Harold Dudley Pharis
Harold Dudley Pharis, 80, of Grandview, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Berryville.
He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Berryville, son of James Irving and Lillie Lee (Rowlett) Pharis.
Mr. Pharis was a veteran, having served his country along with five of his brothers during World War II. As a Private First Class with the 316th QM Bakery Company, U.S. Army, her served in New Guinea, Australia, and in the Philippines. He retired from the Corps of Engineers after 20 years of service. During his career with the Corps, Harold helped complete numerous concrete construction projects on Beaver Lake.
On Dec. 24, 1959, he marriage Faye (Aery) Pharis, who survives him. He is also survived by his brothers, Everett, Bill, Herbert, and Ed, all of Berryville; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Russell, Kenneth and Vernon; and two sisters, Jewell and Clara Mae.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Billy McCall and the Rev. Wayne McCollough officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Albert "Archie" Ptasznik
Albert "Archie" Ptasznik, 58, of Eureka Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Berryville.
He was born Aug. 21, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo., son of Joseph and Flora Rose (Schauer) Ptasznik.
Mr. Ptasznik was a veteran, having served his country with the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He was a mechanic for McDonald Mobil in St. Louis for several years. He was an employee for Sam's Club #8125 in Ferguson, Mo., for 10 years, and was most recently employed by the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Berryville. He was a life member of Am Vets Post 88 and Alton Eagles Aries #254 in Alton, Ill.
On March 31, 1973, he marriage Leonarda (Certa) Ptasznik, who survives him, of the home. He is also survived by his son, Albert S. Ptasznik of the home. He was a brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Eureka Springs, with the Rev. Thomas Arackal officiating, and interment to follow in the VA National Cemetery in Fayetteville, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Margaret Elizabeth Johnson
Margaret Elizabeth Johnson Cox, 84, of Eureka Springs, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Eureka Springs.
She was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Lawrenceville, Ill., daughter of John Riley and Ruth Mae Potts Johnson.
Mrs. Cox was a writer, teacher, scholar, mentor, manager, and devoted wife and mother. She was the Editor-in-Chief of the Tyro Newspaper. She received a degree in journalism from San Bernardino Valley Junior College in 1938.
During the war, she received her pilot's license. She retired from Paine Webber in 1973, where she received her stockbroker's license.
On Nov. 23, 1945, she marriage Johnnie L. Cox, who survives her. They had been marriage 57 years. She is also survived by her three children, Lana Sanders of Grand Terrace, Calif., Chris Cox and wife Jill Jarvis of Kansas City, Mo., and Joan Cox and husband Gary Hurst of Newport Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Grassy Knob Community Center, with Jill Jarvis officiating.
John W. Clay
John W. Clay, 93, of Golden, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Berry County Care Center, Cassville, Mo.
He was born July 11, 1909, in Golden, Mo., son of Walter and Emily Haggard Clay.
On May 18, 1950, in Arkansas City, Kan., he marriage Ruby Whitford, who survives him. He is also survived by a son, Jim Moon of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and a daughter.
Mr. Clay was a farmer and a carpenter. He resided in California for a while. He spent a portion of his life in Kansas City, where he met his wife, Ruby. For the last 43 years, he made his home at Golden.
He was a founder and charter member of Light House Pentecostal Church, Eagle Rock, Mo., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 28, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. Jim Clay and Bro. Jody Ray will conduct the services. Burial will be in Roach Cemetery, Eagle Rock.
