Gladys Owens
Gladys Marie McKinney Owens, 84, of North Little Rock died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001.
She was born Nov. 11, 1916, near Batesville, the daughter of William “Ed” McKinney and Mary Horick McKinney Myers.
She was a graduate of the Baptist State Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in Morrilton as a school nurse and as a registered nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She was a nursing supervisor at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, where she retired after 21 years of service.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Park Hill Christian Church. She was a former member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Shepard’s Center. She was a volunteer for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Central Arkansas, Inc.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosemary Brenner of Harrisonburg, Va., and Julia Kathryn Dennis, of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Kenneth W. McKinney of Moran, Texas; one grandson, two step-granddaughters, three great-grandsons, and one great-step-granddaughter.
Funeral services were Monday, 1 p.m., at the Park Hill Christian Church with the Rev. Miles Cook and Dr. James Farmer officiating. Interment followed at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
Pallbearers included members of the men’s Sunday School class of Park Hill Christian Church, Richard Steed and Dwight Steed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Park Hill Christian Church in North Little Rock or to your favorite charity.
Addie Young
Addie Young, 90, of Plainview died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001.
A daughter of the late James Tillie and Emma French Morrow, she was born Nov. 23, 1910, in Cross County. She was the widow of Hugh Young and a member of the Church of Christ in Aplin.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Young of Plainview and Stanley Lee Young of Columbia, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday at Aplin Church of Christ with Bob Fallen officiating. Burial was in Nimrod Cemetery at Nimrod by Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.
William Cook
William Wayne Cook, 82, of Morrilton died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001.
He was born on April 16, 1918, in Conway County, a son of Birdie L. and Ellen Brewer Cook. Mr. Cook was the widower of Georgia Jean Taylor Cook, a retired meat cutter and a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Rose City, North Little Rock.
Survivors include two sisters, Sybil Gilmore of Plumerville and Mary Taylor of Augusta.
Funeral services were Thursday at Rhodes and Son Chapel in Augusta, with Elder Bill Hall Sr. officiating. Burial was at Augusta Memorial Park by Rhodes and Son Funeral Home.
Margaret Long
Margaret Suzane Long, 68, of Little Rock died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001.
A member of the Church of Christ, Mrs. Long was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred C. Long Jr.; three sons, Keith Burris of Morrilton, and Floyd Burris and Lloyd Burris, both of Conway; two daughters, Karen Dunn of Russellville and Mary Jane Riddling; a sister, Mary Pratt of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Elmo and Eugene Pratt, both of Tulsa; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) in the chapel of Griffin, Leggett, Healey and Roth, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock. The Rev. Wayne E. Pratt will officiate, with burial following in Pinecrest Mausoleum.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University, Little Rock, Ark. 72207.
