Virginia Sue Whitman, 63, of Paris died Thursday, May 2, 2002.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyal Ray Whitman, her parents, George and Oma (McElhaney) Schouweiler, and sister, Gladys Hatwig.
She is survived by two sisters, Debbie Phillips and Pat Sampley, both of Paris.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, May 6 at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial in Caulksville cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
Pallbearers were Gary Lynn Phillips, Robert Grimes, Bobby Floren, Danny and Jason Roper, and Gregg Baggett.
Honorary pallbearers were Gary Lee Phillips, Clinton Canada, Gary Wagner and Philips Baggett.
James Lovell
James B. Lovell, 100, of Paris, died Monday, April 15, 2002.
He was a retired coal miner and member of the United Mine Workers Association and a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe S. and Adda (Bagwell) Lovell; wives, Bulah L. (Smith) Lovell and Burlie B. (Henton) Lovell; two sons, James B. Lovell, Jr. and Robert L. Lovell; two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 18 at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial at Oakwood cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by one son, Dr. Richard Lovell of Russellville; one brother, Charlie Lovell, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jack Lee, Thomas Johnson, Rick Raimondi, Adam Johnson, Floyd McClure and Chris Tucker.
Richard Asbury
Richard Warren Asbury, 78, of Booneville, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002.
He was a retired truck driver, and a Marine in the Korean Conflict.
Graveside service was at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19 at Springhill cemetery near Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Remy of Booneville, and Karen Harris of Waldron; four sons, Ray Asbury of Magazine, Sandy, Carl, George Asbury all of Booneville; two sisters, Eudell Todd of Booneville, and Charlene Howard of Oklahoma; three brothers, Vernie Asbury of Oak Grove, Carl Asbury of Green Forrest, and Joe Asbury of Missula, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Carl Long, Kenneth Harris, Frank Parsons, Richard Todd, Edward Todd and Chuck Brown.
Jeanette Melton
Jeanette Melton, 61, of Taft, Calif. died Friday, March 15, 2002.
She was born in Paris on March 11, 1941. She and her husband, RL owned and operated Melton's Backhoe and Conductor Service. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God in Wofford Heights where she served as a deaconess. She was also a member of Women's Aglow. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.C. Bench and Laura (Dodson) Bench, sister, Ellen Dillingham, and brothers, Lee Bench and Jerald Bench.
She is survived by husband, RL Melton of Kernville; three sons, Randall Melton, Alan Melton and Darrel Melton all of Taft; four brothers, Don Bench, Ervin Bench, John Bench, and James Bench; sister, Sue Hester; sister-in-law, Lola Bench of Paris; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service was in New Hope Temple, in Taft, Calif. the Rev. Sam White, pastor of the Cuyama Assembly of God officiated and burial was at West Side District cemetery under the direction of Erickson and Brown Funeral Home.
Joseph Fischer
Joseph C. Fischer, 85, of Paris, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002.
He was a retired contract carpenter, a decorated veteran of World War II with battles and campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central-Europe and receiving decorations of four bronze stars and Good Conduct Medal and a veteran of Korean War. A charter member of National Catholic War Veterans. The first commander of the local Catholic War Veterans, Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris and member of the St. Joseph Men's Choir, Scout Master of Troop 39 during the late 1940's-50's and retired as Assistant Chief after 35 years of service with the Paris Fire Department. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles G. and Josephine (Zimmer) Fischer; three sisters, Catherine Floren, Cecilia Henson, and Marie Irman' two brothers, William and Gerard Fischer.
Rosary was at 7 p.m. Friday at Roller Chapel of Paris.
Mass was at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Paris with burial at St. Joseph cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
He is survived by his wife, Lucille (Konert) Fischer of Paris; two daughters, Betty Gray of Dover, and Linda Fogley of Springdale; one son, Joe Fischer of Paris; three sisters, Rosemary Cauthron of Paris, Josephine Fischer of Paris, and Regine Wahl of Ventura, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerome Forst, Jim Cauthron, Gary Konert, T. J. Cauthron, Billy Jo Meyers, and Johnny Spellins.
Leon Dunn
Leon Dunn, 61, of Charleston, died Friday, April 19, 2002.
He was born Oct. 11, 1940 in the Lone Star Community in Fort Chaffee to Paul and Mima Dunn. He was a dairy farmer, second generation Franklin County Farm Family of the year, member of the Archeology Society and a member of the Branch Church of Christ.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22 at Smith Mortuary Chapel officiated bty the Rev. Bill Van Meter. Burial was at Hampton cemetery north of Branch under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife Judy of the home; two daughters, Diana Fitzgerald of Charleston, and Julie Shelton of Lavaca; one son, Michael Dunn of Little Rock; mother, Mima Dunn of Charleston; one sister, Paula Dunn of Charleston; one brother, C. L. Dunn of Charleston; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Virgil Sharum, Danny Council, Haskell Casalman, Raymond Mainer, Bobby, Gary and Jim McCartney, and Jason Walter.

Lucille McCubbin, 95, of Fort Smith, died Saturday, April 20, 2002.
She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents William M. and Mona (Frazier) Blansett; husband, Willie M. McCubbin; son, Paul Blansett McCubbin.
Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22 at Roller Chapel in Paris with burial at Oakwood cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Tessie Bowman
Tessie Stinnett Bowman, 88, of Paris, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002.
She was a Baptist and attended Bethel Missionary Church in Paris. She was preceded in death by husbands, Sherman Bowman and Lafety Stinnett.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4 at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Paris with burial at Baxley cemetery in Paris under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by three daughers, Mary Miller and Mae Bush of Paris and Faye Hicks of Greenwood; three sons, Don and Bill Stinnett of Paris and Wayne Stinnett of Ratcliff; 29 grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael, Donnie, Larry, Kenneth, Daniel and Jeremy Stinnett, Jimmy Luttrell and Bobby Kuydendall with Freddie Stinnett serving as honorary pallbearer.
Bessie Stephens
Bessie Lee Stephens, 85, of Paris died Sunday, March 31, 2002.
She was a member of Paris Christian Center and was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Stephens.
The funeral service was on Wednesday, March 3 at the Murry Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Oakwood cemetery in Paris.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Lozano of Paris; one son, Virben Stephens of Paris; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

W. A. "Buster" Kirk, 84, of Magazine, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002.
He was a member of Reveille Primitive Baptist Church and a dairy farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Langley Kirk; parents, James and Jessie Berry Kirk and a sister Audrey Kirk.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at Reveille Primitive Baptist Church with burial at Ellington cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Jenkins of Magazine; one son, James Art Kirk of Magazine; and two grandchildren.
