Hank Brewer
Henry “Hank” Brewer, 65, of Morrilton, died Saturday, June 2, 2001.
He was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Truman, a son of Ben Brewer and Lucille Cox Brewer. Mr. Brewer was retired from the United States Air Force and attended Mace-donia Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Gullett Brewer; one son, Alan Brewer of Ada Valley; two daughters, Sharon Canada of Amarillo, Texas, and Theresa Marshall of Morrilton; one sister, Virginia Smith of West Memphis; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday at Harris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Gullett and the Rev. Mark Ragsdale officiating. Burial was at Ada Valley Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Anthony Marshall, Timothy Marshall, Roger Weckworth, Bobby Young, Sonny Gullett, and John Canada.
Odell Halbrook
Odell Halbrook, 96, of Scotland died Sunday, June 3, 2001.
She was born Nov. 23, 1904, at Chimes. She was a member of Scotland United Methodist Church and the widow of William E. Halbrook.
Survivors include one stepson, Quincy Halbrook of California; one stepdaughter, Hilda Halbrook of Haines City, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Scotland United Methodist Church with A.O. Thompson officiating. Burial will be at the Foster Cemetery at Scotland under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Thompson, James Lowder, Mike Biggs, Clell Watts, Mike Thompson, and Gary Flory.
Monda Peters
Monda Maydean Chism Peters, 65, of Hot Springs died Saturday, June 2, 2001.
She was born June 4, 1935, in Houston, a daughter of Emmett R. Chism and Hollie Camp Chism. She attended Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Cossey of Montague, Calif., and Joel Cossey of Glendale; three daughters, Robbie Hamilton of Jessieville, Andrea Hunt of Hot Springs and Melody Cossey of Arcata, Calif.; four brothers, Van, Doug, Sherman, and Gary; three sisters, Brenda, Leta and Dana Sue; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harris Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Corder officiating. Burial was at May Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Jody Camp, J.D. Caldwell, Randy Cossey, Doyle Peoples, Scott Hamilton, and John Hood.
Wood Wells
Wood Olan Wells, 88, of Morrilton died Wednesday, May 23, 2001.
He was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Morrilton, a son of Henry Lankford and Ophelia Harris Wells. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church and the Silver Trowell Lodge of Morrilton. He retired from Crompton Mills and was a carpenter and a farmer. He boxed professionally in Chicago as “Tiger Joe.” Mr. Wells also played baseball for the black league in this area.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Emma Lee Ponds Wells; three sons, Carlton Wells of Santa Anna, Calif., Charlie Wells of Kansas City, Kan., and Anthony Wells of Denver; four daughters, Ollie Cole and Paulette Smith, both of Kansas City, Kan., Janette Jones of Center Ridge, and Ophelia Wells of Morrilton; 27 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 29, 1 pm, at St. Matthew No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church by Charlie Wells. Burial was at Odd Fellows Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were sons and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were members of Silver Trowell Lodge.
