Orpha Martin

Orpha Luetta "Jean" Martin, 81, of Dardanelle, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003.
She was born Sept. 1, 1921 at Russellville to the late William Richard and Etta Mae Spencer Miller. She was retired owner/operator of the Dairy Queen in Clarksville, the Dairy Freeze in Dardanelle, and the Courthouse Cafe in Russellville; she was a real-estate agent; and a member of the Faith Church in Dardanelle. She was also preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3 at the Shinn Chapel with Rev. David Jay and Rev. Leroy Farnam officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemtery at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Martin of Dardanelle; two sons, Emmitt Bowen of Clinton and Gary Tuck of Scranton; step-son, Jim Martin of Utah; two daughters, Marsha Tuck of Russellville and Donna Reynolds of Russellville; one sister, Lillian Stracener of Paris; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Steve Gooden, Chris Bowen, Quentin Bowen, John Pigeon, Ben Tuck, and Donnie Reynolds.
Honorary pallbeaers were Timothy Bowen, Jimmy Puritt, Brian Baird, Michael Reynolds, and Matt Moore.

Christopher Bennett

Henry Christopher Bennett, 23, of Roseville, died Sunday, March 2, 2003.
He was a recent graduate of Arkansas Tech in Russellville with a bachelor's degree in history and political science. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Paris. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, J. C. and Gerry Barber and paternal grandfather, Henry Bennett.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4 at First Baptist Church in Paris with burial in Carpenter cemetery in Roseville under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his father, Gaylon Bennett of Ozark; mother, Ann Marie Barber of Paris; one sister, Clesha Reading of Ozark; one brother, Derek B. Cisne of Little Rock; paternal grandmother, Mel Bennett of Roseville.

Rufus Binz

Rufus A. Binz, 88, of Charleston, died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a retired carpenter with the John McConnell Construction Co. and served with the US Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angeline Marie Binz. He was born in Ratcliff on July 22, 1914 to Frank and Johanna Komp Binz.
Rosary service was Sunday March 2 at 7 p.m. at Smith Mortuary Chapel.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Charleston officiated by Father Peter Sharum, O.S.B. with burial at Sacred Heart cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by two daughters, Vera Lee Binz and Rufina Binz both of Charleston; one son, Dennis Binz of Fort Smith; three sisters, Lucille Smith and Lorene Mantooth both of Charleston, and Laverne Farrington of Champaign, Ill.; one brother, Lineus Binz of Beaumont, Tex.; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy, Gary, Kenneth, Jared and Johnny Smith, and Reed Haynes.

Tony Savage

Tony Austin Savage, of Moberly, Mo. was born on Feb. 11, 2003 and died on Feb, 11, 2003. His parents Eric and Frances Savage were formerly from Arkansas.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 in Oakland cemetery in Moberly, Mo. Father Mike Coleman officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Moberly, Mo.
He is survived by his parents, Eric and Frances Savage, of Moberly, Mo.; two sisters, Veronica and Alyssa Savage; one brother, Alexander Savage all of the home; grandparents, Richard and Cecilia Savage of Unionville, Mo., Brenda and Gary Berry and Chester Scrivner all of Paris, Calvin Johnson of Ozark; great-grandparents, Dorothy Savage of Branch, H. W. Sanders and Opal Scrivner of Paris.

Gertrude Eckart

Gertrude Reith C. Eckart, 77, of Subiaco, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003.
She was a homemaker, and member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco. She was preceded in death by parents, Robert and Louise (Spanke) Reith; husband, Vincent Eckart; sister, Rose Bontemps; brother, Bill Reith.
Rosary was at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco.
Mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at St. Benedict Catholic Church with burial in St. Benedict cemetery in Subiaco, under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by four daughters, Katy Brake, of Greenwood, Benita Stevens, of Greenwood, Anna Schwartz, of Fort Smith, and Rose Tygart, of Subiaco; one son, Martin Eckart, of Subiaco; three sisters, Louise Wewers of Fort Smith, Mary Maestri, of Fort Smith, and Ann Farr, of New Orleans, La.; two brothers, Bob Reith, and Tony Reith of Fort Smith; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbeaers were Raymond Eckart, Frank Eckart, Greg Eckart, Eddie Maestri, Randy Reith, and Sam Reith.

Robert Mantooth

Robert J. "Bob" Mantooth, 94, of Paris, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003.
He was a retired rancher, a member of the Paris Rotary Club for 50 plus years, a 32nd Degree Mason of Lodge 378, Elder at First Christian Church in Paris and taught Business at Paris High School one year.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Roller Funeral Home Chapel of Paris with burial in Oakwood cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hazel Mantooth of the home; one daugher, Frances Merrick of Kellogg, Idaho; one son, Robert Mantooth, Jr. of Perryton, Tex.; one sister, Sally Duff, of Fort Worth, Tex.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Ava Belle Villyard

Ava Belle (Brewer) Villyard, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003.
She was born Nov. 25, 1935 in Paris. She attended school in Paris and also attended the First Baptist Church in Paris. She obtained a BS degree in Music at Arkansas Tech. She taught music in her home and worked at Denver University, she was an executive secretary to the Registar and worked as an office manager. She was active in the church as a choir director, teacher and vocalist.
Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at First Baptist Church in Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth W. Villyard; one son, Steven W. Villyard; one daughter, Kenta Joy Villyard; two sisters, Lois Needham of Paris, and Dorene Carter of Eudora, Ka.; and five grandchildren.

Sherman Cline

Sherman A. Cline, 85, of Paris, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by parents Austin Charles and C. Hazel Broach Cline.
Graveside service and burial of cremains were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.

James Harger

James L. Harger, 80, of Paris, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003.
He was a retired factory worker in a fruit processing plant and attended Assembly of God Church. He was a veteran of World War II in the US Army and was preceded in death by parents, James R. and Glovie Ellen (Sims) Harger and one brother, Alvie Harger.
Graveside service and burial was at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 in the National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by one sister, Carolyn Morris of Stephens.

Roscoe Lipe, Jr.

Ret SSGT Roscoe C. Lipe, Jr., 74, of Columbus, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003.
He was born July 13,1928 in Paris, the son of the late Jewell Lipe and Roscoe C. Lipe, Sr. He was a machinist with Loomis and T.R.W. and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Phenix City, Ala. He retired as a SSGT in the U.S. Army where he served one tour in World War II, three tours in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Medal of Honor, the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and was a candidate for the Silver Star.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, with Rev. Barry Danner officiating. Burial followed in Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery, in Benning, Ga., under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Phenix City, Ala.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Wilson Lipe of Columbus; three daughters, Michelle Wetherington of Columbus, Phyllis Fowler of Columbus and Debbie Hartwick Magee, Miss.; three sons, Rev. Troy Moses of Crenshaw, Miss., Donnald Welch of Omaha, Neb., and Michael Lipe, of Peyton, Colo.; a sister, Billie Jo of California; 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in care of Joyce Lipe, 5713 Sanford Avenue, Columbus, GA 31909.
