Blanche Maye (Swofford) Summers
Blanche Maye (Swofford) Summers, 85, of rural Berryville, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Berryville.
She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Berryville, the daughter of Clarence and Alta (Plumlee) Swofford. She accepted
Christ as her Saviour at an early age.
Mrs. Summers taught school in several rural schools in Carroll County, and she was a retired homemaker.
On Aug. 27, 1938, she marriage Tim Summers, who survives her. She is also survived by three sons, Vernone Summers of Berryville, Loren Summers of Hot Springs, and Tim Summers, Jr., of Bentonville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Ruby Keeland, Ruth Freeman, Vada Austin, and Evelene Loftin, all of Tulsa, Okla.; and a brother, Archie Swofford of Berryville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 25, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Interment followed in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Western Arkansas Chapter of Alzheimer's Research, Fort Smith Executive Center, 322 N. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.
Viola R. Davis
Viola R. Davis, 85, of Berryville, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in Berryville.
She was born June 23, 1917, in Eureka Springs, daughter of Amos and Beulah (Jones) Ratliff.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker. She attended the Pleasant Valley Church.
On Jan. 10, 1942, she marriage Roy Franklin Davis. He preceded her in death, as did her parents; three brothers, Johnny Dowell, Elbert Dowell, and Alford Dowell; three sisters, Effie B. Frazer, Mary Lou Bohannon, and Rose Lee Dowell.
She is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Usrey of Berryville; two grandchildren, Jay Carter Usrey and Jeffery Kent Usrey, both of Berryville; a great-grandchild, Jeffery Usrey; two sisters, Dorothy Birchfield of Eureka Springs, and Marie Birchfield of Oregon; and two brothers, Junior Evans of Berryville, and Delbert Ratliff of California.
Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 13, at the Rock Springs Cemetery, with the Rev. Dwayne Generaux officiating. Interment followed, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Luther Helms
Luther Helms, 68, of Green Forest, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Green Forest.
He was born March 11, 1934, in Yuba City, Calif., son of James Luther and Blanche Leota Helms.
Mr. Helms was a veteran, having served his country with the United States Army. He was a mechanic.
He is survived by two sisters, Virgilene Kathryn Hamilton of Yuba City, and Glenna Bohannon of Berryville; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Blanche Helms; two brothers, Jay B. Helms and Chauncey Curtis Helms; a sister, Edna Imagene Wheeler; two nephews, Lester Wayne Bohannon and Robert Kenneth Wheeler; a great-nephew, William Brandon McDaniel; and a great-niece, Amanda Jo Bohannon.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 17, at the First United Methodist Church in Green Forest, with the Rev. David Hanshaw officiating.
Olnia William Yingst
Olnia William Yingst, 86, of Buhl, Idaho, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Magic Valley Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho.
He was born Sept. 27, 1916, at Truth, Ark., son of Logan A. and Flora Yingst.
Mr. Yingst attended school in Kingston. At the age of 18, he started work for the Union Pacific Railroad and headed west. He returned to Arkansas and marriage his hometown sweetheart, Imogene Allred, on Oct. 9, 1937. They were marriage for 65 years. In 1941, they moved to the Buhl - Castleford area.
Mr. Yingst served in the U.S. Army during World War II, 1945-46. He returned to Buhl and worked at Shields for 14 years. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980 after 20 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Yingst of Buhl; three children, Nadine Yingst of Boise, Shirley Somerville and husband Dallas of St. Helens, Ore., and Max Yingst and wife Jan of Twin Falls; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Freeman Yingst of Buhl, and Clarence Yingst of Twin Falls; and a sister, Irene McRoberts of Buhl.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Church of the Nazarene in Buhl. Interment followed at the West End Cemetery, Buhl.
Memorial donations may be made to the Buhl Church of the Nazarene.
