Brenda McClendon
Mrs. Brenda Lee Holmes McClendon, 36, died Saturday, August 21.
She was a resident of Palestine and a member of the Old Fashion Baptist
Church. She was an employee of the First National Bank of Eastern
Arkansas. She also was a member of the Gamma Iota Chapter of the Beta
Sigma Phi Sorority.
She is survived by her husband, Charlie McClendon, Jr.; her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Sonny Holmes of Forrest City; one step son, Marty Carroll of
Palestine; and two sisters, LaNan Holmes Kennedy and Lou Holmes
Blaylock, both of Forrest City.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 24, at 10 a.m. at the First
Baptist Church in Forrest City. Burial followed at Bell Cemetery in
Palestine.
Arrangements were handled by Stevens Funeral Home.

Christian School in Forrest City.
Kayla McClendon
Kayle Rae McClendon, 8, died Saturday, August 21.
She was born March 26, 1991, in Forrest City and was the daughter of
Charlie McClendon Jr. and Brenda Holmes McClendon. She was a member of
the Old Fashion Baptist Church of Palestine and was a third grade
student at the Calvary Christian School in Forrest City.
She is survived by her father, Charlie McClendon, Jr. of Palestine; her
step-brother, Marty Carroll of Palestine; maternal grandparents, Sonny
and Murry Holmes; and paternal grandparents, Charlie and Ann McClendon.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 24, at 10 a.m., at the First
Baptist Church in Forrest City. Burial followed at Bell Cemetery in
Palestine.
Howard Baker, Sr.
Howard Baker, Sr., 66, died Saturday, August 14, in his home.
He was a resident of Rondo.
He is survived by his wife, Nurene Baker of Rondo; four sons, Howard
Baker, Jr. of Brinkley, Morrison Baker of Palestine, Leotis Baker of
Memphis, and Charlie Baker of Conway; four daughters, Paula Young of
Chicago, Laverne Baker of Marianna, Barbara Flenou of Memphis and Lisa
Walton of Columbia, S.C.; and one adopted brother, J.W. Andrew of
Memphis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 18, at Marianna Funeral
Home Chapel at 2:30 pm. with Rev. Sam Blount officiating. Burial
followed at Gill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Howard Baker, Jr., Morrison Baker, Leotis Baker and
Charlie Baker.

Roy Lewellen, Sr.
Roy C. Lewellen, Sr., 76, died Wednesday, November 24, at Crestpark in
Marianna.
He was a resident of Marianna and a member of United Christian
Missionary Baptist Church in Forrest City. He attended school in Dansby
and was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the
Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a successful farmer for many
years.
He is survived by Ms. Ethel Brewer Lewellen; two sons, Senator Roy C.
Lewellen, Jr. of Marianna and Rev. Anthony Lewellen of St. Louis,
Missouri; three daughters, Ernestene Lewellen Qualls of Chicago, Annette
Lewellen of Little Rock and Marvie Kay Lewellen of Marianna; two
step-children, William Ingram and Annette Ingram Smith of Fort Wayne,
Indiana; six sisters, Ruby Watkins, Mereva Fulcher and Garnett Crockett,
all of Los Angeles, Mable Hargraves of Forrest City, Violet Rispon of
Detroit, and Ann Lewis of Stone Mountain, Georgia; two brothers, Rev.
Herman Lewellen of Jonesboro and Representative John Lewellen of Little
Rock; and 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 1, at United Christian
Church in Forrest City at 12 noon with Rev. Anthony Lewellen
officiating. Burial followed at Dansby Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Lane, Andrew Hill, Roy C. Lewellen, Jr., James
Qualls, Jr, Ben Wynn and Arthur Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers were Herman Lewellen, John Lewellen, Matthew
Cronket, Rick Lewis, Horace Buford and Robert Breaer.

Jason Joyner
Jason Nathaniel Joyner, 23, died Wednesday, November 24.
He was a resident of Marianna and a member of the First Methodist Church
in Marianna. He had pursued four years of college. He also was a member
of Ducks Unlimited.
He is survived by his mother, Melanie Joyner Crawford; grandmother,
Shirley Joyner; grandfather, Wallace Joyner; aunt and uncle, Patsy and
Wally Pickens; one sister, Sasha Smith; one brother, Joshua Crawford; a
cousin, Danielle Pickens; and two uncles, Rodney Price and Wally Joyner.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 30, at Marianna Memorial
Park.
Pallbearers were Clint Webb, Barry Jones, Bo Wooten, Trey Gist, William
McClain and Jeremy Dilks.
Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Raney, Jerry Webb, Tom Gist, Robert
Wooten, Marshall Womble, Jimmy Sparks, Dale Tyner and Donnie McClendon.

designated for the Methodist Youth Camp at Bear Creek, 59 S. Poplar,
Marianna, AR.
Josephine Holland
Josephine D. Holland, 80, died Saturday, November 27, at St. Vincent
Infirmary in Little Rock.
She was a resident of Aubrey and a retired OEO Supervisor for Lee County
and a housewife. She also was a member of the First Christian Church in
Marianna.
She is survived by her husband, Dan Holland of Aubrey; one son John D.
Holland of Little Rock; one daughter, Nila Ray of Little Rock; one
sister, Shirley Pickett of Russellville; and one brother, Melvin Ditmats
of Sheldon, Missouri and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Ditmars and Robert
Clay Ditmars and her parents, John Clay and Lula Milligan Ditmars.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 29, at 2 p.m., at the First
Christian Church in Marianna. Burial followed at LaGrange Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Morgan Funeral Home in Forrest City.
Ellen Rose
Ellen H. Rose, 85, died Thursday, November 25, at Crestpark Nursing
Home.
She was a resident of Marianna and a homemaker. She also was a member of
the Church of God in Prophecy.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Bonner of Marianna, Margaret
Horton of West Memphis and Mary Ann Adams of Wildersville; two sons, Bob
Rose of West Memphis and David Rose of West Helena; one sister,
Christine Rose of West Helena; 14 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Rose.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 27, at 2 p.m., at
Roller-Citizens Chapel, with Rev. Ken Walls officiating. Burial followed
at LaGrange Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Rose, Donald Rose, Tim Bonner, Glenn Ross,
Dennis Rose and Butch Jones.

Alice Fowler
Alice Fowler, 70, died Thursday, November 25, in her home.
She was a resident of Marianna and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Charles "Sonny" Fowler, Sr. of Marianna;
one daughter, Betty K. Fowler of Marianna; one son, Charles D. Fowler,
Jr. of Marianna; two brothers, William N. King of Mt. View and Charles
C. King of Stuttgart; one sister, Juanita King Burns of Mt. View; and
three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlus and Georgia King; two
brothers, Robert and Carl King; and one sister, Anna Mae Devine.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 27, at Roller-Citizens
Chapel with Rev. Rodger Hooker officiating. Burial followed at Marianna
Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Larry Bryant, Rose Kettles, Homer Guest, Paul Fowler,
Billy Fowler and Jimmy Williams.
