Tollie D. Lackey
Tollie D. Lackey of Tumbling Shoals died August 11, 2000 at his home. He was the son of the late Loys Lackey and Bertha (Dill) Lackey. He was born March 14, 1933 at Ida. He was a retired route salesman for Yarnell Ice Cream in Searcy. He was a United States Army veteran serving in Korea, a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was baptist.
He is survived by four sons, Doug Lackey of Searcy, David Lackey of Heber Springs, Don Lackey of Rose Bud and Dennis Lackey of Heber Springs; one brother, Johnny Lackey of Tumbling Shoals; four sisters, Sherry Clayton and Marylin Clayton, both of Tumbling Shoals, Charlene Fiveash of Memphis, Tenn. and Carolyn Roland of Drasco. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at Chastain Chapel Church on August 14 with Rev. Ervin Clayton conducting the service. Interment followed in the Chastain Chapel Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were the Honor Guard of VFW Post 3543.
Lois Jean Buchanan
Lois Jean Buchanan of Safford, Ariz., died August 21, 2000 at Lordsburg, N.M. with her son, Ted, and his wife by her side after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.
Born in Shirley on August 15, 1918, she was 82. She was the daughter of the late Preston and Lottie (Gibson) Eoff.
She worked at the Children's Colony in Conway and retired from there. She quilted quilts and sold them to support her husband, Sam, and son, Ralph, who preceded her in death. She loved her garden and the last year she was well, canned 85 quarts of green beans and had her picture in the paper with a large sweet potato.
She is survived by one son, Ted Morgan of Safford, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Deborah Perry, Mike Morgan and Clay Morgan of Safford Ariz.; six great grandchildren, David Plantz, Marty Morgan, Kaylee Morgan and Kacey Perry of Safford, Ariz. and Ashley Perry and Janell; one great great grandchild, Kelsey Plantz of Safford, Ariz. and one niece, Helen Couch of Searcy. Lois had a dog named Buster that was almost as well known in Quitman as she was.
Funeral services were held August 26 at the Center Point Cemetery.
Floyd M. Carlson
Floyd M. Carlson of Quitman died December 4, 2000 at the Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy. Born in Westby, Mont. on February 5, 1920, he was 80. He was the son of the late Martin A. and Mary J. (Sampson) Carlson.
A resident of Quitman since 1986, he was a retired maintenance worker for Burlington Northern Rail Road. He was a member of the Full Gospel Church.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (Reeves) Carlson of Quitman; two stepsons, Howard W. Pitt and wife, Lillian, of West Memphis and Michael R. Pitt of Lexington, Ky.; one brother, Loren Carlson of Westby, Mont.; one sister, Frances Elm of Westby, Mont.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held December 8 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral Services will be held December 9 at 9 a.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Pastor Don Pettit and James Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery at Memphis, Tenn.
George Clifton Galloway
George Clifton Galloway of Prim died December 29, 2000 at Beverly Health Care in Heber Springs. Born in Brewer on December 6, 1911, he was 89. He was the son of the late C.C. and Uva (Tyler) Galloway.
A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, he was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Prim Full Gospel Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Onie Galloway, on December 23, 1998.
He is survived by five sons, Elden Lee Galloway of Mountain View, Grady George Galloway of Troy, Mo., Gary Galloway of Greers Ferry, Rick Galloway of Drasco and Presley Leon Galloway of Mountain View; one daughter, Cleta "Sue" Brooks of Heber Springs; three brothers, Vane Galloway of Valley Park, Mo. and Lois Galloway and Don Galloway of Prim; 26 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held December 31 in the Prim Full Gospel Church with Rev. Dennis Knapp officiating. Interment followed in the Everett Cemetery. Nephews served as pallbearers.
