Doyne Ward Norton
Doyne Ward Norton, a lifetime resident of Drasco and Cleburne County, died August 25, 2000 in Beverly Health Care at Heber Springs. The son of the late Jake Upton Norton and Mary Alta Ward Norton, he was born June 9, 1911 at Drasco. He was 89.
He had the distinction of being a member of the first graduating class of Concord High School. There were three members of this class. He was a farmer and member of the Drasco General Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel (McGrew) Norton; a son, Norman Ward Norton of Drasco; two daughters, Ava Partridge of Quitman and Linda Crawford of Greenbrier; his brother, J.U. Norton of Drasco; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were August 28 at the Drasco General Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Henderson and Rev. Jerry Millkin conducting the service. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Stinnett, Wayne Crawford, Chuck Stinnett, Darrell Norton, Jimmy Buckman and Rusty Dillard. Honorary pallbearers were Don Barker and Chris Norton.
Earl Dean Gilpin
Earl Dean Gilpin, a lifetime resident of Drasco, died December 30, 2000 in the White County Medical Center at Searcy. Born in Drasco on August 10, 1929, he was 71. He was the son of the late Criss Earl Gilpin and Hattie Mae (Endsley) Gilpin.
He was a Christian man who loved his family and friends, a United States Army Veteran and worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Wisdom) Gilpin; one son, Steve Holmes of Carthage, Texas; three daughters, Brenda Stair and husband, Wendell, of Searcy, Kathy Nelson of Drasco and Lynda Dean Dill and husband, Lonnie, of Concord; one brother, Hubert Gilpin of Drasco; one sister, Nellie Deckard of Ida; eight grandchildren, Scott Gilpin, Ray Dill, Daniel Dill, Eric Dill, Cody Nelson, Tera Nelson, Kevin Holmes and Ann Boganshultz and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Olmstead Funeral Chapel on January 2 with Rev. Bill Sutton and Wendell Stair conducting the service. Interment followed in the Antioch Cemetery.
Jeffery Eddy
Jeffery "Jeff" Thomas Eddy of Quitman died at home on November 17, 2001. Born in Baltimore, Md. on May 1, 1957, he was 44. He was the son of James Edwin and Kathleen Esther (Sentz) Eddy.
A former resident of Baltimore, Md., he lived in Quitman for one year. He was a welder and a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed cars and spending time working on them. He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his parents, James and Kathleen Eddy of Quitman; two sons, Jeffery Cerrone and Joseph Cerrone, both of Baltimore; two daughters, Patricia Eddy and Kimberly Eddy, both of Baltimore; two brothers, James Eddy Jr. of Arkadelphia and Mark Eddy of Arlington, Texas; one sister, Dolly Long of Heber Springs; aunts; uncles; nieces and nephews. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held November 20 in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Jackie Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens. Jammie Eddy, Bobby Ray Campbell, Johnny May, Rodney Jones, Kirby Jones and Mike Johnson served as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Foundation.
Retha Ezell
Retha Ezell of Drasco died December 18, 2001 at the White County Medical Center in Searcy. Born in Wolf Bayou on July 27, 1918, she was 83. She was the daughter of the late John and Josie (Sagers) Laster.
She was a mother, homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Clark Ezell on December 6, 1974 and one daughter, Gracie Draper.
She is survived by two sons, Earl Ezell and Marvin Ezell of Drasco; three daughters, Helen Ward of Drasco, Mary Sprinkle of Tumbling Shoals and Martha Coffman of Greers Ferry; 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held December 20 in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Dennis Ezell and Bro. Darrel Ezell officiating. Interment followed in the Sypes Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren and Don Baker.
