Esther Redmon Hooten
Esther Redmon Hooten of Heber Springs died at her home on December 17, 2001. Born March 23, 1919 at Stark, she was 82. A native of Cleburne County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Edna (Stark) Redmon.
She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church in Greers Ferry. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The memory of her many thoughtful acts of kindness will always remain to bless the ones she touched.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emery L. Hooten and one son, Larry G. Hooten.
She is survived by eight daughters, Myrna Prince of Deming, N.M., Virginia Jones and Nell Davis of Heber Springs, Nola Bailey of Rose Bud, Reba Davis of Silom Springs; Peggy Stone and Kathy Bittle of Greers Ferry and Debbie Dill of Drasco; two sons, Jerry Hooten of Tumbling Shoals and Terry Hooten of Greers Ferry; 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held December 20 in the Lone Star Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Berry officiating. Interment followed in Shiloh Cross Roads Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Ricky Jones, Randy Hooten, James Davis, Shawn Stone, Chris Hooten, Jason Bittle, Jeremy Dill and Pat Hooten. Honorary pallbearers were Jared Dill, Steven Stone, Kevin Jones, Dustin Hooten, Kirk Hooten, David Prince, Lynn Davis, Mike Hooten and Dylan Hooten.
Dewey Odell Strange
Dewey Odell Strange, 85, of Heber Springs, died August 5, 2000 at Baptist Medical Health Center in Little Rock.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rites.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lawson Strange of Heber Springs; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Pattie Strange of Mississippi; a stepson, James H. Lawson of Heber Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Peggy Strange of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Juanita Beavers of Smackover and Jeraldine Smeltzer of Texas.
Services were held August 8 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Mattox Cemetery.
Reatha Ivon Womack Martin
Reatha Ivon Womack Martin of Concord died December 30, 2000 in Batesville. Born March 27, 1917 in Centerville, she was 83. She was the daughter of the late Frank Franklin Womack and Oma J. Jordan Womack.
She was a beautician and also retired from Concord Public school where she served as a cook. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Concord, a former PTA President at the Concord Public School and a former Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church. She organized the first Teen Club of Concord, was a former director of M.Y.F. and a recipient of the Community Service Award of Concord.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Clete, Floyd, Buel, Dell and Jay Womack.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Cleston Martin of Concord; two sons, Sam Martin and Connie Martin of Greenbrier and Lannie Martin and Debby Martin of Batesville; one daughter, Gunelda Ann Martin Leathers and Bill Leathers of Lake Jackson, Texas; one brother, Harold Womack of Tyler, Texas and four grandchildren, Eric Martin and Brandon Martin of Greenbrier, Deana Martin of Batesville and Kathryn Leathers of Lake Jackson, Texas.
Funeral services will be held January 3 at First Baptist Church of Concord with Rev. Harmon Whitehurst and Rev. Jerry Milligan officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery. Pallbearers are Troy Lynn Jeffery, Charles Stuart, Dalda Womack, Gaylon Womack, Wendal Womack and Lavon Womack. Honorary pallbearers are V.O. Tharp, Sonny Cooper and Felton Spinks.
Kenneth L. Ward
Kenneth L. Ward of Drasco died at his home on February 13, 2001. Born at Wolf Bayou on June 19, 1922, he was 78. He was the son of the late Ewing and Ola Mae (Sutherland) Ward.
He worked in the upholstery business and was a lifetime resident of Cleburne County. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Drasco General Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elma (Grant) Ward on November 24, 1999.
He is survived by one daughter, Alice Greene and husband, James, of Little Rock; one sister, Verna Williams of Little Rock and one granddaughter, Aden Rose Greene. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held February 16 at 2 p.m. in the Drasco General Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.
