Lydia Nelson-Fitzhugh
Lydia J.C. Nelson-Fitzhugh, 86, of Conway, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001.
She was born on Wye Mountain, a daughter of Charles J.G. Nelson and Agnes Lindevall Nelson on Oct. 3, 1915. She was instrumental in obtaining a voting poll on Wye Mountain where she served as the Chief Judge for 16 years. She was a lifetime member of the Wye Mountain Community Club and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a past Grand Matron and Instructress in the Illinois Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was the widow of William A. Fitzhugh.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Weaver of Vilonia and Agnes Baker of Conway; one son, William A. Fitzhugh of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were Saturday at 1 p.m. at Roller McNutt Chapel, Conway, 327-7727, with burial in Wye Mountain Cemetery.
Cleo Hartman
Cleo Hartman, 72, of Hattieville, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001.
He was born Sept. 2, 1929, in the St. Vincent community near Hattieville, a son of William and Theresa Gangluff Hartman. Mr. Hartman was an Army Korean War veteran and retired from Crompton Mills. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Society, and V.F.W. Post #10027.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Hofherr Hartman; three sons, Ronald, James, and Robert Hartman, all of Hattieville; one daughter, Deborah Dufford of Rogers; one sister, Willette Gunderman of St. Vincent; foster brothers, Herman, Edmund, Joseph, and Johnny Gangluff; foster sisters, Delores Gunderman, Marilyn Gunther, Carolyn Gadberry, and Theresa Hamling; and five grandchildren.
Rosary was 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Arthur Chiasson officiating. Burial was at St. Mary Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Randall Hartman, Chris Dufford, Joe Noll, Gary Gunderman, Chris Gunderman, and Stephen Baughman.
Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Adult Daycare.
Beatrice Williams
Beatrice Elizabeth Jones Williams, 92, of Hill Creek, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001.
She was born July 18, 1909, in Birdtown, a daughter of Homer Jones and Beulah Chamber Jones. She was the widow of Roy L. Williams, and a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Dean Williams of Birdtown and Royce Williams of Solgohachia; one daughter, Evelyn Trafford of Hill Creek; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Mullins and Bro. Carl Williams officiating. Burial was at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Scott Williams, Bob Deavers, Clay Williams, Dennis Garrett, John Trafford and Gary Trafford. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandsons.
Ponnie Flewellen
Ponnie Louise Flewellen, 70, of Casa died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.
She was born Jan. 6, 1931, in the Cherry Hill community, a daughter of Henry Irvin Brown and Mary Emerson Brown. She was the widow of David E. Bewley and Luther Melvin Flewellen. Mrs. Flewellen was a nurse’s aide at St. Mary’s Hospital and member of Ola Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David E. Bewley of Russellville, Randy Bewley of Casa and James F. Bewley of Little Rock; three brothers, James Brown of Perryville, Joe Brown of Russellville and Charles Brown of Hollis; four sisters, Bernice Shumate of Morrilton, Dorothy Tillery of Clovis, N.M., Betty Parham and Dora Johnson, both of Russellville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday at the Ola Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Denver Robinson and Bro. Geno Johnston officiating. Burial was at Cherry Hill Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Danny Price, Russell Price, Kenneth Ivey, Marvin Mashburn, John David Keeling, and Lawrence Hearing.
