Umpire, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Van Buren.
She was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Polk County to Monroe and Meggie Williams Martin. She was a retired poultry farmer, homemaker and a member of the Umpire Free Holiness Church. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James Daniel Davis.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Charles B. Dyer of Alma; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Davis of Umpire; a grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Chuck and Stacie Dyer of Alma; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Trey, Darian, Ged and Martin Davis Dyer, all of Alma; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral service was held July 2 at Umpire Free Holiness Church with Don Vaughn, David Swift and Sam Hendricks officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of DeQueen.

Stella Sims
Stella Mae Sims, 85, of Fayetteville, formerly of Mountainburg, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002. She worked in the cafeteria at Alma Head Start and was a charter member of Pigeon Creek Free Will Baptist Church in Mountainburg. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank.
Survivors include a sister, Sue Etta Looman of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, W.R. Teague of Alma; one grandchild, Shanna Collins of Farmington; three great-grandchildren, Casey, Brennon and Levi.
Funeral service was held June 28 at Pigeon Creek Free Will Baptist Church in Mountainburg. Burial was held at Conley Cemetery near Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Dickie, Buddy and Jimmie Joe Teague, Ben and Harlen Pixley and Tony Kastle.

Caron Martin
Caron Lynn Clegg Green Martin, 45, of Grand Prairie, Texas, died Saturday, April 27, 2002. She worked at McGraw Hill in Dallas, Pearlstein Distributor in Charleston, S.C., and Wal-Mart in Irving, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Robbie; her mother, Barbara Clegg; two brothers, Rick Clegg and Ron Clegg; her grandfather, Harold Clegg of Van Buren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service was held April 30 at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
